I would do exactly as you mentioned. Take PATH to Newport then transfer trains. If possible, leave a little earlier to avoid the crowds. 8-9am on PATH is killer, but 7-8am isn't too bad... yet.

All other methods will significant add costs and/or commuting times.

If paying two fares wasn't an issue, I would take Exchange to WTC than MTA up, but the WTC transfer just flat out sucks.

You'd be relying on the WTC/Hoboken line and the JSQ/33rd line which seems would double your chances of delays on any given day. It can be done but you'll prob hate life. Just do Path to WTC and then subway uptown unless you're really pinching pennies.

Why not take Path to WTC all the northbound MTA connections are there?

That's a lot of extra dough. If it were me, I'd just walk to Grove. Google walking directions take you to the entrance in the Grove St Plaza, but the Marin Blvd entrance is closer to Paulus Hook. I can't find a place in Paulus Hook that is more than a 12-14 minute walk (0.7 mi) to the Marin Blvd entrance, and most of PH is closer than that. That's not a bad walk, really, and less frustrating than relying on a light rail or subway connection. Oh, and a lot cheaper.

Yes ferry would definitely be an option, but more $$ than PATH + Light rail combo

I take PATH from exchange place to NYC daily but you don't mention a time of travel. I commute @ 10 am where there is no crowds and I am back in JC after 7 PM which is a little crowded but not terrible.

I would only suggest to also consider the ferry? There is one that goes to midtown ... in Paulus Hook, you might be close to the two ferry terminals there ... you would have to catch a bus from the Ferry Terminal station on the NYC side to get further into Manhattan, though.

Can anyone who makes the daily commute from Paulus Hook to midtown NYC via PATH comment on how feasible it is to walk to Exchange Place, take the PATH to Newport, then switch to the 33rd street line? (particularly interested in platform crowding, delays, etc).

Would a better option be Light Rail to Newport, then walking down to the PATH?

Last case option would be walking to Grove St, although that would be about a mile hike.
