I really wish that the sale and consumption of marijuana and MDMA profited local stores and community-minded producers and distributors instead of the violent crackhead buffoons who bootleg the stuff under prohibition.

Cops make several arrests for guns and drugs in area known for controlled substances

Saturday, December 17, 2011, 3:00 AM
By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

City police found two guns under the jukebox of a Greenville bar in an incident that led to the arrest of five people and seizure of suspected marijuana and Ecstasy pills on Thursday, officials said.

Officers responded to the area just before midnight on a report of a man with a gun chasing someone and found three men fitting the description walking out of Mr. G?s Bar at Martin Luther King Drive and Warner Avenue, reports said.

When police stopped the group, Anthony Jamall Salley, 25, of Elizabeth, took off running and tossed a bag containing 317 bags of suspected marijuana and 91 pills of suspected Ecstasy, a digital scale and plastic bags, reports said. He was arrested after a struggle and charged with numerous drug offenses and aggravated assault on a police officer, reports said.

Others in the group with Salley returned to Mr. G?s, so the officers went there and saw a partially exposed plastic bag under the jukebox, reports said. Inside the bag police found pills of suspected Ecstasy and when the jukebox was moved, two semiautomatic handguns were found, reports said.

A pat down of those in the bar led to the arrest of Clarence Gaffney, 25, of Lexington Avenue, who was found to have $362 and suspected marijuana hidden in his jacket sleeve, reports said.

Yukita Beale, 31, of Garfield Avenue, was found to be carrying $3,267 in her pants and she gave several contradicting reasons for having so much money, reports said. She finally told police a man outside the bar asked her to hold it for him and she was charged with financial facilitation of criminal activity, reports said, adding that there were four outstanding warrants for her arrest.

Mr. G?s ?is in a known high (drug) trafficking location? and ?the immediate area outside the bar? is known for ?frequent (drug) and firearm complaints and arrests,? reports said.
