The Lamp Post is my go-to football spot. Nice crew of regular fans. All the games.

Saw a couple of bills fans at lucky sevens last Sunday. They got like a zillion tvs and play every game on. They usually play the sound of whatever local game is playing.

The Shannon in Hoboken used to be the spot for Bills fans:
http://www.hobokenbillsbackers.com/shannon.php

As far as places to watch in JC it has been pretty much covered upthread.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a bar showing out of market NFL games on Sunday? In particular I'm hoping to find some other Buffalo Bills fans, preferably in JC, but willing to go to HOB if there's a specific Bills spot.

Even if it's not specific to the Bills, what's your favorite spot with Sunday Ticket in JC that's willing to put on whatever games are requested?

Best place to watch baseball in downtown JC is definiteLy Harbor Casino. This is definitely an Yankees bar. It also has the Sunday ticket for all you NFL fans. The other good NFL bar would be York street tavern, where they pretty much cater to all NFL fans. I have heard good things about White Star Bar in the Hamilton Square area of JC, but never been there. The best soccer bar in Jersey city is Dorrians, where you will have a good time watching Champions League, World Cup/Euro and EPL games, but they are lacking in La Liga games, especially when the biggest soccer game in the world these days is when Real Madrid play Barcelona, doesn't matter what the circumstance.

this gets mentioned about twice a year it seems. no bar in jc shows the ufc fights, at least not legally.

the story is that there is a local ordinance/law/whatever label is applicable that says establishments have to pay according to their max capacity. as such, a bar that holds 100 people has to pay 5Gs to show a ppv, and that just isn't happening. your best bet is to go into manhattan - i was at playwrights at 35th bet 5th and 6th just a couple blocks from the path.

http://bars.ufc.com/ has a list.

The Cork Screw in Jersey City Heights has around 10 TVs in the bar and each TV has a different sport on. Last week when I was there, I saw race car driving, baseball, and bull riding just to name a few. The bar has a juke box and a pool table. They cook burgers, fries, etc.

The bars in JerseyCity need to do more marketing though.

Does anyone know of a bar that would show the UFC fight tonight? I know it's at Wicked Wolf in Hoboken but I'd rather stay in JC if possible.

I went to O'Hara's on Sunday, apparently they took out some of the Direct TV boxes. It makes for a diminished viewing experience if you are trying to catch simultaneous NFL games. I hope they get the problem rectified in time for next week.

Comcast stopped displaying my cable television channels, as I didn't have a digital cable box, and they can't come by to "install" a new cable box until Saturday.

So...

what's everyone's favorite bar to watch the baseball playoffs?

Some of my old standbys are White Star, York St., and O'Haras. Does anyone have an additional ideas - in particular, are any places advertising any sort of drink specials during the Yankee games?

Would appreciate any tips!! :)

Catain Al's Harbor Casino has the ticket and it's a pretty decent spot to watch the games if you're in the Paulus Hook area. York Street Tavern is always entertaining. Still haven't tried out some of the other places mentioned on this thread just b/c both of these places are really close to me and I don't want to drive anywhere.

BTW, I take back anything positive I said earlier in this thread about a certain NFL football team...

Yes.
The West Village has many fans of the Packers and Oilers!
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Kettle of Fish in the West Village is a Packer bar. Not a long walk from the Christopher stop. You will be surrounded by fellow fans, and hear the sound of your game.

Thank You. That Kettle of Fish bar sounds awesome. For a Packer fan

Any Texas fans watching the game in JC tonight? It's on FSN and unavailable (even to buy PPV) on Comcast.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a site where I can watch it live on the internet?

I'd love to know, too. But being a hockey fan, and based on experience, I just assume that most bars don't show hockey unless you ask and no one there wants to watch basketball. If you find one, let us know and I will do the same.

The pickings are slimmer than in Hoboken, but the good news is that you avoid the Hoboken crowd. Dorrian's (on Washington in Newport) has a bunch of tv's and shows all the football games. York Street Tavern is a bit smaller, but they have a giant screen in back. I have never watched a game at Uno's, but they have a bunch of tv's around the bar. O'Hara's on Marin has the NFL games, as does the Harbor Casino on Essex and Warren.

These are all downtown places and I'm sure there are others downtown and in the Heights, McGinley Square, Greenville, etc, but I cannot vouch for them. Is Pop Merrigan's still hanging around? That had a good combo of dive/sports/pool hall vibe from what I remember.

If you are into wearing your team's jersey and pumping your fist, then Hoboken awaits.

The Hamilton Park Ale House has a bunch of screens and will show any game you request. The wings are good there but everything else is so-so.
