How it stayed open this long is truly a bloody miracle. We need a greek cafe like those found in 30 Ave in Astoria!

IGTM was horrible. The only other Greek place is here in Greenville, over on MLK called "Crazy Greek" but it wont do anyone downtown any good because their hours are awful. They close at 2PM right after lunch, but they are the real deal when comes to good food at a great value.

Thanks!

Hopefully it won't become another nail salon
or dry cleaners.

The Jersey City franchise is the lone business to go under. All the others have flourished. It's all about management.

This is sad but their franchise in Hoboken was way better. For what the JC IGTM chargrd, there were much beter places to eat.

This place does Greek very well. Worth a visit if you're over in the City.

I believe the age of mediocrity may be coming to a close in Jersey City. People have seen quality with a lot of recent additions to the area, and these restaurants have set the bar higher. It should prove interesting to see what comes into this prime space.

Well, I will miss it. Was the only place in downtown Jersey City where I would stop in for a to-go salad. They had great greek salad - dressing was delicious. Also, their fries were fantastic. Good small cheese pizzas, too. Hummus was very good. Sorry to see it close.

I'm not in a hurry for another expensive and trendy, calling-all-hipsters restaurant to take it's place. I go to the new places, and I like them, but sometimes you just want to grab something simple and easy but delicious.

I did not dine-in there, but I would wonder why more people didn't utilize all that space in there, especially larger parties and people with kids.

I am sad about it going out of business. I enjoyed their greek salads. It is the only place in town where I can find a decent salad with good, homemade dressing. I just can't seem to find a really good salad around this town.

The owners were nice, as well.

I have mixed feelings about them going under. I'm not surprised at all; they were never busy and their prices were very disproportionate to the quality.

That being said, every couple of weeks when we'd feel like a salad, we did like their spinach and greek salads (with calamari) and their hummus/pita. Also, their lunch specials were good and came out quick (great when you have a toddler).

I am excited to see what will replace it... It's a great space with a lot of potential. Would love to see Satis, Thirty Acres, Roman Nose, Orale and some of the other awesome additions bring on more competition :)

I may be alone in feeling this, but I've always enjoyed their food. The meat combo platters with French fries were my favorites.

I ordered from them twice when they first opened-- 2006 or so? I thought they overcharged for a minimal amount of mediocre food. I was actually surprised they stayed in business so long considering how people have been claiming their food had gone down hill.

I thought they were closed for the Orthodox Easter when I walked by on Friday .

Yup, not gonna lie, I was bitter many-a-time ordering from them the cost vs. quantity was a rip off. My wife sometimes called them to argue the insult we had getting a greek salad for eleven bucks that was mainly salad, limited everything else that defines it as greek. I would try and politely remind the wife that we know what rip-off we're getting in to buying it, as it's the same rip-off everytime but I needed my greek fix...but alas, she wanted to make her point.

That place went downhill years ago. I'm not surprised in the least that this franchise failed. The owners totally mismanaged it, and thought they could just make money on It's Greek To Me's name alone.

I only ask because we have called their number during their open hours of operation to get delivery and they haven't answered twice this week we've tried. It rings for a very long time and goes to a generic voice mail. I haven't driven, walked or rode by lately to find out and wondered if I should keep my hopes up I'll eventually get greek again or if they've gone out of business?

This place is a franchise. The owners probably just write it off.

I found the food there to be good quality but the pricing is way off the mark. IGTM in Hoboken has a $10 lunch Salmon special and its $20+ in JC. They do not have any lunch specials for take out, you have to eat there WHICH IS CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IDIOTS!!!!!

Anyway, I would eat there so much more if they had a lunch take out menu and better prices all around.

I definitely agree on the pricing. The place is just way too casual looking to charge $20-25 for entrees. I almost couldn't believe the prices.

As for the quality, it's obviously not the best Greek food I've had, but I wasn't grossly disappointed.

They are usually pretty empty, and it's another one of those mysteries to me -- how do they stay afloat?

Been to the one in hobo and was excited when the JC location opened. Went once and dinner was like $50 and I was not impressed. The moussaka is WAY better at brownstone and about half the price.
It takes some huge balls to charge $20 for an entree at a place that looks like a low rent take out joint.

I had a pretty bad gyro there a few years back and haven't been back since. It was a load (a crazy amount - I had to dump out 50%) of tough gyro meat on a pita with almost none of the cool crunchy stuff to balance it out. It's a shame when a street cart (specifically the street cart on Madison and 67th-ish) can put together a better gyro than a restaurant. I'm guessing a lack of customers means the meat is hanging around a little too long.

I agree, this place needs a makeover from the bottom up.

Greek Taverna in Edgewater beats IGTM on quality, but has a similar pricing issue. For me, Greek food has always been about mezes and a tapas-style experience. The way both restaurants are priced make that impossible. Shame.

I ate in there once to see if it varied from the so-so delivery. the only remarkable thing about the meal was when a large truck crashed into the traffic light on the corner of Jersey Ave in front of the pet shop and knocked it over.

I gave them a couple of chances. They are pricey (as others have mentioned), and all I could taste in the soggy spanakopita and lackluster moussaka was salt. Blah. I'm not surprised the place isn't busy. I'm surprised there's ever anyone in there at all.
