Re: Parkside Bistro - Hamilton Park

Went for the first time last night with some friends. The best mediterranean food I have had in a very long time. The kabobs were amazing, portions were large. Everything was fresh. Basmati rice is cooked with a hint of cinnamon and cumin. You could eat it on it's own. We cannot wait to go back. Finally a place serving good mediterranean food. Oh, and the ice cream is also amazing. They must have sold 6-7 milk shakes while we were eating to walk in customers. We took some to go.

We had UPS drop off a package which required a signature. They left it with no signature, I arrived 30 minutes after it was dropped off, and gone. Inside were 2 tickets to see Pearl Jam at MSG next week. According to Ticketmaster, they cancelled these tickets and will have new ones for me at will call. It took 5 calls with ticketmaster, had to file a police report, UPS did an invstigation, I think? They never got back to us and kind of walked away from any responsibility. What a trainwreck. The only consolation is that whoever has our original tickets will realize they are useless.

Re: Flooding advice?

People pump to the street because the sewer/rain water line backs up often, and even with check valves, you cannot pump the water into the sewer line when the swere line is backing up. You will then most definitely flood. What you need to do is pump the water into the sewer line, but during heavy rains, pump it out to the front sidewalk. You can get a variance from the city to run the line under the sidewalk. There is a class action lawsuit against the city for forcing people to hook up to the sewer lines when inevitably that will cause people to flood. They are more open to allowing you to do fixes in order to protect your investment.

Wishing MCA the best and a quick recovery. Regarding Rage as a replacement, that would be insane. Saw them over 12 years ago, and it was an amazing show. What a great replacement for this festival if it turns out to happen.

Re: Correct Recycling Preparation?

Guys,

I experienced the same problems. Recycling picked up one week and not the other. Waste Management (WM) is contracted to collect the recycling, it then gets dropped off at a recycling company 5-10 minutes away in Jersey City. If you call WM directly (JC will have the phone number to call), they will send out a smaller collection truck the next day and perform the pick up. They actually went into our rubbermaid storage area and emptied our bin that was wasnt dumped the night before. If enough people continue to call them, the service should improve. Since I called WM a month ago, we haven't had a problem. If you have cardboard &/or newsprint you can drop it off at Galaxy Recycling, 25 New York Street, Jersey City. However, glass is recycled at a cost to the city and to the recycling company, so they would charge for this to be dropped off. They off set the glass recycling by making money on aluminum cans, plastic bottles, Milk jugs, newspaper, and cardboard. Most of this is processed and exported to China. The reason they prefer to not have recyclables bagged is it cannot be processed through the equipment used to sort the bottles/cans/plastics from the paper/cardboard. it is quite a process.

I started to notice that every pick up or every 2nd pick up, WM would empty 1/4, maybe 1/2 of my recycling bin. We called WM and they actually went into our shed, took the recycling out, and dumped it. I would recommend calling WM directly. They operate out of a plant located in Newark, near Maher Terminal, not too far away. I also talked to their Area Manager for the state of NJ, hopefully things will improve. The material collected actually gets processed in JC at a local recycling center located 5 minutes from Hamilton Park.

Westin is part of the Starwood Hotel Brand (W Hotel, Sheraton, Four Points). It is considered a 3 1/2 to 4 star depending which one you stay at. Westin has some great resorts throughout the world, they are more 5 star. I have always enjoyed their hotels. Maybe having it in JC brought it down to a 3 star.

This is my new place for coffee on the way to work every morning. Friendly staff. Nice having another option for a coffee and snack. The cup cakes are amazing too.

Guys, being in the recycling business, these companies will often pay their workers on a per route basis, not hourly. By picking up at night, they can quickly finish up their pick up's and call it a night. If you started having the p/u's performed earlier, it would be the tax payers footing the bill for these guys working longer shifts/hours. It is a shame re: the recycling. It really doesnt matter weather it is bagged, loose etc. They throw it all into the same truck and sort it out at their Newark facility. Have you ever noticed that every so often, the garbage truck picks up the recyclables too. I can guarantee that they cannot reclaim the recyclables out of that load. You can thank Waste Management for that . Thats how much of a $$$ amount they put on time in motion. If the recycling truck is full, it all goes into the trash. That way they dont have to dispatch the recycling crew one more time that night.

Went here for the first time on Saturday and went back again on Tuesday. It's a dangerous place, I could eat here 3 times per week! I went in 5 minutes before closing and they loaded up 2 plates to go with a variety of everything they have, only $18.00! Great place and highly recommended.

I was at Skinners the other night, and although the food was good, I also experienced below average service, wait staff had this look on their faces as though they would rather be anywhere else but at Skinners! I think people are missing the point. Skinners is losing business because a server and a manager couldnt find a way to come up with a scoop of ice cream?? I could appreciate if ice cream was "seasonal", or if it was produced in certain geographical parts of the world and had to be flown in daily to preserve it's freshness. From reading these threads, it was more the attitude of the staff that pissed off the customer. There is nothing worse than taking clients to a restaurant, then being let down by the service. There are too many places to dine at. After having 2 bad experiences myself at Skinner's, OX will be my new stomping ground. I am pretty simple when it comes to dining out and the service I expect. Sometimes you simply want to go to a place that wont let you down. Skinners, one recommendation, put more time and energy into hiring management, they can do a lot of damage you may not be aware of.
