New Spanish Restaurant Replaces The Music Box

A new Spanish restaurant is opening today on the corner of Monmouth and 7th in the former Music Box space at 322 1/2 7th Street.

After having been closed and reopened a few times, The Music Box (later, the New Music Box), a local neighborhood bar, shut down permanently late last year. It seems as though the space is owned by the same family, but has been rented out to new tenants who are opening up a casual Spanish restaurant that will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is some seating inside and it's a fairly large space, but they anticipate doing more take-out then eat-in. As of yesterday, no official name or sign was posted.

They'll be open today from 7am-7pm with a limited menu to start with and plan to slowly expand over the next couple of weeks.

I had to be up early for work this same morning, I was out th door at 5:30 so just a couple of hours after the robbery, and on Broadway and Romaine (near Tonnale) was a car UP ON BLOCKS! Passenger side window busted, the lug nuts lying on the street. Its dead at 3:00 AM on Broadway but still, this is a rather brazen crime on a well lit street. And its just a couple blocks over from the alleyway where the guys got robbed. I would say this is a LOT of crime for this area, all in the same night. I have only seen one other car on block in the last ten years, and that was in Hoboken.

Many years ago, I passed by the construction of Liberty Harbor North, there was protest outside the construction with an inflated rat in front. So I asked the protesters what was the concerned. The guy pointed to a man in a lift who was not wearing a harness. These were union workers who were protesting but they complained developers hire basically undocumented workers who do not know the law and take risks. The protester said they planned on notifying OSHA. I later spoke before the city council about workers in lifts without harness and was told this is not the city's concern, this is the state's concern. It is a shame someone dies because of who is in charge.

Pointing fingers already when no information about what caused the accident has been released?

PA police don?t appear heavily focused on catching and punishing individuals who attempt to beat the fare, so the pattern of enforcement doesn't seem all that different.

one day soon, i hope, there will be drones that identify (via massive image bank) and fine lawbreakers (people who speed, don't stop at red lights or stop signs and don't pay tolls).

We already did away with red light cameras... and you want red light drones?

Ignoring for a moment how ridiculous of a reason this is for opposing this project- as someone who lives on 6th street you would be surprised how relatively easy it is to find parking along the embankment (as these blocks have half as many residences as a normal block would).

A pedestrian bridge would be good, but for now, I do hope developers and/or the city will extend the bike cum pedestrian lane coming from the 2nd St HBLR stop that ends abruptly by Coles and 18th Street. Coles St from 18th Street to 10th St is the best way to avoid the tunnel traffic and I take it frequently on foot and by bike but not after dark since the "underpass" is a bit sketchy, to put it mildly.

Eh... I do that walk at night quite frequently. While it is not a very esthetically pleasing walk, the worst thing you will encounter will be a homeless person sleeping, or a parked cabdriver getting a BJ. Or I guess, you could encounter me drunkenly walking home.

Excellent choice. Should also be noted that it is cash only. While there is a liquor store right around the corner for the BYOB, trusting that their ATM is working is risky.

While I'm certainly not in favor of this proposal, I'm not sure where you are getting "Middle" of Liberty State Park from. The links you posted indicate the same undeveloped area south of the park that has been repeatedly discussed as the site for such a project.

I'm not sure if you are thinking of the same lot. The stairs here run parallel to the outer wall up to the second floor. The first floor appears to be a garage. The second floor has very high ceilings and looks like it will have very large bay windows. They are working on the third floor now and it looks to be much lower ceilings than the second. Very odd looking.

They were pouring concrete yesterday so hopefully they are back to work. As much as I won't enjoy the noise right next store to me I am sick of looking at the ugly hole in the ground and the barriers surrounding the corner.

Isn't this Michael Shurin/realjerseycity.com you keep pushing created and funded by the developed Steve Hyman who wants to turn the embankment into condos? The same Steve Hyman who has developed a personal vendetta against the city officials who have opposed him? I'm sure they are impartial and have no bias in their reporting! Come to think of it, you and Stevey boy would make a great couple!

Yup...

Its probably less than a 15min walk to Newport PATH, and you can grab the 126 right on the park (although admittedly limited service)
