Is the JC pool and sprinkler schedule up somewhere? I don't see it on the City of JC website.

I tried Uber and totally love it. Local fares within JC are generally only $6. They come right to you and the cars are nice. I usually use "UberX", the lowest level. Fares to the city are generally on about $35!

If you try it, use my code to get $20 in credit on your first ride:

I ate here over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. My burger was nice and juicy. No odd smell. Decent service. I'll go again.

I'm not here to debate with you, so I'll just copy and paste Michael Sinatra's response. He's in the Whole Foods Public Relations and Public Affairs division:

A PR Manager is not in charge of store opening decisions, just relaying the official corporate line. I notice the petition already has +200 more signatures than last night. It's worth a shot that someone at Whole Foods and/or Trader Joe's will pay attention. Sign it and pass it along if you haven't already:

Whole Foods/Trader Joe's in JC, our favorite topic on this site, second to debating whether or not Taqueria sucks...

Someone has started a petition to get Whole Foods and Trader Joe's in Jersey City. It may be a long shot, but why not? Sign here and spread the word:

Permit Questions from a Home Reno Newbie

I always hear horror stories about getting construction permits in Jersey City. Could someone explain why this is the case? Any tips on how to make it go more smoothly?

How exactly do you get a permit?

Also, do you always need new permits? What if you are essentially doing a cosmetic upgrade? i.e. putting in new everything - cabinets, appliances and tiles - but the layout is identical to before?

I haven't had good luck the last two times I asked for my mail to be held. The first time, the confirmed mail hold was just completely ignored. The second time, it was partially held, but the accumulated mail was delivered before it was suppose to be, and there is mail missing that I confirmed with the senders was sent. I even spoke to our mail person face to face about the most recent request to make sure she knew about it. That's the JC post office for you.

Interested in architect reco's for a kitchen and bathroom renov - potentially other parts of the home too. Also, I've never done a renovation before. Would be interested to hear from others who've done gone through renovations in Jersey City on advice and experience in terms of the timeline from plans to completion, things to avoid, and how exactly you work with an architect. Thanks!

Re: Pilates Specific recommendations

I have been to both Project Pilates and Pilates Haus and can recommend both. Project Pilates has a greater variety of classes to chose from, and is a great option for the Hamilton Park area. Very friendly staff and nice new equipment.

Personally, I find Pilates Haus more hardcore, in a good way. It is very much about the classic school of pilates. The instructors give you a lot of attention and I have learned a lot about the correct way to do the movements and exercises. Tetsuo is the master! He will push you and really make you work your core. However, I do wish they had a greater variety of classes to choose from. They mainly have mat classes, and one tower class on the weekends. You can't take reformer classes unless you do a private or semi-private class. The equipment is also a little older, but very well maintained. Amazing classes though. I always leave feeling two inches taller.

Re: To JC Bikers Who Ride on Sidewalks...

Just can't stay away

Idiots who have posted lamo justifications about why it's "okay" for them to ride their bikes under their really special unique circumstances:

1. Oh, some roads are just too bad/dangerous to bike on: Walk your bike on the sidewalk, lamo.

2. I love my family too much for them to ride on the street: Walk your bikes on the sidewalk, lamo.

3. It's the bad, evil pedestrian who should not dare to walk around with ear buds in, or while talking on the phone: OMG. Are you seriously turning this into a conversation where the pedestrian is at fault?

Not only should adults not ride on the sidewalk, any child who has passed puberty should not be on the sidewalk.

This is not to say that I don't understand why a biker would be tempted to ride on the sidewalk in JC. JC drivers...a rant for another time.

We ordered delivery tonight after seeing the posts and reading the Yelp reviews and quickly wolfed down our meal. It did not disappoint! Straight up authentic deliciousness without any attitude. Ordered carnitas tacos, pulled pork burrito, and one of each kind of tamale. Pretty fast (free) delivery too. I can't wait to try everything on the menu now that I have it. Very reasonably priced too. So happy that a really good Mexican place now delivers downtown.

Went for brunch. I enjoyed the Shrimp Po Boy. The food overall was decent and the prices were very good. Nice service. I hope people will check it out. We could use a new place in the neighborhood that isn't another pizza or Thai place.

Anyone have any opinions on Sandra Cunningham vs Bruce Alston for State Senator? I looked up Sandra Cunningham's list of sponsored bills and am inclined to vote for her based on her record and experience.

Also, what about Jeffrey Dublin versus Arnold Williams for Freeholder? The only thing I know was Jeffrey Dublin was/is a member of the "old world" school board, which to me is shorthand for being a Healey supporter and useless.

Portions are big, but I had a shawarma and found the meat a little dry and chewy. Ibby's is by far better. Also service was slow. I had to wait over 10 minutes for my sandwich.

Still...nice to see them in the neighborhood versus another dollar store.

Composting in Downtown JC

Am thinking about getting a small worm composter for my apartment, but since I don't have a backyard, I'm wondering what I would do with the compost.

Anyone know if any of the local downtown parks, VYP or Hamilton, will take the compost?
