Funny, I've lived in JC for a little over a year now and just found this forum. I was wondering the same thing... I live in Paulus Hook, and while this is a really great neighborhood, the bars are only so-so. When I first moved here, I was going to Harbor Casino a lot, Iron Monkey, York Street Tavern.. all the local spots, but I never seem to find too many people out. It's mostly just dinner dates chatting casually amongst themselves.

It's great when I wanna take a date out around in this area, but not so good for finding anybody local unfortunately. Where are all the Paulus Hook party people? haha

I have not been to the Merchant yet. The Iron Monkey is a very nice spot though.

Thursday night is ladies night at Lucky 7. Lots of single girls there on Thursdays including me and my single girlfriends. Also try White Star in Wednesday's for 6 dollar dinner night...lots of single women there as well.

Funny, I'm wondering where any guys under 35 go.

Totally depends on the night, but I've seen good crowds at Iron Monkey and Merchant.

Where do all the Jersey City single girls go???

Walking in and by most bars downtown you start to wonder if there are any girls down here!

Ludo has the best idea... arrange a sigles night and post it, id be happy to go and support that. I will even spread the word to my female friends in the area. It could be a very fun night!

From my experience there does not seem to be any one bar that could be designated as a good place for singles to hangout and meet people. It all seems to depend on the night and what happens to be going on at the bar on a particular night. Maybe the right answer is for all of the JC List singles to pick a bar and night to get together.

I can't speak about the JC bars, but apparently these girls are available:

See, I told you. Now move on over to Captain Al's or Zeppelin Hall. There's nothing to see at the Cicada.

The last time I was in there the tray had a tube coming from it that ran behind the bar. I can only imagine the tube was there to drain whatever liquid accumulates in the tray.

I wasn't trying any of the drink specials that day.

GoldenCicada is a great place to go if you're an older gent that wants to sit around somewhere really quiet with a couple of other older guys drinking some whisky and watching a tv.

It is not a great place to go in any other sense. But I do know a couple people that love it there for that reason. Crazy Chester might be one of those people. Certainly not a singles bar. Certainly not a bar for anyone other than those select few. And as far as I can tell, there's no wii or dumplings. There is, however, a ceiling tile that's been replaced with one of those aluminum buffet trays.

Either Crazy_Chester is the owner of the bar and trying reverse psychology on us, or is afraid of his low-key hangout getting invaded...

Well that's helpful. Some could say the same for the entirety of Jersey City.

I went to the Golden Cicada on Saturday night with a bunch of friends and we had a great time. I am definitely going back! I love that they have a Wii console and I hear the dumplings are awesome too :)

Ok, I've always made fun of the Golden Cicada because it looks terrifying from the outside. But last night, my roommate and I finally decided to go in and it was actually pretty cool. It definitely wasn't hoppin, but there were some other people our age at the bar who were friendly. And the owner is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Oh and the people next to us were raving about the pork dumplings.

I totally wrote this place off at first, but I'm glad I gave it a try. I wouldn't call it a singles bar either, but it's a very welcoming little place with friendly people. Try it.

I'm thinking o'hara's on marin and 2nd is a good place.

Was there tonight. Crowded and was getting more so.

Nice crowd even if it is a sports bar, which, btw, is the best one in the area.

i'll second that! def do NOT go there trying to meet people. some real characters hang out there. go with your friends. also, stick to the bottled beers there. the drinks taste like dirty glasses and give wicked hangovers.

You mean Golden Cicada? I can't imagine it being great for a 'singles bar' but it is a pretty cool old school bar.
