I highly recommend Mansour Partners on York Street near Exchange Place. I had a very similar situation that involved 6 years of corrective tax work that was required on behalf of one of my parents, and Tim Mansour (the principal of the firm) and his team did a stellar job of straightening things out for me. Good luck!

Hi guys,
Anyone here know of a good local tax advisor/professional. I have a situation where the accounting firm that does the taxes for my father's estate made some mistakes and I might need to redo 3 or years worth of taxes. My taxes have always been pretty straight forward so I have always used turbo tax?

Another vote for John Ng. He's at 121 Newark across from PATH and his phone is 201-360-3981. I came to him with a stack of jumbled documents closer to confetti than to orderly records and he waved a magic wand ver them. Numbers frighten me and I find even the IDEA of doing my taxes causes anxiety. But Mr Ng put me at ease and extracted order from chaos. I wouldn't go to the trouble of writing in on this forum if I didn't think the guy was great. Check his reviews on Yelp too.

Mansour Partners is fantastic and they are conveniently located near Exchange Place. We have used them for years and anyone we refer to them always comes back to thank us for recommending them. Tim Mansour is the principal and is an all-around great person:

Mansour Partners is a TERRIFIC firm. Tim Mansour, the owner, is not only a brilliant advisor, he's also a really good person (which, in my past experiences, is an unusual combination). The office is a block from Exchange Place. Here's the link to the website:

Good luck!

Hello all - I've registered just to post a review to this thread as I found my accountant on here over a year ago. This review is a few months overdue and is written for Chris Johnson of CAJ Tax Solutions (contact details at end).

Chris provided me with truly excellent quality of advice and service, at a fraction of the cost I would have paid at a large firm. He helped me to successfully navigate a complex tax situation, and I unreservedly recommend his tax services to anyone.

My situation, in a simplified nutshell, was that I needed someone to provide tax advice around the potential sale of my apartment in Jersey City. This is not straightforward at the best of times, but it was further complicated by the fact that I no longer resided in the US and was considered a foreign person. I found Chris's contact information on JC list in early 2013, along with contact details for other recommended accountants. I proceeded to email them all with key facts about my situation and some obscure starting questions.

Chris's response was distinctive because it was timely (despite it being peak tax-time) and because he provided an unmatched level of detail in his answers to my initial questions and numerous follow-up questions. This was an introductory contact, yet his answers demonstrated an extraordinary willingness to help before any commitment or payment was made. I immediately decided that I would be using Chris in my US accounting affairs, and we embarked on a journey that culminated a year later. He worked on tax documentation regarding the sale, which was prolonged and complicated, and then on my tax return for 2013 accurately addressing issues that could affect my refund, which was eventually processed smoothly and quickly.

In the time that Chris worked on my case, I always found him to be genuinely interested in securing the best possible outcome for me, and to be honest about what he knew and what he needed time to find out. He consistently demonstrated professional integrity, and an even temperament that helped to allay my fears regarding my tax refund. These qualities, when combined with his knowledgeability and attention to detail, make him a great person to sort out your tax affairs.

Hello. I am actually looking for a tax preparer that would specialize in construction workers. Always went to a large firm in the past and me being small compared to the corporations they handle I just got pAssed off to some junior accountant that didn't even give my return a second look. Plus I am tired of paying more every April in addition to what Uncle Sam already takes.

We've been using John Ng for a few years and have had nothing but good experiences. He has an office right by the Grove St PATH.

Stay away from Sal Grasso in Hoboken.

Is it possible there's no thread on this? Anyway, I couldn't find one.

After messing up my return with Turbo Tax and spending way too many hours doing it myself (with Turbo Tax), I'm ready to bite the bullet. French Connection, or Ed French, in Journal Square, seems to have gathered lots of good reviews on the net. Has anyone used this firm?

Or provide a recommendation? Must be in Jersey City.

Has anyone used Howard Lisch's company for tax preparation? Got his name through a friend, and want to see if anyone has experience.

Thanks in advance...

Also - what's the "market rate" for tax preparation by a CPA / accountant?

I prep the books for my building's non-profit home owners' association and I need a reference for a CPA to prepare the buildings tax return for this year. Any local business owners that have a local CPA to recommend would be greatly appreciated.

I am a licensed accountant in Jersey City and prepare taxes for clients both here and around the country. Take a look at my website,

www.cajtaxsolutions.com

or look in the classified section of this website for my ad. Having worked for the IRS and the State of New Jersey, I am well-versed in the federal and the tri-state area tax laws.

www.lewistaxandaccounting.com Retired IRS auditor. Been using him for a few years. Excellent accountant, very reasonably priced. Found him when I lived in Long Island but does a lot of work in NJ.

I am posting to caution jclisters against using the services of Sal Grasso in Hoboken. We have encountered a stunning level of incompetence in his office and are paying dearly for it. We are 21 months (!!!!!!) into resolving a situation with our 2006 federal and state returns. The response from his office has been less than satisfactory. It also took me less than two seconds to see that they'd screwed up our 2007 return by treating our non-taxable scholarships as taxable income (for a net difference of over $3,000 between what we supposedly owed and were actually due in refunds).

The frustrating thing is that my husband and I make every effort to support local businesses rather than chains. But it's TurboTax or HR Block from here on out!

Can anyone recommend a good accountant in the area? I have some little confusion and still need to file my tax return, so I'd like someone competent.

Is this like everything else and I have to go into the city for good service? Or can I find a good accountant in NJ? Doesn't really matter to me.

This guy is the best. My friend turned me on to him a few years back. His name is Steve DeTitta, he has an office in Union City. He is great and doesn't cost a lot. He owns a bunch of properties in the area and has been in Hudson County for his whoel life.

His number is 201-8638416. Tell him Adam Dahill referred you.

Can anyone recommend a local (Jersey City or Hoboken) CPA who is familiar with depreciation. I bought a 2-family last year intending to rent one floor but have not been able to refinance and thus pay for some basic work that needs to be done before I can rent it. I've heard depreciation deductions can be great but I'd like a CPA who specializes in landlord and real estate matters.
