damn, can we just get one decent restaurant thats not Indian or Fast food? I like Indian, but there needs to be a little variety thats not shitty fast food.

The guy who owns Hooked bought the Journal SQ Pub next to the theater. He said he will be serving food there in a month. I saw the menu and its very cool.

Hi friends! I usually do my taxes at H&R block, but this year my taxes are a little more complicated. I bought a house last year and will have W2s coming from 4 different places. Can anyone recommend a good accountant in town?

Thank you!

Anyone get a sample ballot in the mail? Know where I can find a complete one online?

Looks like the building on Newark ave is finally getting worked on again. They extended the wooden exterior out to the side walk and took out the old cracked Windows above the ground floor.

The hard grove cafe signed it up anymore though. Any idea what's happening there?

I am in total procrastination mode at work so I did some internet research on both spots. Montys Facebook updated in April says "We will be back to work very soon guys. Thank you for all the support and good vibes. =]". The posted some pics and looks like they just finished the floors.

So maybe he isn't trying to sell? Or maybe he wants to finish it and then sell? Either way, construction as been going on since 2013. It's as if they finish one section of the building, take 3 months off, and start on a new section. I wonder what the deal is. Maybe city inspections?

As for Hard Grove Cafe, their Facebook said they were supposed to open last fall. They even had a date for a soft and hard opening. But then whoever owns the lot next door was excavating it and made the hard grove building unsafe. So they canceled their opening and haven't updated their site since. I wonder if there's a legal battle going on between those two properties?

Okay back to work.

Anyone know what's going on with this place? It's been 'coming soon' for a very long time.

And what about the new Hard Grove Cafe? It's hard to tell if they are even working in there.

Re: UBER - car service in Jersey City

I've taken uber a bunch and really like it, but had a really bizarre experience this weekend.

A friend and I ordered an uberX from downtown jc to the Barclays center for the game because of wtc path not working on Sundays. Dude picked us up in a not so nice car but he was real nice so didn't think anything of it. We get just feet past the holland tunnel toll and all traffic is stopped by the police. An officer comes directly to the car and asks the drive, "where are you going?" The driver says, "the tunnel." The cop laughs, says that's a terrible answer then looks in back to us and asks where we are going. We say the nets game.

The cop then proceeds to tell he driver that he is illegally driving us in an uberX car. That he doesn't have the proper insurance or any fire/ health equipment. The cop didn't even check the dudes papers, but he somehow knew it was an uber driver and that he wasn't insured properly.

Anyway, the cop was pretty nice about. Says he understands the dude is trying to make a living and that he won't write him a 3000 dollar plus ticket. He then lets us go and the dude drives us to the game.

Pretty weird!!

I'm downtown and haven't gotten mine yet either. Although, my mail is routinely late. I sometimes get Christmas cards in March.

Their pizza is amazing, their delivery is not. Don't have any issues during a week day but if you order on a Sunday expect to wait forever. Better to just pick it up yourself.

Saw a couple of bills fans at lucky sevens last Sunday. They got like a zillion tvs and play every game on. They usually play the sound of whatever local game is playing.

I like this pedestrian plaza so far but it could be a lot better. All the construction going on makes it look a little messy or dingy, especially at night. Once Porta and the other bars/restaurants open it should look nicer.

Speaking of night, I think it they want the plaza to look more appealing they should consider adding more lighting. They should also consider painting the street a lighter color.

Feel like they've been working this bar forever but the inside never changes. Anyone know when it's supposed to open?

no one is saying get rid of ALL the $0.99 stores. We just don't need 4 of them. And we definitely don't need new ones popping up in the various empty shops.

again, i think the problem is there are too many dollar stores and the like. the best solution that most people can agree on is to keep whatever stores already exist... and then fill out the various empty store fronts, ideally, with non dollars stores/nail salons/cheap electronics.

the biggest problem with newark ave isn't the dollar stores, chicken shops, electronic places etc... its that there are too many of them. One dollar store is enough.

The biggest, biggest, biggest problem though is the empty shops. There are several empty storefronts walking towards the path. Instead of kicking out businesses... we ought to fill those empty storefronts first.
