I hate to be the one to inform you of this, but "professional" and "inexpensive" vary inversely.

There is a certain catch-22 regarding small business or "entrepreneurial" meetups.

People who have been successful starting a business have more demands on their time than hours in the day. They have better things to do than attend a small business or entrepreneurs meetup.

People in love with the idea of becoming an entrepreneur and/or self-identify as a "small business owner" without any meaningful talents or accomplishments love to flock to these things.

I think if customers wanted to use bitcoin, then merchants would use it. I have run a charter boat business out of JC and Weehawken for four years. I would happily accept BTC if one client in four years ever asked if he could remit via virtual currency. It hasn't happened, even though several of our regular customers own large quantities of bitcoin. I don't think think there is much interest in using BTC to purchase regular goods and services - only speculation or when it is required for anonymity reasons.

If the flyovers are training missions which don't cost money not otherwise spent, then they could be done over charity or humanitarian events instead of profitable sporting franchises. The flyovers could also invoice the NFL for the service they provide, the same way that police charge film shoots for traffic detail. Also, all of the land vehicle convoys and uniformed detail are certainly not training enterprises.

I would love to see a real report on how much hosting this event is a net revenue loss for the cities, county, and state.

I've seen a bunch of military helicopter convoys and all of Newport is practically on security lockdown. I can't believe so many agencies are spending so much money on this event. The NFL doesn't even pay taxes. Local restaurants and other venues seem emptier than usual. When I lived in the Heights the North Ward of JCPD informed me regularly they simply didn't have manpower to respond to street violence and gang issues. What a waste of resources.

If you read the article carefully, they are considering leasing the land that is currently used as playgrounds and parking lots for the NYCHA residents. I, for one, find it ridiculous that housing in Manhattan that is meant to be an emergency situation for desperately poor families provides free PARKING and private playgrounds for residents. I also rarely see children in NYCHA playgrounds and agree that these spaces could be better utilized.

Re: Step up in predatory ticketing?

I will certainly concede that JC driving behavior is terrible. I push a stroller most days and what I see is terrifying.

However, I will argue that aggressive ticketing does not change this behavior (look at Hoboken after they privatized enforcement).

Furthermore, we obviously have a limited number of police who work a limited number of hours. The Heights, like most of Jersey City, has seen an increase in crime over the past few years. JCPD seems to have no ability to control vandalism, drug sales, burglary, petty assaults, and general hooliganism. I would put forth that this should take precedent over ticketing petty moving violations. "Broken Windows" certainly does not apply to a family keeping up with traffic on JFK Blvd or parking an out-of-state car in front of their house.

It is sad that I have to pick up female members of my family from Journal Square after dark because it is unsafe for them to walk, yet I can expect a ticket if I roll through a stop sign along the way?

Step up in predatory ticketing?

Has anyone else noticed an increase in tickets being handed out for minor traffic violations?

I know that parking tickets have been outrageous lately. My in-laws with NY plates don't even bring their car into JC anymore and all of my tenants complain (I have a few multifamilies). Out-of-state plates on my block overnight is pretty much a guaranteed ticket for BS reasons.

I was driving north this morning on JFK in the heights and was pulled over and ticketed for doing 40 in what was apparently a 25 zone. I don't deny anything, but I've lived here for 6 years and have never seen a car doing 25 mph on this four lane thoroughfare. The irony was that I was driving my toddler to a park in another town because every single park in the heights is riddled with graffiti and vandalism, courtesy of wonderful policing.

My tenants, employees, and local friends all have similar stories of recent tickets for things like broken lights, rolling through stop signs, etc. - legitimate violations but serve and protect no one beyond the treasury to aggressively ticket. Especially residents with clean records and paperwork.

Anyone else seeing this? I know it'll disappear before the next mayoral election but it is very frustrating - especially when I have good tenants citing it as reasons not to renew a lease.

A few hundred dollars doesn't benefit the city much if they drive their tax base away.

Why wouldn't you want to do this at your house? That way you don't have to drag all the bulky presents home. I've never been to a baby shower at a function hall.

My partner commuted daily on the PATH train up to her delivery week. She was almost never given a seat. She would have to ask loudly for one if she couldn't stand the whole ride.

This has nothing to do with race.

It really does take a certain kind of person to successfully manage rental property long-term. White, black, Spanish, Asian, whoever - needs to have strict accounting and budgetary skills, general know-how, people skills, and sales skills.

People who possess these skills shouldn't need a hand-out to buy their very first investment property.

This makes as much sense as have special programs to help vision-impaired people achieve their dream of being a pilot.
