user,
Thanks for posting.

BobNesta & Wishful,
Thank you for the kind words. We grew up in this neighborhood and we're fortunate that we're able to setup shop here.

Cory,
Thanks for the interest. We're still tweaking the site, but it should be up at some point today. As far as price points, t-shirts are priced at $25, caps are $30-$35, and our accessories range from $3 to $35. For our cut and sew collection, prices are in the neighborhood of $34 to $60.

If you or anyone else has any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you.

Just got off the phone with them and they do have a dress code policy. They're going for a more upscale vibe so slacks and dress shoes are a requirement. They stated they'd be a bit more lax during the day, but that it would strictly enforced at night. Hope that clears things up.

Good to see the JCList trolls are alive and well. If Raval chooses to ban sneakers, I have no issue with that. Their place. Their rules. Cool. I'll give them a call later to ask about their dress code.

neanoora,

As previous posters have mentioned, take pictures of where your car was parked along with the closest parking sign or possibly the pole where a sign might've been removed, and fight the ticket.

I've gone to court three times with the same issue and the judge dismissed my ticket each time. Best of luck.

Park and Sixth's signature wings, a mix of blue cheese and buffalo sauce, are my favorite in town and their .50 Wednesday wing nights - at the Gastropub location on Washington - are a good value.

In addition to the signature wings, they also have a honey gorgonzola, a thai curry, and a truffle parm - which, unfortunately, are pretty dreadful.

Definitely looking forward to trying JCWingery's offerings and also, several friends have raved about Ace's Wings, a local caterer specializing in, you guessed it, wings.

Agree with the sentiment that Wok N Roll wasn't very good...

I last ate at Fun Buffet - the one near the WB - many years ago and I only really went for two reasons: 1. The price. If my memory serves me correctly, the price for lunch was around $5. 2. This extremely greasy cheesesteak casserole type dish. While good, I always felt a few steps closer to death after eating it.

I imagine the offerings at Hibachi Grill to be similar to what they serve over at Flaming Grill in East Rutherford, but hope its quality is more in line with the choices at Tokyo Buffet in Secaucus.

tommyc_37,

They were in the running/lifestyle category.. i.e. Air Max 1s and Flyknits. Saw a friend hanging outside - on a mid-dinner smoke break - and he'd gotten in with Air Jordans so I was confused.

Didn't want to ask the bouncer "what about him?" fearing that I might end up screwing my buddy over...

No big deal though, we were just caught off guard considering no other restaurant in the area - that I'm aware of at least - has a no sneaker rule.

Attempted to stop by Friday night, but since my friends and I were wearing sneakers, we weren't allowed in. Is Raval meant to be formal/semi-formal or was this "no sneaker" policy in place for opening night only?

Five Guys > Fat Burger. Ive never been a big fan of Fat Burger. Almost all my friends rave about it, but the few times Ive went, the burger always tasted burnt. The burgers at Five Guys are very good and the cajun fries might be a bit salty to most, but I love 'em. If I could suggest anything to make that place better, Id ask for several cheese options. My favorite burger in the area is the Gruyere Cheeseburger at Iron Monkey. I highly recommend it if you're a fan of swiss cheese. And for everyone that's saying we need an In-N-Out, I completely agree. I still haven't tried one, but everyone that I've spoken too loves their burgers. Check out their 100x100.

Unrelated - not that I am interested in playing but, has anybody heard of any organized stickball around here? Stickball is the real game.
I remember a long time ago that they once closed off a section of Marin Blvd. for a stickball tournament. I did a quick google search and apparently Jersey City has had a stickball team for a number of years called the Saints. It looks like they're still competing actively in the New York Emperors Stickball League. You can find out more info here. http://www.stickball.com/ If we can get enough people, I'd definitely be down to play a pickup game / tournament. <>

Got a chance to go to the opening as well and had a good time. I think I got there around 8 and walked around the place before getting on line for some grub. We were probably 20th in line and it took almost 30 minutes before we got to place our order and another 10 minutes to get our food. Granted, when we got on line, they had just opened the kitchen so it was understandable. As far as the food, it was good. The Andouille was my favorite of their sausage offerings. I wanted to try the cheese brat, but they'd run out of it. One the workers told us that tonight was supposed to be a soft opening and they weren't expecting such a big turnout. Not sure if he was misinformed, but they did seem severely understaffed. The wait for drinks was about 15 minutes. I saw 2 bartenders working the main bar and I saw at least another 2 working the other one. Drink pricing was fair. I only had Abita's Purple Haze all night so I was paying $5 for a pint and $10 for a liter. Not sure how much the pitchers were. For its first night, I think they did pretty well and would definitely come back in the future. I took some flicks and uploaded them so feel free to browse through them. For those driving in, there is no parking lot so your going to have to find street parking. You can view the rest of my pics here. Zeppelin Hall

alek8,
Yup. Replace a few things and it's pretty much how it went down.

ihatethiscity,
Hmm, dont see where I mentioned anything about selling the house and if we did, I'd advertise the space as a concrete front yard.

I honestly didnt realize that some of you were this passionate about driveways. Im not even trying to be condescending, but I never really knew it was that big of an issues. Ive always operated under the notion that if you wanted a driveway in residential neighborhood, it was cool to make one. Guess I was wrong.

Addressing my own situation, like I said, we didnt know the legalities of making a driveway. We knew about the parking permit situation but we weren't aware that we needed permission to make an actual driveway. Yeah I know, ignorance isnt an excuse, but it is what it is.

As far as my parking situation, I live in a residential neighborhood next to Duncan Ave. where just about every house on my block has a driveway. It wouldn't surprise me if some of them were illegal, but whether or not they are or arent, Ive always respected any space that looks remotely like a driveway. Upon moving to the area, we had a very hard time finding parking especially late at night. My sister and mother felt extremely uncomfortable when they'd have to park on Mallory Ave which intersects Duncan right by Lincoln Park. Those concerns are pretty much what led us to go ahead and make the driveway. So all of you calling us selfish, now you know that safety was the deciding factor.

As far as me parking in my fake driveway, I've parked there once for a total of 20 minutes since the inspector came last week and its the only time I've ever parked there. People park in front of it all the time, so I haven't taken anything away from my neighbors.

Addressing the quip about ruining my neighborhood, I embellished on what my garden was. It was actually a dirt patch with weeds growing in it that acted as a giant kitty litter box for the feral cats on the block. The tree I mentioned, I imagined that. I dont think anyone in the neighborhood misses it too much. In fact, a few of the kids that live on the block play in the space every now and then.

So to ease everyone's concerns, I have a driveway that doesnt get used by cars, but by children. People park SUVs, cars, cabs, trucks, and even a small bus in front of it. If you're in my neighborhood, please feel free to park there too. It's the open concrete space free of oil spill stains.

Im a member of Brick Haus as well and dont really have any complaints either.

After not going for over 9 months, I honestly tried to quit about a month ago, but long story short, they talked me into staying and it was a good decision. Now I made time to go every weekday morning and like most people have said, Ive never had to wait for a machine and Ive had nothing but positive experiences with the staff. The only thing I dont like about BH are their smoothies. Yuck.

You basically go in, do what you gotta do, and leave. If chilling and hanging around after your workout is your thing, then Club H is probably a better option for you. Ive never been there myself, but Ive walked by it on several occasions. Personally, I dont feel comfortable trying to talk to girls when Im a sweaty mess, but hey, some people just have more "swag" than me.

For parents with children, Brickhaus has a little kids room where they can play and watch TV while under the supervision of a staff member while you work out. The parking lot is a huge plus considering those vultures we call the parking authority are constantly hovering around that area.

Guess that's all I have to say.

monj,

I dont know what an R1 variance is but when my family moved to our new house about 3-4 years ago, we had a little garden and tree in front of our house. My mother decided to remove it and replace it with a driveway. I warned her that I saw something in the journal that the city was no longer giving out parking permits for driveways or something along those lines but she went ahead and did it anyway.

As soon as the work was finished, a city employee came to us with a picture of our driveway saying that it was illegal and that we couldn't park there. Apparently, one of our new neighbors was kind enough to inform the city of what we had done. Jerk. The guy said to check back with them at a later date to see if anything comes up in regards to new permits.

Fast forward to last week where we finally had another inspector come again to look at the space. He looked over the driveway and told my mother that since it wasn't part of the original city plans/neighborhood breakdown or something like that, we would never be able to get a legal permit for that space. He did however say that we could use it, but if someone were to block our driveway, we wouldn't have any right to tell them to move their vehicle. Ive honestly started parking my car in it just to see if anyone is really going to block me in.

I hope that helps and best of luck with your situation. Please keep us posted. Well, me at least. Thanks.

I've had problems with the B of A branch at Old Colony Square. I reported my card stolen and requested a new one. Im told to wait about a week for the card to come in the mail. About 2 weeks go by and nothing comes. I go back to the branch and tell them I never got my card and long story short, they tell me the request was never processed.

Anyway, in case anyone missed this, if B of A has ever caught you with their shady banking practices, namely hitting you with overdraft fees, you might be entitled to up to $78. The deadline for this is May 1, 2009.

You can find out more info here.

I know that on Tuers and Mercer, the zone permit rules are enforced. If I were you, I'd definitely play it safe and just get the permit.

Not to thread jack, but on another note, does anyone have any information about the McGinley Square shopper's parking lot? It's a train wreck of a space.

Amongst the things that confuse about the lot is the "No parking" that was tagged on both sides of the parking lot sign. I dont know if this was a simple act of vandalism or if the owners of the lot did it themselves. Just seems a bit odd to me.

Another thing is the a sign posted on the fence, near the entrance, that says metered parking from 9 to 6pm, but then on the meters, it says 9 to 9. Which one am I supposed to follow?

And last but not least, some of the meters are missing and only a handful are in the lot. Are these meter-less spaces being rented out?

Ive asked a few POs about the lot but none of them could give me any solid info. Thanks in advance for any info.

*edit sorry just caught your Kennedy / Duncan post. Not to familiar with the zone parking around there.

UrbanRenewal,

Yup, Daily Dose Rx is a shop that a friend and I are opening up. We're going to be carrying mostly New Era fitteds, and "streetwear" brands like "crooks & castles, rocksmith, vices of our virtues, lemar & dauley, as well as our own instore brand. Prices on the tees are probably going to start around $25.

I guess you can say we're catering to the younger crowd and the young at heart. As far as sneakers, we're going to have vintage models and harder to find nikes, jordans, and whatever else we can get our hands on.

As well as it being a shop, it's also going to be a design studio. So if anyone needs logo work, graphics, or anything design related, you can come to us.

Target date for the shop opening is the 16th, not the 15th like it says on the banner. Something came up where we had to push it back a day. Definitely come through though. We're going to have a grand opening party and all that good stuff to celebrate the occasion. I'll post a thread when the shop is closer to completion. Thanks.

Minnie,

Appreciate the compliment. Have a good one.
