Is anyone else a little nervous about 5 new restaurants - each with a liquor license - opening on one short block?

While I'm psyched that vacant buildings are getting filled, especially on the south side of Newark, I genuinely fear that our anticipated Restaurant Row will in fact be Bro Row, with a decidedly Hoboken-like vibe.

I really hope these fears are unfounded.

Only time will tell. Being that most of these new establishments are restaurants that serve alcohol and not exclusively bars, hopefully that won't happen. Monty's might be the only place on Newark that I can picture being a potential bro-bar, but since it's never going to open it may not be that big a deal.

It won't.

People from Hoboken would rather kill themselves to hang out in JC, people from NYC don't realize Jersey City exists, and people in NJ still think Jersey City is a dangerous shit hole.

Newark Avenue along that stretch was shit for traffic anyway. Between the assholes pulled up on the sidewalk, or parked on the eastbound side, and the double parking on the right, it was a nightmare to navigate safely. Then that right turn at Grove was very dangerous with shits making unsafe maneuvers around pedestrians and other cars to get one car length ahead. As a guy who rides a motorcycle, I cringed when I would go down that stretch of road, and would purposefully avoid it. The safety factor alone makes it a good idea. Those people being supposedly inconvenienced now were very often being very unsafe anyway.

Finally someone with some actual perspective.

There are always at least 4 cars double parked in front of the doctors, pharmacy and eyeglass store every day.

Then people double parked all up the right side to pick up their kids from karate.

Then when people have to make a right onto grove from newark and it gets backed up I've literally seen people pass on the left into the oncoming lane to get around.

So where do you put the traffic? Saying it needs to be re-routed does not answer the question. More development is slated for that area which means more people and more cars. Yes, in the year 2014, people do have cars.

Having a car in Jersey City is a luxury not a necessity.

The fact you can afford the insurance and car payments while living here and still bitch about parking and traffic is quite annoying.

You're complaining about closing a 100 yards of street with no cross streets.

I would think Hoboken would be Six and JC would be Seven?

Or maybe Weehawken can be Eight?

I feel West New York would be a better a candidate for Sixth Borough since it already has New York in the name. We know NYCers don't want anything with Jersey in the name having any association with their city.

The average person doesn't go there. It's all 20 somethings who binge drink every weekend.

So they probably drink 8-10 drinks a night and get charged for 14-16 without knowing cause they are so wasted.

Do yourself a favor and avoid that place like the plague.

Stopped by there today.

I'm not sure what the above dudes are talking about but they have every beer in stock that they have listed on their site (and some that aren't even listed).

They have a few more obscure ones I haven't seen before.

They have a good liquor selection, wines and all kinds reading materials.

The best part is that if you are a home brewer this place is a gem. It's amazing. The time and effort they spent into setting up the back room is impressive.

They told me they plan on having classes when it warms out and growler service at some point.

They only negative is that I don't live closer. I wish them the best of luck.
