Maybe the glare off the giant shiny Chinese letters distracted you from reading the new "Thai-Chinese" awning Quote:

I just noticed the new signage above Sawadee last night. I know that the guy that manages BOX also does Sawadee, so apparently he's on some sort of rebranding kick. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those appear to be giant Chinese characters - above a Thai restaurant. Now, I understand that if this was Chinatown, this might make some form of sense, but really? Would it not have been more effective to use Thai characters to promote their sub-par "thai cuisine"?

I think the new exterior that was painted by the owner's granddaughter maybe somewhat of a deterrent.

I agree, definitely always a joy at the Box. The staff is very kind and warm and very courteous. The happy hour is lovely with $4 martinis and $2 beers. It's also a lot closer to me than MORE and the sushi is nearly as good. I've seen it somewhat full, but not often.

Finally got around to visiting Box a few weeks ago. The wife and I visited them on a weekend, shortly after opening time. We weren't expecting much (not sure why) and we both came away very happy and impressed. The food was definitely very well made. We ordered enough for three or four people (bad habit of ours) including their pad kee mow noodles (ordered them with vegetarian duck and extra spicy, and they were excellent!), two sushi rolls (can't remember which, but they were both fresh and really good) a bento box lunch (crispy shredded beef, also excellent) and some other entree. Entirely too much, but it gave us a glimpse of their various offerings. All in all, an excellent meal and we were both very happy. They are no longer a BYOB establishment (they have a full bar) but they allow you to bring and consume your own alcohol for a nominal fee (5 dollars per bottle, if i recall correctly.)
So, we will be back. Service was good, decoration was really nice (and cute) and the presentation of dishes was timed perfectly. We never felt rushed and were allowed to linger. The only complaint, or ding, is that the place was deserted! We were the only ones there for the 90 minutes we spent inside. A girl walked in as we were finishing our meal, but she was only there to pick up an order. I hope they are bringing in enough customers to stay in business, because the place is definitely good and I would like for them to make it over the long run.

Sadly, they got rid of some of the more authentically Japanese items from the menu they had when they first opened. No more unagi don (eel over rice) or sauteed squid app. Why they would want to become yet another generic Asian joint I have no idea. Maybe no one but me was ordering the eel? I thought that was what set them apart but I guess they don't want to be set apart. Sad face!
Anyway, I don't have high hopes for it, but anyone try their sushi yet?

Tommy - no it's not, they have a wide variety of Asian dishes, Thai, Chinese, Sushi, Malaysian, but I think everyone likes the Korean barbecue

Went last night with the husband and kids and we all enjoyed our meal. We had edamame, korean bbq, miso soup, chicken teriaki, chicken w/cashew and dessert. Service was good and the food was plentiful and fresh. We brought a bottle of wine and it was attended to immediately.

finally had the chance to have lunch - we ordered the Korean barbecued beef and Honey Duck. Good decent food, came with an appetizer and choice of soup or salad(which was fresh and plentiful). The servings were large and tasty, cooked properly with the right amount of seasoning.
Will have to try the other items to give a full impression. Decor was excellent, ambiance was correct. We were the one group out of two in an early lunch on a Tuesday, but service was attentive. One issue is the tables on the booths - they kinda leaned when you put weight on them and if you're cutting something on your plate, the whole table would shake.

Mock duck is made from "yuba", aka "tofu skin", which is made from boiling soy milk. A thin film forms on top of the boiled soy milk, which are collected together and rolled up into a sheet. Doesn't sound that appealing, but it's pretty tasty.

Mock duck/seitan is not the same as tofu. (It's a lot tastier, in my opinion!) Seitan is made from wheat gluten, while tofu is soy protein.

Vegetarian duck = mock duck = tofu shaped / prepared in the form / shape / style of duck.
Mock duck, or vegetarian duck, is really good. More has it in their menu. I have seen it in many Asian or Asian fusion restaurants in NYC, as well. The tofu is prepared in such a way as to make it look like duck. It is very similar looking. Of course, the texture is not right (hard to make tofu come across as meat!) but not a bad replacement in some dishes.

Ate here last night - thought it was decent. I had the Curry Noodles with Tofu. The broth was tasty, but the noodles were a bit overcooked, and it could have used more vegetables than just 2 chunks of potato and 2 pieces of bok choy. Still, I enjoyed the meal. My wife had the bento box with the vegetarian duck w/basil, which was also good.
We both enjoyed it and definitely plan on returning.

The one time I went here, I didn't have a good experience. The food itself was actually quite tasty (despite that the portions were small). However, the service just ruined it for me. The waitress could barely speak English, which wasn't a deal breaker for me. It was the fact that she ignored me and my friend for most of our meal. No refills on hot water for my tea, and not even a, "how's your meal so far?" She just talked with another employee at the bar for the duration of our meal. I also had to wave our waitress over from the bar to get our check after waiting for nearly 15 minutes after our table was cleared. I forgot to mention that we were the only two customers there at the time. I'm always willing to give a place a few chances. Three times though, and that's it. I will say that I definitely had more satisfying meals and service at Sawadee and More.

I did takeout about 5 times already there. I find the food is pretty good. While waiting for the food to be cooked, the staff would usually offer me some water and seemed courteous. The first time I asked them if they could include some forks to go, they started to do it everytime afterwards. Showed that they were learning! I like the fact they are opened late too.
I've have done the drunken noodles and the spicy fried rice.

My girlfriend and I finally had a chance to try this place out last night. Overall we were unimpressed. The interior looked great (minus the laser show and the disco buddha fountain. Our meal was just OK. Started with the chicken wings which were cooked perfectly and served hot. I ordered the Katsu Curry w/ chicken and she ordered a udon soup. The side salad on my curry must have been out of a bag and the curry seemed like it was out of a box (go figure). Chicken was good but a bit dry. Plate came out just above room temp while the her soup was piping hot. Soup was acceptable. The deal breaker was definitely the service. We were one of two couples there. My girlfriend didn't get her water until the main course came out and I had to wait about 20 minutes for our check. It might have never came if I didn't interrupt the conversation that the staff were having at the end of the bar by signaling them. I don't think I've ever had to ask for a check twice in an empty restaurant. I'm glad that many people have posted that they have had a great experience, but unfortunately for us we probably won't go back. We'll stick to MORE since they've always treated us very well with exceptional food and service.
