I need a lighting technician for a production going up in December. They are harder to find than I thought.

If you or someone you know is knowledgeable, please send them my way ASAP.

The play is A LEGEND OF COMMUNIPAW, and it's going to be amazing!

Re: Smoking in bars and restaurants

OK. I thought it went without saying but maybe not:

Establishments that are officially smoking establishments have a permit from the city that allows smoking at them. If you're interested enough, you can ask the establishment to produce the permit and then you know. It's not grandfathered, it's just a normal part of doing business for some businesses, like Sky Tobacco on Grove Street and any of the many hookah bars around JC.

Now, some may NOT have gotten their permits correctly. But again, it's easy to find that out.

(Waiting to see how long this thread can continue. Maybe we can repeat this self-evident string of sentences a few times more for those growing numbers who, it seems, can't follow a train of thought anymore. And I'm not just talking about this thread or this list

omg, smoking is not allowed in public establishments EXCEPT FOR SMOKING ESTABLISHMENTS! Do you know how many hookah bars there are in Jersey City?!

I am not sure why you would go to a place that advertises smoking as a menu item of the business and then complain that there is smoke, but if you MUST, ask them for their permit and be done with it.

(Aside: It is very odd to see someone online just musing about something you can solve for real in a minute. Life can't be that boring.)

Hi All -
Can anyone tell me what the neighborhood is like? I've heard not so good reports on the lincoln park area as a whole but was just curious if anyone had anymore info??
We are going to look at an condo in this building next week. Amazing condo for very cheap so it leads me to wonder -
is it the neighborhood?
the building?? etc...

Any info appreciated.
Thanks!!

It's not a bad area. Block by block is the best way to check. Walk around West Side Avenue, Bergen Avenue.

I will disagree vehemently with Heights' position that only the Heights and Downtown JC are worthwhile places to live, buy, go, etc. And I am not alone. There is movement, and even a movement , comprised of people who live EVERYWHERE in Jersey City, including the Heights and Downtown, who are done with that. Here's my contribution:http://www.UptownCrew.net We're a nonprofit and part of the change that Jersey City is so ready for.

Uptown Crew presents "My Ancestors Were Beautify," an exhibit of paintings by African American UPtown artist Joe Gilmore. Inspired by the artist's January 2010 trip to West Africa, this moving body of work shows Gilmore's ancestors as dignified and decked out, simply beautiful, such as they were likely never seen during their lives.

Gallery Hours: Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3, 12noon to 6pm

SATURDAY NIGHT - Don't miss the Dancing-On-the-Head-of-a-Pin PARTY with DJ Neva. Refreshments to be hand.

Don't miss it.

Cheers to the arts in ALL THE NEIGHBORHOODS of Jersey City.

Not familiar with the Hopkins block specifically.

I live on Fairmount since 2005, one block from you, on the two-way block on the other side of Bergen. Your building is in a good location for a variety of reasons, including Lucky Fruit and Veg farm on the corner, Lee Sims Chocolates, Raphs Plaza, Imago Salon, Davinci Italian, Pho Bin Vietnamese, Ghabour Middle Eastern grocery, Pasha Middle Eastern cuisine, Guerroro (fresca!) Mexican on Jordan, the long-time residents and the new ones, bus #99S to Port Authority stops around the corner from you on Kennedy Blvd, many historical sites. And I'm leaving stuff out, please don't kill me, y'all.

I LOVE my neighborhood. There are lots of great people in this area.

Keep looking. I'm on Fairmount between Bergen andMonticello. With the razor wire parking lots across the street, it looks rough, but my block is within the McGinley Square SID, it's lit up like a ballfield 24/7 and there is really never any trouble on this block.

You have to check block by block.

Belmont, Emory, all nice. Rents go up north of Montgomery but you can still find deals there too. FYI, I will have a share available on September 1 in a large duplex. PM me if you want more info.

As long as you're uptown, you might as well join the Uptown Crew Facebook group. Connect with other locals, get some uptown entertainment, and you can post what you're looking for.

Agreeing with JerseyCityPower on one point. He really hasn't done anything. Is he the best on the council? Yes. Is he the best we can have? No. I'm still sticking with Levin for Mayor and if Fulop was a team player, he would back him up.

With that said, lets focus not on the validity of what was said in the report, but how Fulop reacted. Threatening to sue media because they published a document? That alone makes me question if it were valid.

And lets not get so upset at McCann. Whether you like Fulop or not, he is an elected official. And whether good your not, they have to be confronted to keep them on their feet. All McCann did was present a police report from some years ago. A report that I guess nobody else confronted Fulop about.

I don't see any post from a "JerseyCityPower". Did the Webmaster delete that post? Why is one poster redacted and not another? Webmaster, I would like to see you add a post in the relevant thread when you delete a post and say why.
