Can anyone confirm that the WTC line is running this weekend? Call me crazy, but I don't entirely trust PATHalerts....

I've never seen anything about an existing platform or station there.

There was another thread here that had discussion about a possible Marion station near Westside Ave., and there were a couple of items about whether a station could be added near Brunswick or Cornelison.

If you research PATH history, you'll find that there were formerly stops at 19th St. and 28th St. You can still see the platform at 19th St.

You are thinking of the stupid idea of putting a station in the Marion neighborhood. It is an idea championed by the likes of Yvonne and Healy, who lack logic and brain power to see that trying to implement THAT would be a distraction from actual improvements to the rest of the PATH system.

Here is the thread:

Odds are slim, but given how goddamn incompetent the PA is, anyone think they suspend the 33rd line before they reopen the WTC line on weekends?

Surely, they can't be THAT stupid. Right? RIGHT? Sh*t, I probably just gave them an idea.

Is there word or confirmation if/when the WTC weekend service will be back? We've almost at the end of November, and I haven't seen anything.

Is it going to be back the 1st weekend of Jan 2015, or is it "Sometime" early 2015 (which may mean "anytime" 2015)?

11/19- Due to maintenance activity short trains will operate JSQ-33(HOB) 1:30am-5am. Expect additional passenger congestion.

Just wonderful. It doesn't make much sense to me how maintenance work would be helped by running shorter trains -- as opposed to running trains even less frequently than they do overnight.

And then we can certainly "expect additional passenger congestion" when 2015 rolls around and they start de-salination work on the uptown tubes. That will be fun.

They might be doing some work at the end of a platform? At least they're announcing this in advance, there have been times I've had to run for short trains with no warning.

That was a cute story / conspiracy theory. The bottom line is that the extension has been talked about for at least a decade, even before Christie came to power. While its not necessarily critical to Jersey City, its an important part of expanding PATH service and redeveloping Newark, which means it should be a priority for New Jersey. Even just one new station in Newark -- although there has been talk of adding a PATH station between the airport and Penn Station -- would radically alter the prospects of Newark's redevelopment program. And as prices in cities, especially Jersey City, continue to rise, adding more transit accessible land will be critical to the economic survival of the state. The airport extension, even in the best case scenario is 10 to 20 years out, which is just about the the ideal time to start expanding Newark's nascent redevelopment.

Forget the EWR service.

Is there a petition or something that is out there that is addressing this? I am sure we can get a lot of signatures thru this medium and all other online forums.

It'll be better than just bitching about it on this forum.

Did anyone really think the EWR PATH connection was ever really going to happen? It was just a ploy to divert attention and throw a few bucks to consultants. The PA can't get out of its own way, they aren't going to build a multi-billion, unnecessary, money-losing train line.

Did you see the PATH alert that this Sunday that the JSQ-33 via HOB train will be on a 20 minutes schedule until 3pm? Really? Since they went to a 12 minute schedule, people are being left behind at the stations because there is no room. Really PATH???? You increase fares and then keep dropping service. #PATHetic

I agree, the idea of an extension to EWR is/was a terrible prospect for JC residents. Handy the half dozen times a year that we are heading to the airport but absolutely making our commutes a misery with New Yorkers and tourists likely to overrun the trains the other 360 days of the year.

The fact that Fulop supported the notion when it would be a boon to non residents at the expense of JCitizens is quite insulting imo... Let's hope this is the end to the debacle.

Great news. And a great article.

With all of the work the PATH needs, including additional infrastructure to support the 30,000+ new residents after the new construction is completed, spending $1.5 billion+ on such a frivolous endeavor was truly absurd.

Not to mention that the already overcrowded trains would get even worse with more people bringing their luggage on the PATH. No thanks.

I don't think MTA service from Brooklyn at times is much better.....I guess if things are too terrible here, there always is Bayonne or Staten Island :)

JSQ - 33rd is being slowed down to 12 minutes from 10 minutes
NWK - JSQ is being slowed down from 10-15 minutes all the way to 20 minutes.

So yeah, more cuts to service. I expect by this time next year they will just shut the entire system down and put locks on the entrance. But you will have to pay $5 to look at the entranceway.

edit: actually, it's not clear if this is just for weekends, or weekdays too? I think it's just weekends, in which case it might be a service increase? Someone needs to grab one of the actual physical schedules in the station and report back.

I think it's just Sundays, in which case it is an increase in service, bringing Sunday service in line with Saturday. I checked the pamphlets in the WTC station today, but of course they are not updated.

So PATH riders are now paying more than MTA riders all while getting less service. Sweet merciful crap!

Increasing the frequency? Puh-leeze. It'll probably be a cold day in hell before that happened!

Seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually cut service.

I can't figure it out either. This helpful message is on the PATH website:

Quote:
10/24/2014 1:50:07 PM
Starting 10/26 new train schedules will be in effect. New Timetables are in literature racks at all stations, or visit www.panynj.gov/path

So to find out the schedule, it tells me to go to the PATH website, where it just tells me to go to the PATH website? The schedules page is effective January 2014.

http://www.panynj.gov/path/full-schedules.html

So...I have no idea.
