Just an FYI, according to Wikipedia since I can't find this info anywhere else at the moment...path will be more expensive than the nyc subway.

As of October 1, 2014, a single PATH ride will rise to $2.75; two-trip tickets will be $5.50; 10-trip, $21; 20-trip, $42; 40-trip, $84 ($2.10 per trip); a seven-day unlimited, $29; and a 30-day unlimited, $89.

fck no it didn't, my trip took an extra 20. I know this because I punched in at 10:16, when my train on Sunday normally gets me there at 9:57 (:55 plus 2 minutes to walk through the door and clock in).

Also, I fkn love the stupidity the PA does

They did this last Sunday too. It probably added another 5 minutes to the ride? They also ran at least one outbound train direct to Hoboken only, with no explanation. We had to change to a JSQ train (which, of course, ALSO stopped in Hoboken).

Where the schedules don't matter because the excuses are made up! Don't bother using the posted schedules today. According to the conductor and flunkie on the phone, the schedules aren't accurate today due to *spins the wheel* construction!

The scheduled 9:34 departed at 9:29. The only slight saving grace was the scheduled 10:09 came at 9:41. Leave yourselves a good 15 minutes extra today folks. Who knows what the #OOPS# they're doing today

This isn't new, the PA has held some kind of riders forum for years. It's basically a useless PR move where they pretend to care but don't take any suggestions seriously.

People have already told the PATH execs we only want one real thing, bypass the Hoboken stop on weekends (and now nights). They don't care.

At one of the community meetings about the WTC closure, there actually was a decision maker in attendance. Many people raised this Hoboken issue. He dismissed this by saying something to the effect of Hoboken is the center of our area and their data indicates lots of riders want to go there. We said listen to everyone in this room, that isn't true and JC wants to skip Hoboken. He ignored it.

So I'd only sign up for this latest PR "rider council" if you like getting smoke blown up your ass.

PATH Education Series (PES)


PATH has developed a new initiative to increase educational outreach in the communities we serve via the PATH Education Series (PES). PES sessions are offered in the evenings at 6:30 p.m. Session are expected to run no longer than 90 minutes and will include a 30-minute question and answer period. agreed. but he was already near the top of the stairs, and there was no train coming that anyone had to rush to. loudmouth just turned a minor annoyance into a major scene, and for what?

When exiting a crowded train, I usually just wait 30 seconds on the platform for the crowds to rumble up the stairs. Once they clear out, I walk up stress free. It's worth the half minute in my eyes.

you're right but the cyclist is entitled to walking down the staircase just as much as passengers are entitled to walk up it. If there are better rules or signage indicating which stairs to be used for up and down, it would simplify things a lot more.

Having lived in Tokyo, the subway crowds are horrendous. However, there are signs with arrows up and down on staircases and marked lines that help control traffic flow. No one crosses the line - i've been there when a complete staircase is empty coming down and everyone is walking on the up staircase because no one wants to cross the downstaircase line. At least there, people follow rules.

A humble request:

When a packed train lets out at Grove, and another train isn't on the horizon, could the people at the top of the stairs just wait a goddamned minute and let the platform empty instead of pushing your way down the staircase?

Yes I know, technically, the right side of the stairs belongs to you, lone guy heading to the platform. But there's nothing waiting for you down there besides several hundred people trying to get up.

Today, a man carrying a bike headed up the left staircase. A fat loudmouth saw him walking up - he was only about five stairs from the top - and then began descending anyway, blocking the cyclist's way, shouting "get on the right side!" and generally being an obnoxious asshole just for the sake of being one.

Loudmouth then started a shoving match with the cyclist on a packed staircase, and for what reason? He didn't get to the platform any more quickly. He just made a frustrating moment volatile, because he was "in the right."

Well, who cares if you're "right." Don't be an asshole. Riding the PATH is stressful enough without this.

(And from where I was standing, walking up the left staircase was the courteous thing for the cyclist to do, as it kept his bike from knocking into anyone else going up.)

ConstantReader: you hit the nail on the head! It seems as though the whole Hoboken thing needs to be addressed. There are more people that take the JSQ/NWK trains and so to meet demand, those trains should be more frequent.

Even when the trains are at their normal weekend schedule, Hoboken should have their own trains running less frequently.

The way the trains are set up currently makes no sense!

Late Sunday night, I waited 30 minutes at 14th St. for the PATH (11:45pm-12:15am). There were at least 100 people also on the platform.

When the train finally arrived, it was packed, so not everyone could get on--and the same thing happened at 9th and Christopher. So many people had to wait another 30 minutes for a train.

Does it really have to be this way, PATH? If you're going to have only ONE train serving Jersey City and Hoboken on weekend nights--instead of the THREE different trains that run during the week--perhaps it would be a good idea to run trains more frequently? Is black on white crime rising? This in the wake of an elderly Chinese man just beaten to death in a random act of senseless violence in the East Village by a young person of color? This received very little press as I am sure this knock-out incident will too. So when a basketball team owner (who's about 106 years old) says something negative about "black people" we should crucifiy him every day in the press for about a month or two? Do we treat hate crimes equally or does it depend who the victim is?

Agree with you totally. There were two escalators running. Why were they both going down? Can't one be changed to go up? Also, there's always one broken escalator. And the doors don't close properly on the other one. It's like a third world station.

Correction: even third world stations are better.

Last night at 6pm at Exchange Place, the elevator was crowded and there were no up escalators. There was two down escalators. There were more people trying to walk up the steps than people using the escalators coming down.

This morning at 9:15 at Exchange Place, there were no elevators working, and there were no down escalators. Again, there were more people trying to walk down the stairs than people using the escalators coming up.

There was nobody in charge at the station. Who makes these decisions?

It's complicated. PATH used to stop at 34th, but the station was pushed a block south for construction of the Herald Square station at some point in the 30s/40s when the Sixth and Eighth Ave lines were built.

The #6 stops at 33rd because station construction was blocked by the trolley tunnel that runs under Park from 34th to Grand Central, now used as a vehicular tunnel. Next time you're at 33rd on the #6, look at the express tracks. They sink very low beginning at that station to go underneath the tunnel.
