It always distorts things when you take places with a very small population like Gibraltar and use percentages. if 5 people get covid another 45 ends up getting it that's a 1000% increase, which sounds much worse than it is

JC Covid cases, don't seem to be decreasing that much

I have been checking the daily numbers on the Coronvirus cases in NJ on the following site

https://public.tableau.com/profile/jer ... City/ChristHospitalReport

I have noticed the numbers are just pretty much hold steady for the last three weeks, In fact looks like like just 2 days ago May 12 there was 112 new cases.
So who are these people who are still getting infected? Are a lot of people out and about because I have been pretty much hold in in my apartment the last few weeks and just assumed everyone was lol

Hi guys,
I have a Will document which I generated using WillMaker Plus. I have beneficiaries specified on most of accounts. I just want to make sure things like home equity are handled properly in case something happens. Does anyone know a decent lawyer I can use to finalize it? Also how much should I expect to pay. Thanks

A quick search of Airbnb for a week in November seems to show that significant chunk of listings are in the less gentrified areas of JC where the owners probably could whatever help they can get.

Good times.

.

For every story like this there was probably twenty others where there was no vomit, where local Jersey Airbnb host was able to earn a nice little sum and where Airbnb renters were decent people that didn't cause any issues.
I personally have used Airbnb for all my trips to Honolulu the last few years hand have always managed to get a very clean ,freshly renovated place with parking for 30% less than what a compareable hotel would cost. I am sure Airbnb renters in Jersey city are also able to save some money while allowing the owner to earn a little money.
I am going to be voting no even though this doesn't directly impact me. My condo doesn't allow Airbnb. The way I see it, property owners in JC have been hard twice last year, first with the reval , then with the capping of the the SALT at $10,000. Now the city seems to want to make it harder to earn a little extra from their property.

After hearing over and over again how Branch Brook Park Newark has the most cherry blossom trees even more so than DC, I made it there this past weekend. It was quite disappointing as far as cherry blossoms are concerned. The Park is miles long and the trees are scattered about everywhere. And of course, you don't have the tidal basin and monument type backdrop.

Having said all that it was beautiful Park and the surrounding neighborhoods were really nice. Both my friend were surprised Newark had those kinds of neighborhoods.

Anyone here have any idea of how roughly how much it would cost to build a 2 unit building such as this?

thinking it would probably generate good returns as short term rental / airbnb, if the building itself could be constructed for under half million

Okay...
I personally prefer to apply and common sense and mindfulness to every situation whether as a driver or a pedestrian. However some people l do seem to think that they will be fine as long they apply their simple rules and formulas and declarations. They must the same people that decide to keep walking enter the intersection when a car going 15 miles an hour is only about 30 feet away.

For what it's worth, I am the driver that stop a good 10 15 feet away if I spot a pedestrian waiting to cross the street .

I am not sure how far this , 'the pedestrian can do absolutely no wrong attitude ' the city has adopted since the Fulop administration will take us. There has zero effort to encourage pedestrians to drop unsafe habits like jay walking, standing a good yard or so onto the road while waiting to cross the street.

for just $200 less you can get this one bedroom on a mediocre Park Avenue NYC lol

anyone planning to take this road toward downtown today...don't! Not a grain of salt on it. as a result the road has nice layer of very slippery snow. I saw someone get rear ended I a myself almost hit the Subaru in front me even though I tried to keep a good 100 feet. In sheer desperation I put the car in reverse which slowed it down enough and stopped only 10 feet away . I think I might have damaged my transmission a little since there was this grinding noise.

Thanks everyone,
The 1098s I received for the past few years always had the correct tax amount. I had about $10,000 of mortgage interest so even with the $10,000 SALT limit, it still makes sense for me to itemize.

Hi guys, hoping someone here can shed some light on this. I just got my 1098 from my mortgage company PennyMac. First thing I noticed was box where they put real estate tax. It only had $922 dollar even though thousand more were paid into and out of the escrow account. In fact my property tax bill actually went up quite a bit this year even though I live a building with tax abatement. When I got in touch with PennyMac about correcting this figure here's what they said
Quote:
This year we updated what we report on your Year End Statement to exclude special assessments, and payments for services to or on behalf of your taxing authority such as assessments for side walks, water mains, sewer lines or similar improvements, trash collection, solar power or other electrical improvement loans, or water usage fees. Please note that these types of tax payments are not considered by the IRS to be real property taxes and are not required to be reported.

I am not sure how to deal with this. I use turbotax to do my taxes and obviously my tax refund decreases quite a bit.

I apologize, clearly not my intention to start a political discussion when I started this thread.

Back to the topic, I was thinking may we should have list of JC streets to avoid as soon as it starts snowing:

Here is what I can think of :
Newark Ave -> heading west
Montgomery Street -> heading west between Cornelius and Summit
Secaucus Road -> heading east between Tonnelle and JFK
Manhattan -> Heading west between Tonnelle and JFK

Any more to add?

finally got home .3 hours and 4 minutes to drive 6.5 miles from Secaucus to JC. Don't go up Newark ave if you can help it. People are stuck at the bottom of the hill and some are taking desperate measure's like driving on the sidewalk. Actually don't drive if you don't have too.

Coworker just sent a photo from work . Route 3 is still backed up

Sorry to hear about. I had a string of these kind of skimming incidents about three years ago.

If Exxon is where you get your gas always, best way to pay them to download their speedpass app and do it through your phone. You can activate the pump through the app and pay right through the phone. It's really the only reason why I actually fill up at Exxon.

American diet is just fine. It's just the portions the here. People tend to serve a lot more and eat everything that's served. Even within America, if you go to the rural areas where obesity is more prevalent, portions are far bigger than they are in place like New York City.
Locally, Brownstone Dinner for me an example of place where they serve huge portions and tend to have more obese customers as well.

I think our building we are the total amount we are 1.67% of the purchase price. I have been paying that for the 9 years granted the value has gone up. Recent buyers in my building therefore a probably paying a higher rate than the 1.62% percent city has come up with

So much for this Yvonne lady's constant insinuation that that all the people in the abatement aren't paying taxes and are "unaffected" by this tax increase.

Also, the appraisal value is in my letter is about 5% higher than what similar units have sold for in my building the last few month

By none-ratable, do you mean the buildings with tax abatement? In that case, I don't think it's true that "they are not affected by the new taxes". I live in Liberty harbor which is supposed to have 20 year tax abatement and which I thought meant my taxes were supposed to change for 20 years . I got the similar letter telling me my taxes are going up too.

Can you get them them agree on an "out of the door" price, which should include everything, tax, title, "documentation fee"? Also I think there might be law regarding how much dealers can charge for title and registration. I received a check from my dealer when I went to pick up my license plates because they had charged me too much. As someone mentioned already, preparing to walk away from any unexpected fees will do wonders. My dealer attempted to tack on a $400 detailing fee at final stages and removed it as soon as I got up from the desk.

Best of luck.
