Does anybody use the CooCoo texting feature? I use it if it's after 11 pm or so, so I can figure out the exact time to go underground. Lately, when I text CooCoo with my station to station request, I get bizarre times that are not even close to what time it currently is. Anybody else experience that?

That?s only partially true. In my 3,500+ trips across the Hudson in the past seven years, PATH?s reliability and consistency has been exemplary, but I use the system most frequently during the secret windows of time when it experiences the fewest number of glitches and delays. Unfortunately, young Caucasians who don?t speak Spanish and who typically commute outside of these undisclosed magic hours, tend to suffer the worst of PATH.

Lack of accountability is inherent with the PATH. They don't care about their customers and do a dismal job with communications.

Wouldja look at that. a 1200+ word post that includes photographs, detailed info about the service changes and multiple maps.
Hm, let's check the Path website to find information about the new schedule... what new schedule? There's nothing posted there, what a shock! Quote:

Think the Port Authority would do anything remotely close to this? An attempt at actually providing communication and explaining what's going on?
Maybe after the current corrupt leaders retire with their million dollar severance+benefits packages and a new (probably just as connected) Chief Exec pledges for change. http://web.mta.info/nyct/service/R_14 ... MontagueTunnelClosure.htm

One of many articles about it - The MTA will close the Montague tube, along with partial closures of the Greenpoint tube on the G train line between Brooklyn and Queens, in order to make repairs that would have taken years if done in the MTA?s normal weekend and nighttime work shifts, officials said. The agency will post staff to monitor station crowding when the outage begins, expected in August, Mr. Bianco said. The R train will run on weekdays from Court Street south into the rest of Brooklyn, and from Whitehall Street north through Manhattan and Queens. As I said, you can transfer at Court and Jay Streets, to one of 7 other lines that run from there into Manhattan. At most this transfer may add another 10 minutes to their commute - what part of my understanding was wrong? Unless you're referring people that would stay on for the Manhattan Rector or Cortland stops on the R (which no other train makes)...? The Wall St. 4 and 5 stop is just 2 blocks from Rector, and the Fulton 4/5 stop is about the same distance from Cortland - I'm not sure what's so bad here...? The only ones I can see that might have a beef would be those that would stay on the R to mid/uptown, and now will have to get off the R at Court, then take the 4/5 into Manhattan, walk the 2 blocks, and get back on the R - but even then, that's just 3 trains. Regardless, at least there are viable alternatives, compared to the mess that we had to deal with when Sandy rendered the PATH useless.

Your understanding is wrong. Try telling that to the residents of Bay Ridge and Sunset Park who now have no other options and are stuck with commutes of well over an hour to get to Manhattan now. Bottom line is the majority of this board continues to act as if the MTA is God, and PATH is the devil, without actually realizing how much damage was really sustained by Sandy in the MTA and PATH tunnels. We were lucky to have both the 33rd and WTC lines back as quickly as we did, because we could easily be in the same situation as the R Train riders.

True enough, but it does give you a sense of what happened to the PATH, and with no alternative tunnels to use of course the impact to the riders is going to be greater. I'm willing to give them some slack for having to reduce service a bit to do the repairs. I'm not willing to give them any slack for their complete inability to communicate.

I didn't get a sense of how much damage the tunnel sustained until I read that article, which made be thankful. Yes, I knew things were bad...but I think I underestimated. call me simple minded, but hey....

My understanding is that the R will run in Brooklyn and in Manhattan, just not under the East River (so it won't connect the 2 boroughs). The 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, and F trains are all in the BK Borough Hall/Jay St/Metrotech 2-block radius, so really, this isn't that bad an inconvenience - it just means a transfer and maybe a walk of a few blocks.

Had to endure new schedule this weekend but was smart about it and read the schedule first so I wouldn't have to wait, something I used to not care about when trains were more frequent. The train I was on stalled due to signal problems and I was held on the train between stations for 20 minutes.

As much as I like to complain about the Port Authority, I am happy we will not have to endure a year without the tunnels as will people using the R train in Manhattan, Brooklyn.

The PA never wanted to take over the old H&M railroad. They did it only because it was required in order to get permission to build the first WTC.
Maybe NJTransit or some other entity should take over operation of the PATH?

More PATH service on Christmas, Thanksgiving, than Sundays
In a twist that's indicative of the extent to which they've gutted Sunday service, trains will run more frequently on Christmas and Thanksgiving than they do on every Sunday of the year.. That's because holidays get the much more reasonable Saturday schedule. That's good for travel on holidays, and necessary, but is yet another sign that they've badly butchered Sunday service. 35-minute frequency DOES NOT WORK.

i, too, took the train today from newport to 23rd. they were at 8:27, 9:02 and 9:37. just a nice giant fk you to those of us that work on a sunday - and yes, obviously the trains were crowded and standing room only. hell, it was standing room only on the 6:30 out of 33rd street - i got out of work at a time convenient to catch the train uptown first to ensure that I got a set - every seat was gone before the train left 33rd.

Did I really read this right? This can't be real.
Restoration and recovery alone is estimated to cost $1.3 billion. Come on now. ONE POINT THREE BILLION? With a "B" I don't think so. The PATH has like one signal repair person on stand by. Something else is going on here. More funds diverted to the Freedom Tower I suppose. F

I agree, the lack of communication is clearly an issue. PA clearly does not run PATH as other professionally managed public transportation systems. I have been riding PATH for the past 7 years, so I am willing to be patient while they make the service upgrades that will result in better service in the future.
