I shopped there yesterday. Except for the organic, I found their produce prices .. and most prices in general..to be less than the old A&P. The nice fish monger is still there and there were plenty of cashiers.

I stopped in today, nice, clean, fresh produce, expensive but convenient and so much better than the PathMark that use to be in this spot. I found my check out girl professional and friendly a great addition to the hood.

Self checkout was necessary there because they didn't have actual cashiers. I'd much rather have a short or no line and someone actually ringing me up and bagging the groceries. Plus, now they have an express lane (or maybe even 2) so if you only have a few things you won't wait long.

I used to shop at A&P because it was less of a zoo than Shoprite. A&P was a smidge more expensive than Shoprite, but it was worth it to me to avoid the crowds. But then A&P's (and Pathmark's) prices went through the roof, so I begrudgingly went back to Shoprite.
I am so glad ACME took over. The prices have dropped considerably. I picked up some great london broil, and fresh shrimp and flounder that was so much better than what A&P ever offered. I'll be shopping at ACME from now on, especially since it feels like Shoprite has gotten even more crowded since the Pathmark on Grand closed.

A&P is notorious for ripping people off. It's a large reason they are out of business. Good to hear that prices are lowering to where they should be though.

Not only are their prices better, but I commend their management. They sent a mailer with a coupon for $10 off of a $100 order at checkout - actually two $10 offers for different time frames. The cashier scanned the wrong timeframe, and when I got home, I realized $10 was not taken off. I called the store and the manager, Frank, was super nice about coming back and getting a $10 credit on the spot. I went back and was credited $10, no questions asked. To me, I am sold on the place.

I was quite surprised about how much lower the prices were from the old A&P.

I had a really good burger there with a salad. Didn't have anything fried or cheesecake. It was great! It's good to support small business here in Jersey City! ( as I have been instructed to do so ).

I'm taking the under on Acme.
Totally annoying that there is no self checkout. The fluorescent lights they put in make it feel like a third tier Wal Mart.

Agreed on all points. I had lamb chops the other night from ACME that were amazing - better than Whole Foods and a heck of a lot cheaper. I've been pretty pleased with what I've found so far. Their MyMix program lets you get your receipts online, too, which is helpful.

Absolutely. A bunch of spoiled meat around too - but you could usually spot/smell that. The amazing thing is that it was all expensive too.

They are MUCH better than A&P was - in terms of both selection and prices. I used to avoid A&P like the plague.

You can find the good cat food online cheaper as well. I think it is Petco or Petland that has the high end Purina on sale a few times per year.

Between going to Costco, Amazon, 555, the local butcher, and buying veggies from a store on Central Ave., I barely go to the supermarket these day.
I think the biggest expense from the supermarket is cat food.

Screwballs renovated the A&P in Newport and now it is a hell hole. They removed all of the beautiful lighting in the produce section and replaced it with fluorescent.
Most of the premium food is gone including bread, natural foods, etc. Shop Rite and Morton Williams are much better. ACME = DISASTER

Be careful with Acme. Several items marked on sale on shelves did not ring up with the sale prices at the register. Third trip in a row I've had this issue. Staff acknowledged it's a known issue, but was not encouraging about resolution.

I was surprised at their bakery - not too bad for store-bought items. And some of their prices are a lot less than A&P used to be. Current promo is free turkey with $100 single purchase transaction.
I just got the MyMix app for more coupon savings: www.ACMEmarkets.com/mobileapps

The ACME in Hoboken doesn't sell liquor like the A and P did. Lots of people confused and pissed on Sunday looking to buy beer before the football games. First World Problems, lol.
I went to the one by the best buy and it was ok. Not great, not bad. Just a typical grocery store. I like Shop Rite over A and P. Will keep giving them a chance over the next year or so. The prices seemed higher in some places, but lower in others. And the vegetarian inventory in the frozen section was a little better then A and P. But thats about the only highlight. It was fine.

How long did Key Foods take for their transition from C-Town? It took a while but now they're absolute class. You can't overhaul a store overnight. I stopped into ACME (forgot it wasn't A&P until I get to checkout) last night and they gave me a free turkey. So that was nice. Big turkey too.

I cant get over the ridiculousness of thinking that because the sign on a building changed over night the internal workings of a currently function store would as well.
Call me shocked that ACME hasnt had the opportunity to overhaul/update/influence the way these store operate yet... while it might be nice to change management, update supply chain, rearrange floor plan like a sign on the exterior of a building... it rarely happens as fast Give the transition another 3-4 months or just keep complaining that the new sign out front hast provided the produce you want.
