1. Park in the mall parking (LITERALLY at the base of the Embankment) for really a nominal fee .. 3 hours for $3.50. 2. Take the PATH & walk. (eek! Exercise!!) 3. Take the Lightrail & take a short walk (again exercise!) 4. Don't go Please, I beg you to show me an example of an urban historic city with unlimited free parking. Quote:

I would love to see Sixth Street turned into a light rail line, with the park running alongside it.
no parking needed to visit the park then.

Ignoring for a moment how ridiculous of a reason this is for opposing this project- as someone who lives on 6th street you would be surprised how relatively easy it is to find parking along the embankment (as these blocks have half as many residences as a normal block would).

Wow, the truth hurts. But what I state is true, it is only for people who live nearby but everyone will have to pay the cost. The true cost is hidden. It is one of the things that even Councilman Yun has stated. The bonding cost is one of the things that must be paid. This year that cost is $72 million, twenty years ago, it was between $20 to $25 million. Taxes will go up due to debt. Let's hear the real fact, not the glossy words.

If Yvonne had her way half of Van Vorst, Morris Canal, Enos Jones, and Hamilton parks would all be leveled to add parking spaces. What's the point of having those parks if there's no parking?
God forbid people have a little green space in their neighborhoods.

Here is a nice PBS show that just aired:
10 Parks that Changed America Click link below: http://www.pbs.org/video/2365709474/ If you are in a hurry -- NYC's High Line Park is featured at the 48min mark.

How do the people from Greenville or the Heights get to use that public space when there is no parking? It is basically for people are are close by.

Im sure there is a thread on this already but currently a long legal battle is ongoing regarding the future of the embankment.

They don't actually want a rail line. They're using it to put pressure on the owner, and bolster the city's legal case. The goal is to turn the Embankment into a park.

How about something like this, if there is to be a surface rail link - http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/ ... l-take-the-streetcar.html It could run up Palisades or Central Avenue, linking the Heights to the Hamilton Park & Paulus Hook areas.

The Hymans probably wrote off the tax sale loss on the properties against their federal taxes. The City should had over the file to the IRS - it has the distinct smell of tax evasion.

Can any insiders provide an update on the Embankment? Are we any closer to this becoming a park than we were 6 months ago?

I absolutely agree about the snow and trees, in fact when Vega was still Council-President, I complained about the embankment poor condition. Previously, on another thread, I spoke how I received a summons from the city for not removing the snow, luckily, the summons had a picture which was not my property. But I am bringing up the payments of property taxes because I have not seen the property listed in the tax lien sale advertisement. If Hyman is paying the taxes, then the city is saying he or his wife owns the property.

Or tend to the tree growth that led to a tree falling down on the sidewalk of Erie St. That could have killed someone.

He certainly doesn't shovel the snow off the sidewalks around "his" property. I have always wondered if he gets fined for that. The city did make a half hearted attempt to clear it once or twice last year after community complaints.

I would like to know if Hyman receives a tax bill for the property. If he doesn't, then I agree with you Joshua.

The sale was invalid.
Hyman doesn't own the land. Like the Black Knight in Monty Python's Holy Grail, and the Arab Nations after the six day war, Hyman goes down as someone who believes he can demand MORE after losing.

A lot of the waterfront land that went for millions was also toxic. A lot of people sell their homes are then faced with the prospect of removing the oil tank and any oil that went into the land. The city could use that argument, but I believe Hyman could show land sales, including the one I pointed out with Peter Mocco that went for millions.
