My new favorite way to JFK (and Laguardia) is to take the PATH to 33rd and then jump in a yellow cab. Fare comes to around $35-45, depending on traffic. WAY cheaper than a cab all the way from JC.

I used Lincoln Express for my vacation about 2 weeks ago. Took Lincoln Express one way and the Path/A the other way. Wish I took the Path/A both ways. Its not that Lincoln Express was bad. They were there on time and everything. It was so expensive. With tolls and tip it was like $115. And it took longer than the PATH because of traffic.

From JFK to Manhattan, there is AirTrain JFK to either Howard Beach-JFK Airport or to Jamaica (Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue) $5.50 then the (A) train or (E) train $2.25. At $7.75 each way, that's as inexpensive as you can get.

From Howard Beach-JFK Airport, the (A) provides service to Eighth Avenue via Lower Manhattan with express service beginning at Euclid Avenue. At Jay Street-Borough Hall, there is an across the platform transfer to the (F) for service to Sixth Avenue. At Sutphin Boulevard/Archer the (E) provides service to Eighth Avenue via Midtown (53d Street) with express service in Queens. At Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens, there is a transfer to the (F) for service to Sixth Avenue (via 63d Street); At Lexington Avenue to the (V) for service to Sixth Avenue.

Super Shuttle from JFK to Manhattan would be about $23.00 to Midtown.

You can take the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica station and connect with the NYC subway. It is $5. Then add the cost of the subway from Jamaica to wherever they are going in Manhattan. I know the E train runs from Jamaica not sure which others. I found it very convenient.

Cheapest way I know of is the Airtrain to the A train.

If traffic isnt terrible a taxi is faster and is a flat rate to manhattan, $45 i think.

Sorry if this was already discussed in another thread....

A friend of mine is flying in from Europe to JFK and needs to get to Manhattan from the airport. What's the best and preferably cheapest way to do so? What kind of bus system is set up out of JFK? Can tickets be bought online or maybe it's just easier to buy them when they arrive?

Any help would be appreciated.

You're absolutely right that LIRR to AirTrain is a great way to get to JFK (HopStop says it's 3 minutes faster than taking the A), but (and not to give you a hard time) at $2.50 the subway is cheaper (LIRR fare is $8.00 peak/$5.75 off-peak). ;)

FYI - it's $40 (flat rate) from JFK to World Trade. You could probably convince the cab driver to take you all the way to JC for $80 total (it's not a metered trip so negotiate the price up front). You'll probably need to be able to give directions from the Jersey side of the Holland or Lincoln tunnel. You could also schedule a car service in advance for about the same price ($80-90).

If you need a cheaper option, you can take the subway to the PATH. At JFK, look for the Air Train signs - take Air Train to Howard Beach. Transfer to the A train (subway) heading Uptown (toward Inwood/207th Street). Get off the A train at Chambers Street and look for signs pointing you toward the E train (toward the rear of the train). Head in that direction (you don't want to take the E but you do want to exit the station near the E train entrance). As you come down the ramp toward the E train turnstiles (on your left), you'll see a set of stairs on your right. Come up those stairs and walk straight ahead to the WTC PATH (the entrance is on the left at the end of the block). If you end up coming out a different exit, you'll need to walk around the block to get to the PATH - just ask anyone which way to head for WTC.

Just ask them to take you to WTC path train, they'll know. The trains usually run once every 15 minutes or faster (unless you are traveling after ~7pm on weekends, or after ~11 pm on weekdays.)

If you get on the "Newark" train you can get off on the following JC stops: Exchange Place, Grove Street, Journal Square,

If you get on the "Hoboken" train you can get off on the following JC stops: Exchange Place, Pavonia/Newport

I have seen some posts here - but I wanted to find the following:

Quickest / Cheapest solution from JFK to Jersey City and the return as well. I know EWR would be a much easier commute, however i am coming from BOS and I need a direct flight.

I am not familiar with the PATH system and would not even know where to begin...

If I take a taxi to World Trade Center (which i believe is the best option) what PATH options would I need to arrange?

Thank you for ANY help you can offer!

Kathy

Needed a car in a pinch to get to EWR a few weeks ago. used to call on the fellows at Budget, but a buddy of mine ditched them once, so that bridge is burned.

Anyhow, can't believe I did this, but I called a number that was on a card jammed into my mailbox and it worked out great.

4 hour lead time, GRACIOUS service and a pretty good fare.

Check the guy out... hope he can work some magic for you.

Best way with one piece of luggage is Path - Train - Airtrain. Taxi's going there will be around $80 there, $90 plus on your way back. Remember also at midnight you may be limited to drivers willing to drive to JC.

If $90 for a cab on your way back seems expensive I know people that took a cab to WTC for say $50 then took the Path to JC. If you time it right (getting there around midnight) and get to downtown manhattan around 11:50, 12:20 you should be able to get the 12:00 and 12:30 Path trains respectively (PATH runs every 30 minutes by then). If the timing is right, a 20 minute train ride will be about the same time it takes the taxi to get through the Holland tunnell (also remember there may be construction at night with only one lane open).

Hope this helps.

Has anyone recently had to travel from JFK to Jersey City? I am begruddingly heading out of town this weekend. A friend booked our flights, and I will be landing at JFK around midnight monday night. If I was landing earlier, I would have no problem taking mass transit, but because of the time, and tha fact that I have work at 7:30, I was curious if anyone has taken a cab from JFK home to JC and what kind of price I would be looking at. Also, did you take a yellow cab or a car service.

Thanks.

I took millenium to JFK last week and Carmel back.

Millenium - showed up late in a beat up minivan and tried to charge me $90 after quoting me $80 earlier.

Carmel - Showed up on time in a new Town Car and charged $78.

Carmel - 212 666 6666

Yeah, great, but scooter still needs to get them then from NYC to JC which is another $40 taxi charge which = $85 total one way before luggage charge, extra passenger charges to JC, etc.

I doubt his passengers want to schlep luggage onto the World Trade PATH back here unless their without luggage or utes.

I'm pretty sure there's a fixed rate from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan. $35 I think.I'd get it to World trade and then take the Path.

As I said before:

[quote] BrightMoment on 2008/6/15 19:05:52

One way from JC to JFK runs from $75 at least plus tolls. You're better off renting a suv as was suggested.[/quote

Hi
We're meeting some family from Europe at JFK and were how best to get from there back to JC - just curious if about a cab, or if we should reserve a car service (they're coming through customs so we're not sure of the timing)

We usually fly Newark, so we're not so experienced - any thoughts on price/strategy?

Thanks in advance

Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I have had pretty good luck taking the PATH/A Train to JFK (from Grove). I've actually found it to be about as fast and more convenient than the LIRR.

Yes, the A is 35 minutes vs 20 for the LIRR, but you make up most of that time on the much shorter PATH from WTC vs 33rd. Not to mention that when the weather is bad the walk from Penn to the 33rd PATH, and all the bag-schlepping up and down stairs, sucks. At least with the A you can walk from WTC to Chambers underground, or schlep your bag upstairs to the B'way/Nassau A stop right across from the PATH. And I have found the shorter Howard Beach A-to-AirTrain connection easier then the longer walk at Jamaica.

Of course if I were traveling really late at night I might choose differently.

If you have lots of stuff- you can book a Super Shuttle from the Millenium Hotel across from the World Trade. I usually travel with at least 2 gigantic suitcases over the summer, so schlepping on the AirTrain doesnt work for me. Super Shuttle won't pick me up in JC, so I suffer thru Path to World Trade, where assuming they are working(which they usually are) there are elevators up to the street. Super Shuttle is 19 bucks to JFK and shockingly I have always reached the airport in about an hour from WTC. (even going at noon on a weekday!)

Just another way- tho' I am a big fan of the Path to 33rd- LIRR to Jamaica Air Train. So much better than the subway.

Happy New Year and Many travels to all!

The Newark Penn Station to EWR leg of the trip is where you always get screwed. What I like to do is take the PATH to Newark and then hop into one of the taxis waiting in front of the train station. From there it's usually less than 10 mins to the airport (unless it's rush hour), and a flat fare of $15. Only a bit more than taking the Air Train, but a lot less hassle than dealing with NJ Transit's retarded timetables - especially on weekends - and the super slow monorail at the airport. The taxi will also drop you off right in front of your airline's check-in area.

I have used AAA Taxi several times and they have been great so far. I think the rate is about $65-70 to JFK from downtown JC. www.aaataxiservice.com

Had numerous no-shows in the past with the taxi services mentioned above. I've found King to be the most reliable over the years: 201-798-8100.

I prefer Travel, 201.222.9505 or Millenium, 201.435.4000.
if you're leaving early enough you should be alright getting there but the best and easiest way I think is the path to 33rd, walk over to Penn Station and jump on any train going through Jamaica and switch to the airtrain. I did this trip this past weekend and nailed every train, made great time!

I think they will all charge about $70

Other choices are to take the PATH to Manhattan then take a cab -- $45 plus tolls and tip.

or the cheap thing is to take the PATH to WTC get on the J or Z subway towards Jamaica Queens stop, then take the airtrain -- total cost $8.50 - http://www.panynj.gov/airtrain

I hate going to JFK and I think it is worth it to pay more and fly out of Newark if possible. However I have had many friends who got a "cheap deal" out of JFK and somehow I find myself driving out to drop them off!

Go Early!!!

On the return you should look for shuttle bus service to Manhattan.

I've used A1 Taxi to JFK several times. (201) 222-1200
I think the price quoted was about $70. Their cars are pretty "down n' dirty" but then all the taxis around here seem to be. The biggest problem I have is the anxiety over how much traffic there is between here and JFK and thus how much time to allow. Ask the dispatcher for advice on that.

Are there any proper Car Services around here with Town Cars?
