Re: Pershing Field Pool -- Will it ever reopen?

Well since you were so turned off with the pool and restroom at Ferris, I'm sure you'd never even consider going to the other pool which is open several evenings a week...it's in Greenville...god forbid. Surely a snob like you would never go to that part of town. The restroom was a disaster, but I have been the only swimmer and the guards are nice. The restroom at Ferris is no better or worse than what I've seen at Pershing over the past 8 years. Ya there is weave hair on the floor...but whatever. Wear flip flops and get over it.

Like you told me, swimmers will always find a pool...good to know you hate the options we have for free evening open swim at the moment. I love the 2 pools I found that have free evening swim hours.

No work in was done January at all, but this week saw the start of resurfacing the decks, then the pool, followed by paint and then filling. I'm holding to my original guestimate of Memorial Day.

Ferris is way overheated and gnarly restroom, I went out of desperation and won't miss it. I guess we can always suit up and swim with Steve Ironman Fulop!

I am at Ferris now Colleen. There is no open swim here tonight as the dep of rec has evenings reserved for kids swim clinics. Guess you got lucky when you said you were here recently on a Thursday. Rosemarie is here now, she works for the dept of rec. she said this location is no longer open to the public for open swim and has not been for the most part since the hurricane.

I now have the official list of JC pools with open swim times. If anyone wants the info message me.

Thanks for the info about when you swam at Ferris last. 'll try Ferris again Monday evening. I'd love to talk to Jeri at St. Peters, but I work a 9-5 and can't be there in the morning. What is it that I should speak to her about? Will she allow me me to swim at St Peters in the evening? I'll be at St.Peters tomorrow evening playing Kayak Polo...I'll ask for her whilst I am there. IS she an employee of St. Peters? I could also call St. Peter's week day mornings and ask for her if she works there.

Colleen, you have swum at Ferris in the past few months /weeks between the hours or 5-7:30 pm? When were you there? Time and date. One of the kids I ran into there yesterday at 6pm told me that the pool had been closed to non students since the hurricane as far as he knew. I was there yesterday and I got to the pool area and there was no lifeguard. I was told by a coach that I was not allowed to swim without a lifeguard being present (no surprise there). No car and no money to pay dues...thanks though.

I've been to both places. If you're really a swimmer you'll find a place to swim. It might mean a drive or dues, tho.
Last word I got was the locker/bathrooms are done, the deck will be resurfaced. Target March? which means May. Crossfit, anyone?

You read my mind Sam112, I was just thinking about posting this very same question.

What bugs me more than the fact that Pershing Pool is still closed is that on the Dep of Rec/ JC Govt. website sited below the city states that in addition to the open swim at St Peters from 8-11 am M-F for members of Pershing Pool (terrible hours for those of us who work 9-5 as you said) is that there is also supposed to be open swim at Ferris High School from 5:30-7pm M-F. On the 4 occasions I've gone during those hours the pool is closed, and when I have called the Dept of Rec no one knows what I am talking about. I was told to speak to a person named Jamie at the Dept of Rec, but when I call they are never there. This persons number is 201-547-5003

This is a press release from the official JC Gvt. website and the link is below, "While Pershing Field Pool is closed, the City – in conjunction with the Board of Education – will also open the Ferris High School pool on October 8th, Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for evening swim, free of charge to all residents. Ferris Pool will be closed for all city and school holidays."

According to the city's website referenced below, 'Residents who are removing snow from around a vehicle, sidewalk, or home are required to pile all shoveled snow against the curb line'.

Well maybe it doesn't have to be done by 10 pm tonight, but it must be done by sunrise. From below,''within 8 hours of snowfall or by sunrise, whichever comes first'Quote:

" illegal alien's wolf whistle"??? WTF? Who is illegal? Why would you assume Ibby's employees are illegal? Do you know something the rest of us don't? Why would Ibby's employees be illegal and not Mamoun's? You sound like a racist arse. I Was KIDDING with ya about meeting with ya and flirting. You ought to get your lady to give ya some lovin thou. You sound like you could use some stress release.

No one has ever whistled at me or me them at Ibby's, btw ...I smile and wink and they smile and wink back.

Hopefully one day when you have kids they will marry an "Illegal Alien". Is this the 1940s? Jeez.

Hu Beachguy??? (are you and user1111 the same person?) I never said Ibby's was better or worse than any place in my previous post. I simply stated that I had never had a bad experience there. I LOVE Mamoun's (I like the food more than Ibby's for sure), although I still think the ones in the city are somehow better than the one in Hoboken. Everyone's experiences in life in general are different, and especially when it comes to food. Some folks hate the Taqueria because of the attitudes of the folks who own it and work there, others have never had a problem with the owners and or workers.

OHHH and YES, I love to flirt. Wanna meet for a drink so I can flirt with you, sugar? Why you gotta be mean? Me thinks ya need some Texas lovin :) And, I'm not a shep, I'm a lady.

Yuppie? Does that make you ghetto trash since you live in Greenville? I'm guessing working class, just like me. I'm working class trash, sugar. Get your facts straight. Moved here from Houston, never lived a day of my live in the amazing NYC. Would if I could afford to, and or worked there though.

I love the guys at Ibby's. I have been eating there for the almost 8 years I have lived in JC and have NEVER had them be anything but nice to me. I have read complaints on here before about the employees at Ibby's, but this has NEVER been my experience. They say hello, smile, and if I flirt, well they tolerate me and giggle. I am from Texas, and when I first moved to Jersey I was appalled that so few folks said please and thank you (I later realized that it is a cultural or regional difference)...I still say it to everyone and the folks at Ibby's say it back. Sorry you have had a different experience.

If you want truly nice restaurant employees, go to Taqueria Viva Mexico in Paulus Hook, those guys are so super nice. They make the food how you want it and always with a smile. And even better, he food is really great and they have a lot of options for pescaterians like me.

MooseMan, I gave you the name of a realtor...I'm not doing your work for you. If I had as much money as you do for rent, there is no way I'd live on this side of the river. Stay in NYC like blockwatcher said. I second all his reasons. IF you are just looking for a cheap place to sleep JC is fine...but you can only eat at the same ok restaurants so many times.

Highrises aren't your only option in JC....but if that is what you want fine. You will have to look hard to find places that don't have bedbugs and paper thin walls in your price range. Give Marcia Langley, a great relator, a call. 201-962-8922Quote:

You should always check out an area FOR YOURSELF at night before you decide if you want to consider living there or not. After you have seen the area for yourself at night, then come back and ask questions.

KDB, from where did you pull those numbers? How do you know that, "80% of rentals are represented by an agency/broker". I don't know a single renter in JC who has paid a brokers fee. I have lived here 6.5 years in 3 different apartment and have never paid a fee.
Quote:

KDB wrote:
Instead of being frustrated, choose a broker before you begin your search and make them EARN your money.

80% of rentals are represented by an agency/broker, hence whether you use your own broker or not, you will pay the full
FEE, but you'll do ALL the work. If you use a broker, they will do the work and the fee will be split 50/50 bet. the two parties.

When you're searching by yourself, be aware, if an advert has no address, it's the agent looking for clients. This is the worse way to find a broker. Get referrals and interview a few people. And make them work for you.

I went to the new pool 4 times in the first month it was open, all during the week and all during the afternoon....it was an overcrowded NIGHTMARE. I never went back. Guess many others reacted as I did, either that or the cooler temperatures have kept folks away.

Texas has the death penalty, and it also has one of the highest violent crime rates. The death penalty does not reduce crime over the long term. Many of the 37 states which have the death penalty are also the states with the highest rates of crime, violent and otherwise. These lowlifes and their parents should be sterilized at the least :)
