Ok. I have had it a few times again and I am now a total convert; seaweed and all. I have only tried the Indian and Miso beef and love them both. I also honed my opening skills so the whole process is more enjoyable. Definitely a good go to spot for a quick and cheap ( and tasty) meal.

I tried the Indian and the miso beef yesterday for the first time.
The Indian was actually the better of the two in my opinion though I enjoyed both. My problem is with the seaweed. Never been a huge fan of it and these in particular(I assume rice balls in general) do have a pungent smell. The consistency of the seaweed didn't fit well with the rice/filling. I will definitely go back but will need to warm up to the seaweed.

The place itself is nice and cozy. Staff looks friendly. Hoping them all the best with their endeavour

I think congestion pricing is a better way to go and would shift ridership to times when trains are not as crowded....

Don't think that is going to accomplish much. I imagine most people who take the train during the busy period have little choice on the start/end times for their jobs. At the end of the day the continuing influx of new residents suggests we need additional capacity (more cars, more lines, increased frequency) or alternate modes of transport.

Still haven't had the opportunity to sit in and have a meal. Had the fusilli al Pesto last Friday. Tasted really good and serving size was better than my last take out (fettuccine).

Newark is definitely not dismal. Things are not perfect but slowly we are getting some variety of good options. I like the fact that I can get a decent selection of food now and the green groceries are a god send.

I did some pick up last night (the Fettuccine). It tasted pretty good though I am no expert when it comes to Italian food. The serving was a bit smaller than I expected/wanted (needed to carb load for Tough Mudder today!).

The interior seems like a nice spot to sit back with some friends over a meal. The staff was a pleasant. Definitely will be going back again.

This solves the question of where should I watch it when it comes out. Will definitely check it out! Thx

I passed in around midnight one day last week after a few drinks in the neighbourhood. People were friendly indeed and one of the guys insisted we try the filet mignon pita sandwich (it was not on the menu yet so you will need to ask them for it). He threw it on the fire and while we waited we were given samples of a lentil soup. That by itself was great. Then when the pita was ready I was seriously relishing it. The ingredients seemed really fresh (not sure how that could be at midnight) and the spiciness was just right after a couple drinks.

The price was great for the amount of food and the taste. They apparently are opened to midnight on weekdays and open til 3 am on Friday/Saturday.

I tried them today again just to see if it was a fluke (sans the drinks) and thankfully I was satisfied.

Great addition to the area. Hope they have better luck staying profitable.

I did takeout about 5 times already there. I find the food is pretty good. While waiting for the food to be cooked, the staff would usually offer me some water and seemed courteous. The first time I asked them if they could include some forks to go, they started to do it everytime afterwards. Showed that they were learning! I like the fact they are opened late too.

I've have done the drunken noodles and the spicy fried rice.

Thanks for the information Jeff. While I agree that we should wait until the work is completed, the work done so far seems a bit off. IMHO, the method used to lay the pavement has very little aesthetic appeal. I work in downtown Manhattan and Maiden Lane pavements are being rebuilt with what looks like similar material and it looks a lot better.

Anyhow, I will wait for the finished product on Newark. Your description does give me hope that it will be more to my liking then.

My work can be hectic at times with occasional late hours and I tend to cook only on weekends. As a result Saigon Cafe has been my second kitchen. Everything I've had has been wonderful and the owners are very personable. I agree they are somewhat expensive compared to other Vietnamese joints but I am willing to pay the little extra for the relaxed nature and the confidence in the food.

The Rendang Beef and Ban Hoi Thit Neoung (I am sure I got that wrong) are incredibly good. The beer is pretty good (I love Tiger beer and it tends to be difficult to source in liquor stores). The Vietnamese ice coffee hits the spot but be careful when you drink this as you can end up not sleeping for the entire night!

Occasionally i would order a meal while catching the train at WTC on my way back home and they know my voice and in most cases can guess what I want to pick up!
