BOIL WATER ADVISORY LIFTED
Jersey City, NJ, Dec 19, 2013, 8:20pm

United Water and the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) announced that the boil water advisory has been lifted in the downtown area of Jersey City and the portion of Bergen Lafayette area that was affected. The advisory was issued on Wednesday, December 18 following a water main break in the area.

?We understand that a boil water advisory disrupts daily routines. We apologize for the inconvenience while we were working to confirm the quality of the water,? said Chris Riat, senior director of New Jersey contract operations for United Water.

?Laboratory test results show that the drinking water quality meets all regulatory requirements,? said Daniel Becht, executive director of the JCMUA. These results were submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) for verification. Upon reviewing the laboratory data, NJDEP has confirmed that it is no longer necessary for these customers to boil their water.

The following measures are recommended at this time:
? Run water faucets for 3-5 minutes to flush the service connection and interior plumbing
? Empty and clean automatic ice makers and water chillers
? Drain and refill hot water heaters if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit
? Run water softener/cartridge filters through a regeneration cycle or other procedures recommended by the product manufacturer.

What would it take to replace the entire water infrustructure ? Will new piping throughout the city disrupt the everyday living ?

you gotta wonder how long before a catastrophic water failure given the inability of any politician to take on the antiquated water infrastructure...

Grand Street was clear sailing this morning. I thought it would be backed up. I guess they finished their work.

I bet there will be more breaks during the next few days with temps going into the 60?s.

Digging up all over it seems including Grove near Newark. Might want to run some water while we can. Can't imagine it is going to stay on everywhere while it is getting fixed.

Digging up a new break at Sixth Street right now.
Seems like this is at least the 4th today: Grand, 3rd Street, 5th Street and now 6th.
Were there others?

And it smells like rotten eggs....

On a happy note, didn't you all experience a wonderful sense of community - New Jerseyism - knowing you smelled no better than the other people on the PATH?

It could have blown its way into an old brick sewer. Or it could be in an area with a lot of fill (sand, rocks) giving the water a pathway to flow...

Just an FYI to anyone who may be parked on 3rd between Coles and Monmouth. Apparently they are towing cars to so repairs. So if you happen to be home, go move your car!

That can't be good. Fire and water folks are on the scene, though.

For fucks sake.
