When I want a great burger, I go to White Star. The cheese at 5G is revolting.

Five Guys is open now. A decent burger and pretty good service. I ordered online and my order was ready exactly on time.

It's not In N' Out or Shake Shack level deliciousness, but much better than Fatburger, in my humble opinion.

They should have opened on Newark Avenue - that area always seems a no man's land - where everything just goes under.

Seems to me you would want lots of foot traffic with a burger joint - Newark Avenue or maybe Grove Street - the high rise people just get stuff delivered anyway.

I used to live by the original 5 Guys in Arlington VA and really liked their burgers and the atmosphere. My friends used to say we should franchise it. That was back when there were only 3.

Five Guys > Fat Burger. Ive never been a big fan of Fat Burger. Almost all my friends rave about it, but the few times Ive went, the burger always tasted burnt. The burgers at Five Guys are very good and the cajun fries might be a bit salty to most, but I love 'em. If I could suggest anything to make that place better, Id ask for several cheese options. My favorite burger in the area is the Gruyere Cheeseburger at Iron Monkey. I highly recommend it if you're a fan of swiss cheese. And for everyone that's saying we need an In-N-Out, I completely agree. I still haven't tried one, but everyone that I've spoken too loves their burgers. Check out their 100x100.

The Muscle Maker Grill next to Fatburger is taking forever to open. Maybe they've been trying to come up with envelopes full of cash. Maybe they will not be opening at all and the Five Guys will open there instead? Hard to imagine two burger joints going up side-by-side, but McDonalds and Burger King do it all the time.

I know it's off topic, but I so wish Muscle Maker was going to be a Chipotle instead.

Oh God. I can't believe all the Five Guys fans on this thread. Five Guys doesn't make a good burger ... it's a fast food, grease bomb burger about 1 notch above McDonalds. It's not a "real" burger. To the people who are saying they are the best ... have you ever had a real burger?

A real hamburger should be about an inch thick, and cooked TO ORDER (medium rare), nut just however they feel like cooking it.

I ate at Five Guys in Hoboken once, and I was extremely, extremely disappointed. Overpriced for what it is, too.

These are all REAL burgers:

http://nymag.com/restaurants/cheapeats/2009/57878/

Those burgers cannot even be mentioned in the same breath as Five Guys.

Rod's in Sea Girt has a good burger, too.

Tried 5 guys in Hoboken last week and I didn't see any shakes. Burgers were OK but certainly wouldn't rush back for them. No better than Johnny Rockets. Lots of fries though and the peanuts are a nice touch. Not sure of where I could recommend a burger place. Only ones I can think of would both be in Hoboken, O'Neails or Back Bear.

huh... it's a fast food burger, much different than any/all bar burgers I know. completely different animal. flat patty, not cooked to requested temp (all well done).

anyway, prefer 5Gs to Fatburger so this is welcome in my book. Not crazy about any of the bar burgers in town, too much inconsistancy.

there's a good east coast substitute on 3rd ave between 13th and 14th named 'blue 9 burger'. a straight rip off of in&out in every way, but it's actually real good.

The Shake Shack at Citifield (and the others I'm sure) makes a nice burger.

the burgers at juniors papaya (1 block away from the five guys in hoboken) tastes exactly the same to me as five guys.

ill give you that they both taste better than mcdonalds and BK. and ill also give you that their burgers are huge ( i ordered the double at five guys and it was ridiculously large), but it's not all that different than any other burger at a decent bar and grill

I love 5 guys, think they are great burgers but two I think are better are Shake Shack burgers and a little place in Highland Park called White Rose System.

Fatburger is great, but they got that music at full blast. Five Guys rules, been a fan since the one on 55th Street opened and now I go to the one on LaGuardia, nearest to Bruno Bakery. A pit stop before hitting a fine foreign flick at the Angelika, or the Quad.

Blasphemy. Never been to the one in Hoboken, but it's a chain so I can't imagine it's much different from the other ones I've been to. <3 5 Guys.

I was suprised at how expensive 5 Guys in Hoboken was; buddy and I got some lunch at it added up quick...for a chain buger spot. Definitely up the ladder from McD's/BK Longue/Wendy's of the world but I would say they are comparable to Fatburger, In and Out and the Windmill's (Jersey's own)

I will miss Fatburger's milkshakes.

I think it may be physically impossible to finish a fat burger, fries and a shake without napping after. Thanksgiving dinner pales in comparison.

Noooo! We love Fatburger. Hopefully if it does close, 5 guys will open up quickly afterwards. Of course, this being JC, I doubt that will happen.
