Re: Synergy Gym perhaps on the market?

Are any members concerned about the odor downstairs? I am concerned that it might be the result of mold growth, but I am in no way an expert. There sure looks like there has been water damage down there.

Synergy Gym perhaps on the market?

Was at Synergy yesterday where I am a member. Noticed a woman who is not affiliated with the management at the gym, showing three guys around the place, including closets, and non-member areas. Has anyone heard anything? I only recently became a member, and paid for the full year up front, against my better judgement. Was dirt cheap.

Went there Friday after work. All in all, good time. Great location. The beers weren't warm, but weren't as cold as i'd like either. Did not have a problem getting beers though, and food came fast and was all-in-all pretty good. The music situation was a bit off initially, as we were listening to talk radio for the first 20 minutes or so, but then came some Bob and other stuff. Disappointed to hear about the last posters Saturday experience. Hope that is not a sign of things to come.

Did anyone witness Taco's shenanigans on Newark last night. It involved blood, cops, and nudity. Like clockwork, once the weather gets nice, the sightings increase.

Saw a camera crew outside of k9dergartin this morning on Newark avenue. Does anyone know if this will perhaps be where they "work" during filming?

This is true, and even more so in the spring and summer. Most of the trees lining the streets are shorter then the streetlights, so not much light seems to make it to the street at all.

I wonder what the feasability is of one lane of the Holland being closed for a 15 -20 minute window in the morning for bikers to use. For those who take the WTC path, this would be pretty awesome. Could be at work in no time.

Curious if anyone here works/volunteers at Liberty Humane. Read a few stories and heard from a few people about animals acting funny before the quake. Was wondering if they noticed any unusual behavior from the dogs/cats.

I'm pretty sure something was indeed said about their kid. Like I said, not a defense, but the quote is below. And as for the previous posters question, many readers here have not had any of the aforementioned problems at Taqueria. I personally don't care about the lack of guac, and as I find the prices reasonable, I for one do not care if they have it. I am sure some people have had bad experiences at the place. I don't doubt it for a second, but this thread is taking on a very personal nature, and although the owners comment was unnecessary, this thread is overdone. Just don't go there, and leave a review on yelp and move on.

Although not a justification, regarding the post from the owners, people sometimes say or do things out of the ordinary when the defense of their children is involved. Shame on those posters.

I have always had great food and service at Taqueria and will continue to go there. And although I'm sure there are many great Mexican restaurants in Bergen/Union etc, for a non-driving resident, Taqueria is perfect.

Ok so this morning, while I waited for a PATH to WTC, a 33rd Street train came in, and the conductor did the usual shpeal:

"Grove Street. This is a PATH to 33rd Street. Stand clear of the closing doors".

The one big difference, I couldn't help but notice that the female conductor (this was the older model trains so not automated voice) sounded EXACTLY like Maya Angelou.

Can anyone who gets on PATH to 33rd around 7:45 confirm that there is a Maya Angelou sounding conductor?

Renovations on Newark

Can't help but notice a ton of work being done at several vacant store fronts along Newark. Great to see. Besides Barcade and BOX, not sure what is going in at these places. Anyone have any info? For example, there seems to be a full renovation taking place at the former "Jackie's Kids". There also are crews working on several store fronts just west of the Grove intersection.

Does anyone know what has been going on at the shelter? I often check out the dogs they have up for adoption on their site as we hope to adopt sometime next year. It seems the number of Dogs has been greatly reduced. Anyone know anything?

If true, that is insane and explains why there are so many vacant store fronts. We need something (besides the Path) to bring foot traffic to the area.

As long as they are law abiding, I don't really care, and nor would most JC residents. And although I can only speak for myself, I dont think anyone wants JC to be more like Hoboken. In fact I moved to JC because it wasn't like it.

What would you suggest for the spot?

Why do you think it would be run over? I think it could do more business then what is there currently, considering I've never seen more than a handful of people in that huge store. And not sure what you meant by "young professionals you are dreaming about". On a friday or saturday night, people in the area would be much more inclined to do "dinner and a movie" if they can walk to it, rather then goto the Mall.

I don't really get what this office is responsible for. I checked out their website and it seems that many of the "functions" of the sheriff's office would overlap with local PD's. Why is this an elected postion?

Just a thought, but with such a large space, how would people feel about a small movie theatre? Maybe 2 screens. Would be great for the bars and restaurants in the area.

For those who have had stuff stolen from their vehicles in the downtown area (myself included), a victory for the good guys....

At about 4 AM this morning, I was awoken by some noise oustide near 5th and Coles. An officer in an unmarked vehicle, had spotted some perps going into cars while driving around the neighborhood. The suspects, 3 males and one female driver, were arrested after at least 3 GPS devices and other stuff were found in the vehicle with no explananation besides "that's her GPS..and so is that one." The cops looked into the devices and saw the "Home" addresses programmed in didnt match up, and called them out. This is the second such stop I've seen in front of my apartment in the last 2 months, although the first time, they did not find anything in their possession and could not make the arrest.

I watched most of the arrest go down from my window, and have to say, the undercover who took these guys down did an outstanding job. So kudos to JCPD.

Frontline last night was titled "Death by Fire" and was about a man in Texas who was executed after having been found guilty of murdering his children by burning the house. It was determined afterward that the fire was an accident. But the show's main point was that the vast majority of arson investigators in this country are former Firefighters and that they are not qualified to judge this stuff as the cause of a fire is highly scientific. Worth checking out.

Crime in the area is an important issue and I think we can all agree that we would prefer to live in a community where carrying a concealed weapon is not necessary, regardless of your stance on the issue of gun ownership. We all can agree also that crime in Jersey City is on the uptick. Besides the economy, why is this? What should be done? I like JC but I will not stay here and have a family if this is a continuing trend. For one, I think we need to get our police out from behind desks and on the streets, and increase their numbers.

Basically, let's get back on topic.
