It's also a model that was designed for indoor use only.

Gotta love the ol' PA...

I always wondered if those were indoor escalators exposed to rain and cold. that explains the constant need for repairs. another brilliant investment by PA.

It always amazes me when PATH closes an escalator, but doesn't let anyone use it as a staircase. Its not an elevator. It will still work as a stairwell.

That?s true, but the parallel lines that make up escalator tread surfaces can interfere with depth perception. Long escalators also do not have code-mandated intermediate landings.

Instead of "Thank you for riding the PATH" led lights, they should have "Sorry that you have chosen to ride the PATH"

I think the humor will actually help.

First, on the platform, there was an announcement of signal problems creating delays. Then the 33rd St train arrived and we took off. For maybe 1 minute. And then we sat for 20, during which time there were several announcements about signal troubles uptown that they were trying to fix. Finally, the conductor announced that they were unable to fix the signal problems, so they were turning us back around.

The escalator incident made CNN.
I love the annoying woman wailing at the end.

PATH just arrived the wrong way at Grove Street and dumped off a bunch of passengers who were en route to Midtown -- service is suspended for now. I get home to find not a single PATHalert email in my inbox. How worthless.

Sort of reminds me of that really bad Stephen King movie 'Maximum Overdrive' where all the machines start killing people.

Escalator suddenly changed directions during rush hour. Instead of going up it suddenly went down at a very fast pace.

Haha, I saw this on the internet. Not sure what station it was in.

Some NSFW language.

According to NJ.com, "A wooden plank on the tracks or under the platform caught fire shortly before 6 p.m. and transit was halted, said Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Ron Marsico."

Of course litter could have been the tinder.

I realize there are people who litter when they can?t find a trash can?and if we want them to stop there's little choice but to do their thinking for them?but MTA experienced track fires when there were cans in every station.

It?s doubtful a cleaning regimen that is 100% effective would be practical, but the tracks are obviously vacuumed on a very regular basis. Taking a wild-ass guess myself, there are enough classless litterers among us that the tracks would quickly be deep under confetti otherwise.

They removed the trash cans so the receptacles do not act as reservoirs for decedent materials.

I'm very happy with CooCoo. It comes as an iPhone app, I believe as an android app, and you can text to it if you don't have a smartphone.

For those of you who want to check the path schedule on their iPhones, there is an app called PATHWay Schedule/Map and its nice.
