I also recommend Bob Funk. Very nice guy and does solid work for a good price.

Beware Carmine Aumenta. He tried to rip me off after Hurricane Sandy even through I was a paying customer for years before. He also bragged to others working on my building that he was overcharging due to the situation. This man is a snake.

It's not visible to the voter as its on the side of the machine, the workers were discussing it at the time I voted and trying to determine if there was problem with the machine. I believe lawyers were called to the location to sort it out.

At the school on Bright St this morning at 8:40 the voting machines are counting backward. I logged an incident report as it affected my voting machine and another one in the row. There was no election official of rank on site and the workers were unsure what to do. One said, "don't worry, it's a computer and does that sometimes"

sounds good to me. Every Saturday and Sunday I listen to the honking and watch the backups on Monmouth of the cars and coach buses. These are the people who get off at 14B.

I would imagine that prior to the onset of GPS, they wouldn't have ventured into JC but now that we're in the time of "never lost" technology, no one is afraid to blaze a new trail to avoid traffic

Stop by the Planning offices at 30 Montgomery (14th floor, I think) and they can give you a copy of the Historic District rules/guidelines. It's a good start and gives you an idea of the process before initiating the forms for what type of work you want done. Also stop by the tax assessors office at City Hall to obtain the photos of your property from the 30s that are used as the preservation guideline.

If it's updating something that is existing (meaning re-paint, repair masonry, etc.), it should be fairly straightforward. If you are looking to alter the look, then it can get complicated.

Good Luck
CC

I definitely recommend Baker Doors. Jeff just installed mahogany handmade doors on my building on Monmouth and they look fantastic. He's great to work with, is local to the neighborhood, and takes pride in his work.

Support your local artisans!

I wrote to the Gov yesterday and suggest everyone do the same. Corzine needs to bring pressure on JC pols that refuse to resign; ask him why JC residents should vote for Corzine if he won't try to get these frauds out of office. Even if you don't like and would not vote for him, use the election to get his attention to help Jersey City.

once again, our money (gov't money is taxpayer $$) is used against us. Healy gets a headline under the guise of doing the right thing and we lose

It will be interesting to hear the debate at the council meeting today; wonder if vega will abstain this time.

My girlfriend and I would definitely go to a new place. I'm closer to Bright and there isn't anything over here filling that niche.

well, here's one very large reason that you might want to avoid greenpoint

jc downtown is still pretty good, especially when the news trucks pull up outside city hall. Nonstop entertainment!

Thanks for the info. I'm in the market for a car and saw this company on ebay. My first impression was that they seemed sketchy and your post confirmed it.

Have the building install a convex mirror at the garage exit if there is a good location to do it.

I recommend E. Rutherford Roofing Company. They put a flat roof on my brownstone building two years ago and did a nice job. They quoted more money than others, but were informative with the type of material to be used and provided a large list of references; they've done quite a bit of work in the JC/Hoboken area.

JCPD caught a kid with drugs and were looking for another that took off toward Pathmark. They said the suspects were from Booker T Washington, which I assume is the name of housing. Most of the commotion was at the other end of the street, so I'm not sure if they caught the second suspect.

I live at the corner of Monmouth & York and it's pretty safe. The regular sounds of ambulance sirens coming down Monmouth from the hospital can be annoying, but that's part of living in the city.
