Re: Cleaning Service

Spotless Planet-XXXXXXXXXXXX. Terrible. Came to give estimate for cleaning my individual unit and my building. Completely underwhelmed. However, I chose to hire them to take care of building maintenance (a pretty high $$$ job). Never received a response. On top of that, they're supposed to be "green". WELL - I found out they clean the unit beneath mine, which smells like a BLEACH/CHEMICAL factory every Friday (when the come). So, aside from being a complete lie about being "green" cleaners - Spotless Planet is completely unprofessional. It's very sad that there are so few options for quality contractors/house cleaners/plumbers/electricians here is JC.....

Oh - just realized I should keep these things to myself. I'm going to need to be able to unload my house here in DTJC at some point - negative comments certainly won't help with unloading the property quickly : )

FULOP=HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Very sorry I voted for him (I can't say I wasn't warned). He was so vocal, present, and on-point before the election. He kind of disappeared after he won. Seems like a lot of us were fooled.

Also, I'm VERY disappointed the re-val's been done away with.

Additionally, everything around town is the same.

Counting down the days for when I get to leave for the greener pastures of Maplewood!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure, the taxes are high, but at least I'll be getting something in return : )

To which part of Brooklyn is DTJC most similar?

I am asked this question ALOT. Any input? I'm always at a loss for words when asked this question. I say this, mainly, because I feel like DTJC is just that, DTJC, a unique/special place not really comparable to any particular part of Brooklyn. Anyway, I'm curious to see what all you JCListers have to say. Plus, it would be easier to just have a quick, easy answer : )

I've said it many times (in a much gentler way), but, NOW, I'll say what I really think. Our police SUCK. I live near the station and all they do is block us in (residents unfortunate enough to live on the same street as the station) by double parking (bc they're too lazy to walk from the lot designated for them that's steps from the station) and stand out front cursing, laughing, etc..... I don't know about everyone else, but my taxes are KIND OF HIGH and it sucks that our police force SUCKS. Additionally, where's Fulop these days?!?!?!!??! All talk before the election - well, he's the mayor now - NOTHING'S CHANGED. GOOD JOB FULOP and GOOD JOB JCPD POLICE. I regret buying a house here and CAN'T WAIT to leave.

How does this happen 2 blocks from the police station?! I live on 7th - very close to the station (unfortunately) and god knows they're ALWAYS outside - standing around, telling crude jokes, cursing, loudly cackling (and constantly waking up my child). Guess if they weren't so busy wasting time they could actually do their jobs.

YES!! That corner needs not just a stop sign, but some flashing lights, a clearly delineated crosswalk, and one of those little signs you put in the middle of the road that states it's a pedestrian crossing. VERY dangerous corner. Hope they get to it!!

...might actually be safer than Erie past 10pm. However, be ready for some possible verbal harassment. I've been called a "f*g" on several occasions while on/near Manila (regardless of time of day), which is kind of funny - mostly because I'm not gay (I'm married with a kid, constantly chino-clad, and drive an old Subaru - just to give you an idea : ). I'm wondering if there is just one group of guys that go up and down Manila calling every man that walks by a "f*g". I wonder what they choose to call females that happen to be passing by...

I've had both and the customer service is much better at Cigna. However, there were very few in-network providers in and around Jersey City. I was living in Manhattan when I had Aetna, so I can't speak as to whether or not the situation would be the same if you were to go with Aetna.

New Fulop Complaint Forum?
#22
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

I heard about some new JC complaint/concern forum that was developed by our new mayor. Does anyone have any info on it? I live on 7th between Erie/Manila. Included on our block is a JCPD substation. The policemen COMPLETELY abuse their privilege and absolutely do not obey street cleaning rules AND continually double park - blocking in anyone that happens to park on this stretch of 7th street. Ultimately, as a result, our street isn't being cleaned at all (JCPA enforcement vehicle and street cleaner just drive down out block and don't even try to clean) - AND - residents are frequently blocked in by double parked cars. When we go into the precinct and explain we are trying to get out of our spaces, we're met with an attitude and a LONG wait. I've been late for work several times because of this, AND, I've, most recently, gotten a JCPA ticket because I was not able to move my car because it was blocked in by someone associated with the police department. VERY important to know - they have a HUGE parking lot that's VERY CLOSE to their building, meaning that their parking on 7th has nothing more to do with than a sense of entitlement and sheer laziness). Most importantly, our curbs are filled with old leaves, garbage, etc......... It's ridiculous and I'd like to be able to contact someone that can do something about this. While I understand the police are important, I don't feel they should be abusing their privileges the way they have been...

Re: Friends visiting from Manhattan...

...I can't believe that any "snark" came across in my original post?! I bought a home here over 3 years ago and LOVE it! It actually costs me MUCH more to live here than it did in Manhattan. I CHOSE to live here and am VERY happy to be out of Manhattan. I posed my question because I just want my in-the-darkness, clueless Manhattan/NYC outer borough friends to get the best impression of DTJC and share my sentiments? Is that so wrong!? (Sorry-but for the past 3 years, I've been getting innumerable contemptuous quips from anyone I know from NYC (not just my Manhattan friends - but, more annoyingly from the Astoria/Bushwick/Bay Ridge/Sunset Park/Dyker Heights crowd - which, in and of itself, I know, is ridiculous). Mapquest leads anyone that types in my address straight down Manila - which, as many others have agreed, is NOT the best representation of DTJC. Sorry if I offended anyone, I guess I just wanted these detractors I speak of to see DTJC for all of it's glory. For all of you that provided nice suggestions - thank you. For all the others, stop being so d*mn angry all the time (the angry undercurrent on JCList is a big turnofff). Also, I'm not sure why my original post was included in the "crime and safety" forum - but that wasn't my intention, either myself or the administrator made some type of mistake.

Friends visiting from Manhattan...

...so, I live in Hamilton Park. I'm inviting some anti-JC friends from Manhattan to come visit (lived in Manhattan for 10 years and NO ONE can understand why I left (of course - I do, but......). What kind of directions do I give them so they have a pleasant walk to my house on 7th from Grove Street PATH station (I live on 7th between Erie & Manila)? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Scam happening in A&P/Target Parking Lots?
#25
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

In the past few months I've been approached several times while getting into my car in the A&P and Target parking lots. Each time it is a different male in a different vehicle saying "I can fix those scratches on your bumper for a good price." I always decline and they are very persistent. Today, I was IN my car and two men pulled up behind me (basically blocking me in my space) and continued to honk their horn until I finally rolled down my window to see what they wanted. It was the same question again (the working is always the same). I know if might sound like they're just trying to get some business , but there's something really shady about these guys. Something just doesn't feel right. They always block me in my space. The first time it happened, the guy opened up his door and had me stuck between his car door and my car. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else?
