Head to the Heights. Stanleys on Central should suffice. And stop calling it "the hood" it sounds so inner city and gang like.

It would be really sad for me if Europa was closed for good. My family has been getting their homemade Kielbasa and Pierogi there for more than 50 years for the holidays. I hope that they'll be back.

I'm really crushed by the loss of Europa and Lee's Fish Market. What are the chances that similar busineses will open in their place? My guess is slim.

Europa is a niche, but Lee's is the only fish market in the greater downtown area (aside from the supermarkets). Wondering how it failed?

Actually I think if Lee's spruced up the interior and exterior of the store, it'd be a very successful business. A ton of people eat fish and seafood. To just be able to walk down the street to buy fresh fish is a fantastic thing. It will be missed.

a neighbor heard it was closed for good this time which is a downer. THat block is hurting as the Feed Your Soul and Lee's Fish House also seem to be permanently closed. There's also the hardware store which has been vacant for two years. People need to support Made With Love and Jacks or it will be a ghost town over there...

Sorry to see this closed, even if it's just for summer vacation! In Europa's absence, get your fix at Sava Polish Diner on Grove right near PostNet...her meatloaf, pierogies, stuffed chicken, and kielbasa are to die for! (Have I mentioned the homemade apple blintzes? OMG.)

I believe last summer they closed for a few weeks around this time for vacation. Up until last week they had been at Grove Farmers Market. Decent chance they take a couple weeks every year around the same time. Would be surprised as they seem to do a brisk business.

Does anyone know if the polish store EUROPA (two doors over from the fish braids gallery) is closing for good. My husband is from Gorzow Poland, and over the years I have come to love polish deli meats and various other grocery items. I would hate to think I have to start driving to Pulaski in Linden to get groceries. I know they closed for renivations in the spring, but this time it looks permanent.

Maybe they read JCList.

Walked by today and the gates were open, and there was a sign out on the sidewalk mentioning Hot Coffee and 35 Different Kielbasas. I haven't been in there in a while, but I think I'll go back in and check it out, maybe this weekend.

I agree, I'm curious as to why they keep the security gates down all the time. It can't be that much effort to lift them up, and close them at the end of the day? Heck, the neighborhood has gentrified, many businesses don't even have those security gates anymore.

I went in there on Friday afternoon. New manager, same butcher, getting new chef. Sampled one of the polskas and was very tasty. They will be serving coffee soon too. I might even go tonight and pick up some morski cheese!

+1. I think that place would really benefit from a makeover. Maybe someone could sell another spinoff from 'Extreme Makeover'.

I'm going to try this place in the future but I def. agree the front of this place needs a makeover. The gates and that big metal box thing in front of the store make it feel very unwelcoming even somewhat dirty. They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but when you are dealing with selling food perception sometimes becomes reality!

They have a sign outside that says they're re-opening on March 11th.

Sweetie,

You know this is for sure that Europa is closing, and that this is the reason, "they just were not getting enough business to make it! " ?

This is very sad to hear.. sounds like it would be great to save the Deli but with such uniquely made products, I can imagine it's almost near impossible. sucks.

Couldn't agree more. Although supporting Made With Love by eating delicious cookies has exponentially increased the amount of time I have to spend exercising... ;)

Noooooooooooooooooooooo! Booo hooo! I will be very sad to see this place go. I loved the smell of fresh smoked kielbasa wafting down the street in the morning. They really have/had the best varies of sausages.

Sad. Great variety of kiebasas and homemade stuffed cabbage, red cabbage. Kishka wasn't bad either. Also, they just had some nice European brands that are not easy to find. Dang.

The place was here for years even before the great gentrifying renaissance of Downtown J.C. Maybe it was time for retirement. Their babkas were very good I used to get the packaged ones from the Aunt Heddy's Company.

man I really hope that is not the case. Otherwise add it to the list of great, but gone: Janam, Ox, Maximillian, etc.

I can't see how all these good places closing is at all a good sign for downtown JC...

That sucks, their kielbasas were a lot fresher and cheaper then at Sava's.
