That's Tony aka the Fisherman. He's been on the streets for years. You're not likely to be the one to convince him to do otherwise. He's a sad case but not a danger to himself or others generally, so legally it's his right to live on the streets. I'm not saying that's the right thing but that's the reality.

That is just the best.

"Healy, admittedly drunk, says he walked out to his front porch, wearing nothing but a towel. Then, Healy said, the girls pulled the towel off him.

?Now I start laughing and then they started doing other stuff,? Healy said, according to New Jersey Star-Ledger. ?I say I?m old enough to be your grandfather.?

Last winter, when my wife took our dog for a walk very early morning, Crazy Tony was sleeping in the entrance of our building. It was very cold at the time, so she said it's okay for him to stay there.

By the way, my dog loves homeless people (probably because they smell interesting).

to be fair, a preponderence of the commentary on this site is really distateful.. so, this thread is really just par for the course.

I thought the Gorton's Fisherman and the Hardhat Guy were the same person. He had a cool St. Patrick's day hat on in March.

There's been a preaching guitarist hanging out on Newark Ave around Coles-ish recently. Mostly harmless but I once caught him berating a couple of lesbians and telling them they'd go to hell.

Yeah, Tony is still around. He's got a couple places he hangs out at. The guys at Buon Appitito and Nicoles help him out with food from time to time.

I like the guy under the highway underpass at Grand. Sometimes he dresses like Rene Magritte and carries a sign: Ceci n'est pas DTJC, other times he dresses like Dante and his sign says: Abandon All Hope You Who Enter Here.

1. Ever since I first moved to JC in 2006, I saw the tall black guy asking for change around A1 Deli and Lee's. Haven't seen him in probably a few months, at least.

2. Gordons Fisherman - is this guy out of the area? I have seen him also since my early days in JC, but not any time recently.

3. Hardhat guy - this guy is a little nerve-wracking. His mutterings are entirely nonsensical - I've seen him dip into lucid moments briefly (shopping at P&K Grocery) and then go into complete hysteria.

4. Recently I've noticed a guy who hangs around and associates with people both in and around the vicinity of Caroline's Laundromat. About 60 I'd say, wears a Mets cap. Caucasian but speaks fluent Spanish. Seems to have a heck of a personality, because when he gets the ear of somebody on a street corner he has them there for a few minutes, and the audience becomes all smiles. Not a "weirdo" at all really, but a local character and I'd love to know if anybody knows his deal.

Weird, eh. Awesome, Yes. I wish we had this kind of entertainment on every train, bus and cab in JC.

On the PATH train from WTC to Newark, there is a guy who shouts instructions about the train, next station, watch out for closing doors, transfers, etc. I think he gets off at Grove and has an id badge hanging from his neck. The 'service' he provides I'm sure helps new comers, but can get annoying at times, if you are stuck in the same car as him on the train.

At the corner of Newark and Barrow, there is a table set out to sell belts, hats, etc. One of the tall guys is always wearing a pimped out suit and hat. He's just a wannabe pimp imo.

After the blizzard in December, Hardhat guy cleared all of the ice from the corner sewers at 4th and Jersey. He seems to want to be useful.

I had a reasonably normal conversation with him near a construction site in Paulus Hook. He told me (declared loudly) that the ground is contaminated and they should not be building new structures until 10 feet of soil is removed and carted away; he may be on to something.

He can be pretty scary to people unfamiliar with his routine. Seriously, I hope that someday he is prescribed the correct meds and gets some counselling.

the old shouty hardhat-wearing guy near the Grove Street PATH is usually a font of useful knowledge, like "road closed ahead" and "world's gonna end tomorrow."
