Re: JC DMV - Anyone Try this Lately?

DMV has split their locations into either vehicle centers or licensing centers. You can't do both at the same location anymore. I was very surprised by this considering the amount of people we have here in Jersey City ... to make our population travel to another city to renew their licenses. Jersey City DMV is a vehicle center now - so only things like car registrations. By the time you get to Bayonne, chances are high they will have reached their capacity and have stopped accepting people getting on line.

I would only suggest to also consider the ferry? There is one that goes to midtown ... in Paulus Hook, you might be close to the two ferry terminals there ... you would have to catch a bus from the Ferry Terminal station on the NYC side to get further into Manhattan, though.

I saw an unleashed husky two days in a row in front of home on 6th Street, if that helps. I thought it was very odd, the husky was perched on a stair column both days.

Hope you get your dog home safe and sound!

I love that statue.

I had written a long post, but deleted it and decided to save it for City Hall.

This might the the ONLY issue that brings me to a city council meeting, and I've lived in Jersey City for 30 years.

Every once in a while, someone on this board complains about that statue.

If it ever goes to city council to get rid of it or move it, I will make my first appearance.

And I'm not Polish.

They've always enforced it.

Got a ticket years ago when my sister parked overnight on my block - did not know I needed a visitors parking sticker (since I didn't own a car, all things parking was a mystery to me), was only aware of street cleaning regulations.

Any suggestions on places in the Downtown/Paulus Hook area serving corned beef & cabbage today with Guiness on tap?

I'm aware of Healy's and Brightside ...

Thanks!

If we are talking walking distance to waterfront, then you may want to focus on the Paulus Hook area.

Maybe Satis Bistro?

This guy's story is an absolute nightmare, and further proof that there has been zero change under Fulop. Zero. Same old circle-of-hell dealing with JC City Hall. Same old taking care of your friends while making examples of the people you don't know to justify the job you shouldn't even have in the first place. Same old ignoring the laws on the books. Same old throwing your weight around, thinking you are omnipotent because you represent 'the city'. Same old bullying behavior and tactics.

Where's Fulop? Where's the change he promised to bring this city out of exactly this king of thing?

I can only say that I'm disappointed in myself.

I bought Fulop's "rage against the machine" bit hook, line and sinker. He was a good councilman.

Only to witness his 180 once he got into office.

I can only answer to the security deposit. When the building we rent in was recently sold, our security deposit did change hands between the old owner and the new owner.

I had to walk through this festival to get to an appointment on Newark Avenue.

I wanted to stay on the sidewalk, but the corners of the intersection where I needed to cross were blocked with stalls/trucks - not cool. I had to move into the center of the street, where people were basically just standing still and milling about because they had no room to walk around either.

I'm not so sure the festival should be allowed to block the sidewalk?

That just hasn't been my experience. Many newcomers are coming from the suburbs or other states and are very attached to having a car. I understand maybe the people moving here from NYC don't come with cars.

We had two units become available in our building last year - in each unit a couple moved in. Each person brought their own car - so it's four new cars looking for parking on our street.

Till what time are polling places open today?

I did not vote before going in to work because I needed to be at work pretty early today and because past experience has taught me that my polling place is NEVER open at the time it's supposed to be.

Agreed.

Legitimate question to the council, though I wouldn't fault the council members for not knowing - I'm sure they were left out of it. Question probably more appropriate to be addressed directly to the Mayor's office.

Legitimate post.

Most of these positions don't compete with private industry. Some people like the security, regular hours and convenience of a local-government job. Plus, the pension and benefits are far richer than what they'd get at a private employer, so the total comp is really understated in these salary ranges.

We tried to go last Sunday .... all the parking lots were full and local police were directing traffic. It was a wait to park and a wait to get inside as well. Reminded me of trying to get into the National Zoo in DC. We gave up on it.

I grew up around there and remember it as a great, small zoo that was always easy to visit.

I hope to be able to get back in there someday and check out the updates and additions.

Fun fact: he claims to be a doctor but has never been licensed to practice medicine in the U.S.

I don't know the guy, and I'm defending him per se, but I have known quite a few people who were licensed, practicing doctors in their home countries. Of course, when they immigrated to the US - they could not practice here without obtaining a license to do so. Some would obtain the license, some wouldn't. Those that didn't pursued other type of work.

I don't even know if Malik qualifies as the latter - I don't know anything about him.

I grew up in an immigrant household, so I guess I'm defending the fact that when we met an immigrant doctor from our country, it was respectful to refer to that person as "doctor" among our community, whether or not the person practiced in the US. And no, if they didn't have a license to practice in the US, we didn't seek medical attention from them.

Check Candlewood Suites on 2nd Street - on the JC Downtown waterfront. They do take pets with a deposit according to their website. Don't know what the weekly rates are but they do market themselves as 'extended stay'.
