This is sort of off-topic, but does anyone know what the white building with the green door on Columbus between Jersey and Grove is going to be? Looks like it has a garden in the back and a lot of renovations have been going on for the past few months.

The building right near the laundromat? That is the back of the new k9dergarten dog-care.

I'd also be interested to hear what city-owned lots are available to turn into a community garden. Please let me know!

The way I understand it, the public meeting needs to occur before the trees can be removed:

Quote:
While this is a long awaited project, by law the removal of three or more trees must be preceeded by a public meeting pursuant the Open Public Meetings Act. This will require 2 weeks public notice of the meeting.

So it looks like the trees will be gone in about 2 or 3 weeks.

the 'goal' is improve traffic flow and reduce commuting time- no benefits to the residents.

i can only see this causing more people to cut through the downtown streets to get to the holland tunnel. at the expense of pedestrian safety and loss of parking spots on columbus from brunswick all the way to warren.

this really makes no sense at all. all they had to do was repave the street.

according to some discussion on this a couple months ago, they need to take the trees out because they are tearing up the sidewalks & curb extensions to turn christopher columbus into a 5-lane 'highway': 3 lanes going into downtown in the AM rush hour, and 3 lanes going towards the turnpike in the PM rush hour

i'm surprised they couldn't foresee this, knowing that they were going to tear the sidewalks apart.

Tonight's narrow vote did not follow party lines. Republican Baroni voted yes along with six Democrats, while two Democrats, committee chair Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen) and vice chair John Girgenti (D-Passaic), both voted no.

from the nj.com article.

democrats voting no on this bill is an outrage. i know probably everyone here is from hudson county, but people in bergen and passaic counties should be aware of this so they can a) pressure them to change their vote by thursday b) not re-elect these people come election time.

I feel sorry for the car owner that has to clean up a pigeon corpse off of his or her car.

Great picture.

wow, you're very lucky you were around to hear your car alarm!

how long did it take the police to respond? did they wait for him to get on the bus so he couldn't get away easily?

Last night, two people were on Columbus trying to make a left on Monmouth. I was trying to make a right. The first guy could've made the left in front of me, but didn't, so the guy behind him just makes it! LOL Too bad a cop on a motorcycle was right behind me and promptly pulled him over.

The same thing happened to me at the intersection of Columbus and Monmouth, except the first car trying to make the left was yielding to ME as i was crossing over monmouth.

The second car that couldn't wait just pulled out and made the left onto monmouth and didn't bother to wait for me to cross the street.

does anyone know what the parking restrictions will be once this project is completed?

i.e. no parking on the eastbound side from 7am-10am and no parking on the westbound side from 4pm-7pm?
