Re: Puerto Rican Parade launches Aug. 22 with Downtown festival

The guy is screaming on his microphone and it's pouring out there!! There's no way there are many people out there that are listening to him. I called the non-emergency number for the jcpd and she said they have a permit to keep going until 10pm. Does anyone else think that's crazy for a Sunday night?!

My building filed a petition to not have it go so late last year but obviously that didn't do anything.

eliquineli4, you must not live along or near the parade route. The mess and lack of respect for other people's private and public space is apparant. Last year (or maybe the year before) there was a knife fight right in front of my building in exchange place. There is piss all of our building and garbage everywhere.

Last year there was a guy blasting his music from his car as I was walking into my building (the parade was already over at this point). I didn't even look at him and he just starts yelling at me that he has a right to hang out there and play his music if he wanted because it was HIS day. He was just looking to instigate something.

It is a nightmare and a weekend I usually try to get away.

Police Activity in Exchange Place

I got out of the Exchange Place Path station about 20-30 minutes ago and there was a lot of police activity. I also saw a firetruck and ambulance. They had some spot lights shining right on the water. I've heard a few sirens since. Anyone know what this is about?

I don't think they have frozen yogurt. From what I understand it's homemade gelato and sorbet. If you're on facebook then look for Tom Parisi. You can get more information about the store and watch a promotional video.

They need these on Washington St. in Newport, especially at Pavonia. I drive through there often and there are always people still walking when the lights turn green.

City Vino has an awesome Portobella Quesadilla! It's not a Panini or sandwich, but thought it deserved a mention! =)

I used to order and eat at Village Thai often and really loved the food there. My friend John used to always order it whenever he visited me because he loved it (especially the Pad See Yel). Last night he ordered the same dish from the renovated recently reopened restaurant (now Sky). First of all, they forgot the extra hot sauce he requested on the side. Second of all, he complained that it didn't taste good at all. Finally, he was up all night vomiting.

I hope this was a one off because I used to really enjoy Village. Is it under new ownership/management now? Are they using different chefs/staff?

It was 100% fireworks. Saw them from my apt. It happens often from Spring to Fall.

I am sickened by the number of people killed in our city... something needs to be done to re-educate the people in our city to move away from a mentality of violance. I don't get how this happens and why people are so willing to kill each other... I am very saddened by the statistics..

What can we do to stop this from happening?

It's all just marketing plans to get them to sell finally...
It's a new building.. they shouldn't have to redecorate/remarket yet

I was on the train from WTC to Newark around 4:30pm today when a dirty looking guy walked on and asked if there were "any bathrooms on the train". We told him there weren't and he just walked right out the door of the train and relieved himself off the side of the train. He then proceeded to come back in while zipping himself back up. Pure class...

I was screened this morning at Exchange Place and didn't think anything of it. Now seeing the images it produces and remembering that there were like 5 people behind the system watching the screen (I was the only one coming in at the time) makes me feel a little invaded... Not sure about this. I don't mind extra safety to not worry as much, but not sure I trust the people operating the machines 100%.

Did anyone try the VIP area last year? If so, how was it different than general admission?

Thanks!

A couple great perks of VIP last year - They had indoor tents set up with TVs showing the acts performing... It was a great place to hide when it started raining! The lines for beer weren't as long as the general population and you got to skip the long lines waiting to get into the festival. The benches were okay if you wanted to relax and not sit on the wet ground (after the rain), but they were pretty far from the stage. It won't get you closer to the stage, but gives you a few added comforts.

So I made it to the pretzel shop over the weekend. I think it's a great addition and I'm so happy to have it here. I stopped in after my Saturday class and ordered 3 pretzels for $2. They threw in a free one, which was very much appreciated. I enjoyed the pretzels so much that I bought two boxes of rivets with cheese, one for a friend and one for my aunt. This time they threw in a free dipping sauce to try.

I think the rivets and platters are a great alternative to bring to a party or just when visiting friends or family. Everyone that tried them at my aunt's house loved them and asked that I bring them again next time!

I have been wanting to try it, but they are closed by the time I get home from work. Wondering if they will be open this weekend so I can try it out! I love soft pretzels and am very excited about the addition!

After a late night of work tonight, I jumped onto the crowded WTC train heading towards Newark. Before reaching exchange place, a man decided to unbuckle his belt, drop his pants to his ankles, lift his boxers to reveal his left butt cheek and show some sort of growth to his friend that was sitting in one of the seats. I think everyone else was as confused and disgusted as I was. There really are some strange people here.

As an FYI - Some of the apartment complexes, such as Windsor at Liberty House, come with 1 free parking spot. You also get a pool and gym!

At least that's what it was when I lived there a couple years ago.

Nikki is right. I have one from a surgery I had last year. I now have 2 plates and 19 screws in my leg as a result. I walk pretty normally (and I drive a BMW), but I have a lot of pain with every step I take. I have had people staring at me before as I step out because I probably don't look like I need it. I only use my temporary handicap tag if I am having pain that day and there are no other spots near the entrance.

Immediately after my surgery it was very frustrating when I couldn't find a handicapped spot when I really needed it. Because of this, I am careful as to when I actually take up a spot and try not to use it when I don't have to. If only everyone else would be more kind and understanding.

Montgomery Greene (http://montgomery-greene.com/) right in Exchange Place has some lofts spaces for living/business.

You can check with the sales office to see if any more are available. Maybe someone that bought one is renting one out??

The location is ideal and the area is safe....
