Don't do it, I had a nightmare of an experience with them. You get what you pay for with them. The main reason for me switching to Virgin Mobile was because they are cheap.

I live downtown, so I can't comment on their signal in the heights, but frequently on holiday weekends I didn't have any sort of phone or internet coverage. I would spend quite a bit of time getting a hold of their call center (in India) to resolve the problem..

Everything was a 48 hour wait to investigate the problem. One day my phone just stopped working. For almost two months they couldn't figure out if it was my phone or my phone number.

I finally went to another carrier.

I know it is not Spanish, but I just saw in the old St. Mary's high school on 3rd St. in Jersey City a sign for a French immersion school opening in September.

I do not think it is public though.

I tried Exchange Place on Thursday and just stood there for over a half hour. I gave up and went back home.

I don't know if it was because Thursday was the first day for NJ Transit buses to be back since the storm or what.

I think I'm going to try whatever
Home > Schedules & Fares > Bus > Bus Point-to-Point Schedules Results says on NJ Transit website.

But I will see via website and find a way . Thanks all.

This is just getting worst! lol - i can't even print - I have no printer.

I didn't receive my Sample election ballot pamphlet in the mail either. I'm still going to vote.

Traveling to Newark (Mass Transit)

I usually commute to work on the PATH from Jersey City to Newark. Since the storm I need to find an alternate way to work.

Does anyone have experience taking the #1 NJ Transit bus to Newark Penn Station ? Does it not always stop at Exchange Place? I'm just wondering where all the bus stops are for this bus line. I don't see them listed on NJ Transit website. I find it sort of confusing.

I see a stop at Grand & Bright on NJ transit website, I assume there's a bus stop there.

No they're not open today. I walked by this afternoon. Someone had written on the window (with their finger on the dusty and dirty glass) something along the lines of "are you opening soon? we miss you!" There was no response to that message.

I'm sure the owner of the building set up an LLC for condoizing of the building and it's in the care of Jasco with their business address for tax and condo management purposes. I don't think that means that Jasco did the construction. They could have, but I'm sure if you call Jasco you could find out who actually did the work. there wasn't a big sign outside the building?

Aren't these questions you can ask the realtor?

I think having JASCO for your condo management versus being a renter and having JASCO as the property management will be different.

Who is the owner of the building that did the condo conversion?

Paulushooker, You might get a lot of help compiling your list from the library staff in the New Jersey Room of the Jersey City Library Main branch on Jersey Ave.

They have access to a ton of information (maps, photos, etc).

Yes it seems close to opening and I think it was the cupcake store, Cupcake Salon, that was in the Newport Mall.

It looks like that is why there is the Grove Street location opening because the mall location is closed.

Re: Anyone know more about the mugging on Jersey Ave. & 5th?

I heard second-hand:
==============
A woman from Hamilton Park was walking through the area of 5th and Jersey Avenue around 10:30 on a Thursday evening. Her purse was grabbed and the person ran east on 5th Street. Two passers-by went after the perp, one on skateboard. Apparently, they were close enough to scare the perp and he/she threw the purse into a garbage. The purse was recovered.

The woman had held onto her purse and was knocked down/dragged in the scuffle; she may have hit her head.

There were a lot of people in the area at the time and about 15-20 people quickly convened to help.
===============[/quote]

I will second Gordonh's second hand account. I was a block or so north walking my dogs when I heard the victim screaming for help. When it happened there weren't many people around except three people sitting the stoop hanging out and apparently the skate board kid. One of those people on the stoop was one that started chasing the perp.

By the time I circled around the block with my dogs, many of the neighbors were out helping her, searching for her bag and found her bag, and then the cops arrived.

It was definitely scary and who knows how long the perp was following her. She was very shaken, as I would be too. It's just a reminder that no matter how safe we feel downtown that everyone should be aware of their surroundings and be cautious.

Since this is a thread about animals and animal control i have a question. Is it legal to own a fox in NJ, even from birth? I know they are a little harder to tame than a dog but is it possible at all to own a fox in this state, more specifically JC?

I'm not sure if you are joking, but I thought it was an interesting question.

I believe foxes would fall under the category of potentially dangerous species by the state of New Jersey because they are part of the Order Carnivora and Family Canidae ? Nondomestic Dogs.

http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/dangrspp.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox

There are a lot of criteria you have to have for this permit and I would say most likely not, especially in an urban environment like JC.

So do you have a baby fox that you are caring for? and are you bringing it for a free rabies shot this weekend?

yes, I have had orthodics made by Dr. DelMonte. I'm wearing them right now. They were made quickly and it was nice that I didn't have to hassle with my insurance company about them. His office handled all of that, meaning I didn't have to go back and forth with my insurance about what they would cover. Obviously, it depends on your insurance.

2. The new vets try to up sell costly services and pet meds.

Vet meds are always going to be more expensive at the Vet. The mark-up is insane and one of the ways they make money. I don't feel that is anything new there. I always try to research to see if I can get them online cheaper or at Target (if it is also a human drug)(many of them are on their 4 dollar generic list). I always ask for a written prescription or have the pharmacy call it in. If your animal is on chronic and costly medication, it's only reasonable that you get it from a place that you find affordable.

4. They have a new policy whereby they want to take dogs from the examining room to the back for routine services. They used to do everything in the room with us present.

This happened to me also and I found it odd. I guess the only thing we can do is ask why they are doing that and say that we?d prefer they do it in front of us. Or go to another veterinarian like you are doing.

Thanks for sharing Zick. I recently went to the Liberty Humane Society on their Sunday Wellness Clinic because I thought it would be a little cheaper for a rabies shot. It really wasn?t. I thought the dog was getting a 3 year rabies shot, but they only had 1 year rabies shots for $20. I recently called Westside to see what they charge, it?s $37 for a 3-year rabies shot, but if the dog has never been there they give a 1 year booster and then require the 3 year the following year, which is probably what happened to my dog at the shelter. I was a little frustrated. Oh well, live and learn.

DOGJC is an local dog owner yahoo group. I get a lot of information , local and general. it's a pretty active group.

I've been going to Westside since 2005 and there's always been some turnover (1 or 2 vets), but not as much as there has been in the past few months. Overall I've been satisfied with them and they are the cheapest in Jersey City (let's be honest, pet care is expensive and I live on a budget).

I'd also be interested in what else you were referring to at Westside, Zick?

I was told Dr. Acosta is now at East Orange Animal Hospital on Fridays and Saturdays. And I think Dr. Fede (nee Thornton) is at Amboy Avenue Animal Hospital in Metuchen once a week.

I came home to a handful of teens hanging out on my stoop, talking and smoking. They politely stood up and excused themselves as I passed. They weren't bothering anyone, as far as I could tell. Were they on their way to cause trouble? Who knows.

A cop car pulled up, and without getting out, a police woman shouted at the kids through a megaphone, telling them to move it along. Her tone was incredibly snotty and bullying as she repeated, "don't just sit there lookin' at me, MOVE it!"

The kids left, still in a group. This wasn't crowd-dispersal, it was crowd-relocation, and what had been, to my eyes, a group of kids just sitting and chatting, was now a gang of pissed-off disrespected teenagers on the move.

I'm sure someone called the cops to report kids, who don't live there, about hanging out there. That is the only reason that the cop drove by and did what she did.

What's the best way to handle it though? Everyone's supposed to be okay with kids hanging out on their building stoop, specifically kids who do not live in the building?

Politely asking them to relocate doesn't really work.

It's called InStyle Hair Studio now. New owner, but Lucy will still be working there.

I passed by tonight and saw that there's a sign in the window for a grand opening on Tuesday, April 27th (5-8pm). I don't know their new phone number yet.

The last I heard they were getting ready for their inspection by the health dept. so they could open. It looks nice inside, they painted and put up new curtains, seating area.

I live close to these condos and a few months ago they planted trees along the right side of the building (if you're looking at the building from across the street) and they cleared out all the cars from the parking lot.

The only car that is parked there day and night is a pick-up for a construction company.

The automatic door to the parking lot is no longer working and hasn't been for a good six months and it is kept locked with a bike lock.

When cars were in the parking lot there was land rover with four flat tires that sat there for a year or longer. When they cleared the cars out, I guess it was towed out.

I think it's odd that the tenants are not allowed to park in the lot anymore and I thought I heard they might be putting an extension onto the building (extending into the parking lot). I could be totally off base though.
