Perhaps the word "totally" was misplaced. They aren't *totally* different, but they are certainly different. Despite them being in the same genre, I feel as though Jay-Z has quite a distinct sound from that of the B-boys (3 MC's & 1 DJ...).

If the reaction to the announcement on the other thread that's been merged w/ this one is any indication: "I have two tickets i'm selling below face" - I'd say i'm not alone in that assessment.

Ouch... Nothing against Jay-Z, but those are two totally different performances...I guess it's understandable given how one of the B-boys was just diagnosed w/ Cancer...

Wonder if they'll have to change all those billboard signs...

I've seen Beastie Boys twice only in festival settings. They were totally sloppy and they barely played any instruments and only sang over the DJ, and even then they were forgetting lyrics. I also didn't like how they pretty much remixed every song live.

Jay Z with a backing band would definitely help with the crowd.

I've seen Beastie Boys mutiples times since 92 and would never describe a show as horrible. I understand there were some hiccups at Bonnaroo because it was there first show in quite awhile but was very excited to see them. Best wishes to Adam Yauch.

Jay-Z is actually pretty good live. It helps that he usually performs with a backing band at stadium shows as well as Festivals.

I just don't think he fits this festival, put him on Rock the Bells or something. Beastie Boys are usually pretty horrible live, but I guess coming this close to the date the promoters are taking whoever they can get at this point.

Jay Z will be interesting. Would have rather it been Rage - just saying - I can dream right.

That's great - thanks! (I worded my earlier posting poorly - I certainly would sell mine for less than face as well.)

Wishing MCA the best and a quick recovery. Regarding Rage as a replacement, that would be insane. Saw them over 12 years ago, and it was an amazing show. What a great replacement for this festival if it turns out to happen.

I bought 2 extra VIP passes for Friday (7/31) that I no longer need. If anyone is interested, please PM me. I'm not looking for more than face value ($189 each). Will seriously consider any reasonable offer.

Adam Yauch Of ?Beastie Boys? Diagnosed With Cancer

July 21st, 2009 - 6:38 pm ICT by GD

Adam Yauch, one of the members of the popular group Beastie Boys announced on Monday, through a home made video placed without fan fare on the band?s website, that he would be receiving treatment for cancer. According to the reports, as Adam will be undergoing a treatment, the band will supposedly cancel its upcoming tours and may push back the release date of their new album, which is pending down the line.

Adam did not give any specifics of the veteran hip-hop group?s plans regarding in the 3 minute 27 second video. Its next scheduled appearance will be supposedly at the ?All Points West Festival? in Jersey City on July 31.

Mr. Yauch had reportedly said in the video, which had probably been recorded in a small recording studio, that he began to feel a small lump on his throat at about two months ago and that the doctors had recently discovered cancer in his parotid gland and lymph node. ?This is something that?s very treatable and in most cases it?s, um, they are able to get red of it,? Yauch reportedly said in the video released at the band?s website. He was accompanied with his fellow band mate Adam Horovitz who was sitting just next to Adam, when the video was being shot.

The video was a remarkable one for its frenzied craziness and informality. As it begins, Yauch and Horovitz laughs as the former says ,?This is crazy.? Mr. Horovitz quickly responds by saying, ?It?s not funny.? While the mood is very serious, the friends and band mates find themselves laughing at several more times. Eventually after Mr. Yauch had apologized to his fans for the cancellation of the shows, Mr. Horovitz looks into the camera and says,?We will see you.?

last year the Sat tickets sold out within a few days but in the month leading up to the event they magically became available once again thru Ticketmaster.
For Friday or Sunday tickets you should have some time to think about it.

Does anyone know how fast or if this is going to sell out? I was out of town during last year's festival so I didn't pay much attention to it, but think I am interested in getting tickets for Friday but am wondering if I have time to think about it or need to be ready to go at noon tomorrow to buy my tix?

Don't expect any volunteer info until the last minute. Last year they didn't confirm volunteers until the day before the festival.

Any volunteer information yet. Was there a perk last year that if you volunteered on one day you get a free ticket for the next?

Did anyone try the VIP area last year? If so, how was it different than general admission?

Thanks!

A couple great perks of VIP last year - They had indoor tents set up with TVs showing the acts performing... It was a great place to hide when it started raining! The lines for beer weren't as long as the general population and you got to skip the long lines waiting to get into the festival. The benches were okay if you wanted to relax and not sit on the wet ground (after the rain), but they were pretty far from the stage. It won't get you closer to the stage, but gives you a few added comforts.

That's what the empty bottles were for. Last year you could bring nalgene containers - just pour your beer in there, walk out and you're good to go.

What was annoying last year was the 4 beer policy. Assuming you were there from the first band to the last, that's not even 1 beer per hour. They should just do like most concert venues do - no more than 1 beer per person at a time and stop serving people if they are intoxicated. (And yes, i know it's a state park and all that stuff, but the limit is a bit strict)

(...just checked the website... you can still bring nalgene bottles and it's a 7 drink per person limit)
