Yeah, let it go. Now, if she left JC for Hoboken, I'd feel insulted. That place is the WORST. Nothing better than a homogeneous town reminiscent of a frat party. Viva la fist pumpers!

If we are correcting spelling and grammar, I would add that you should have said "P.S. It's spelled Taqueria".

I will miss:

Razza (simply amazing)

That is all.

If I wanted to cause a ruckus on this site this would be the kind of thing I would post.

How exciting! That's an upgrade. Your standards of living have fully evolved. I too miss takaria, cause I hate sour cream.

Ahhh NYC such a great place when i grew up there. Playland on times Sq , show world that got my curiosity going when my mother held my hand as we walked by and fire hydrants open in the summer on every block. What a sense of community during those days. Went back home in the late 90's and came back to JC the magic was gone there , People dont move to NYC for the rents they go because it's a status symbol unlike during the early days moving to NYC was a haven for artist and musicians paying cheap rents trying to make it not fake it. Best of luck to the poster.

As a born-and-raised Manhattanite I find it interesting that there is such a strong pull for adults to live in Manhattan. Although I grew up there, there is really no identity to "the city" and the cost of living has just gotten ludicrous. For tourists/transplants, though, I get the allure to try living there for a little bit.

Ah, Dora. I'm not quite sure what your expectations were, but sorry that Jersey City didn't meet them.

Hopefully you will find what you are looking for in Manhattan. In an area like New York every neighborhood has pluses and minuses (unless you're fabulously wealthy). If Manhattan works out better for you, so much the better.

But the derision dripping from every word of your email does a disservice to Jersey City, as "unfortunate" as it might be to you.

I also moved away from Jersey City, although in my case it was because both my partner and I ended up with jobs too far out in Central Jersey to make the commute work. But if we were working in Manhattan again, I'd probably end back up on JC again. We spend five great years living downtown and I'd be happy to spend another five. (And even having been gone a year, I still check this site now and then.)

So goodbye Dora. Don't let the PATH door hit your ass on your way out.

When I talk about Jersey City vs "The City" the main difference to me is always the difference in attitudes of the people who live there.

Nobody likes brushing elbows with snobs. Bye!

Dora:

Hope you enjoy:

1. The high cost of housing
2. Your microscopic living space
3. The incessant noise
4. Not knowing a single person on your block
5. Not knowing a single elected representative
6. Living in what has essentially become a playground for investment bankers and the international super-rich (as opposed to the artists and immigrants that once made Manhattan a wellspring of creativity).

Having said that, the entertainment options beat JC hands down. But how much will you really use them? If you're like most people, not that much.

Au revoir!

A big gripe of mine is when people move here and then complain that JC pales in comparison to NYC. Well, of course it does, it's not NYC! You shouldn't move somewhere on the assumption that its going to be like another place. We moved to JC after living in manhattan and Brooklyn because we wanted to live close, but wanted a more "suburban" existence. We wanted a car and a bigger place and a more "community" feel so we moved. I was under no illusion that JC was going to just be like NYC. And that's fine, because it was what we wanted at the time.

I do have to admit, this posting was certainly one of the sillier ones I've seen on JC List. Not quite sure why "Dora" felt it necessary to wish us all a "goodbye". That being said, good luck Dora. Your post indicates you have yet to live in Manhattan. I lived in Manhattan for 11 years and am VERY glad to have moved on. You might one day find yourself back in Jersey City. However, I'm almost certain we won't be seeing any "I'm back!!" posts from you....

Finally? Sounds like that was the plan all along.

This is the problem with the internet age - everyone just has to share their most mundane feelings. You're going to miss Thirty Acres? Who gives a shit?

I'm a little perplexed by the timing. Three years is NOT a long time. I'm not sure what one person can expect to happen. Quality of life improves over long periods of time. Three years is barely long enough to have 3 bars open.

Regarless, I do wish them good luck.
