I like the concept of a pedestrian bridge across Grand. With the school, hospital, Liberty Harbor etc. it makes a ton of sense. Fabricate off-site and on a weekend it goes up. People safe above the highway below.

I for one found it amusing, being obviously a spoof of the constant response to reasonable quality of life concerns:"who do you think you are to complain about the (fill in the bar, fireworks, yard furniture, drug dealer of your choice), you soft yuppie newcomer?"

The real "trick" is that the city repaved Grand Street and added two lanes of traffic and stripped away resident parking along the street. So now instead of pedestrians crossing 40 feet of traffic with parked cars on either side of the street, they have 80 feet to cross with no parked cars to narrow the street and cars that fly through there at 50mph. But that's okay, the city is about to do the same thing to Columbus.

You miss the point, shaded one. First, approval comes from the city, not the state. More importantly, approval has been withheld for about one year. Not because they couldn't sync it. Because it doesn't match the curtains. Or the sofa. Or the developer didn't make the proper contribution. Whatever - the outcome is standard: the people who are affected by this pissing duel are not the pissers. No, the affected are we, the urine-soaked sheep who have to cross Grand st. The same sheep who get to pay higher taxes (imposed in part by a non-resident), subsidize Crystal Point and deal with every other foul wind that blows out of 280 Grand St.

The traffic light at Barrow & Grand was installed by the developer of Liberty Harbor. It is his responsibility to activate it only after he gets the approval from the State. The trick will be to sync the new lights with those north and south to avoid congestion. Good night and good luck.

Alan - totally confused by your post - are you quoting someone, are you being funny, or do you actually think this is libel?

"What do you expect? You whiny suburbanites. Musta got here last week. You live in the big city now. You gotta expect inefficiency, corruption, and graft. It's always been like that and it always will be. Joe Da Zulu is a good guy and a family friend and this is libel and we're gonna sue!"

The new traffic lights on Warren St are indeed black. I'm not sure about about traffic lights in Exchange Place.
The point is, after it was approved, it has subsequently taken *years* to get lights installed on such street with Councilman Fulop, and others following up regularly with the Director of Traffic and Transportation Maintenance. Now that the lights have finally been installed, years later, despite being wired up weeks ago, they are still not operational.

While you are at it, also complain about the two sets of traffic lights crossing Warren Street, on C. Columbus and Montgomery. They've been ready to go for weeks.
By the way, it took 3 years for Joao D'Souza to put those lights in. From http://www.cityofjerseycity.com/ ..... Joao D'Souza, Director Division of Traffic and Transportation Maintenance Public Works Complex, 575 Route 440 Jersey City, NJ 07305 Tel: (201) 547-4471 Fax: (201) 547-4703 Description The Division of Traffic and Transportation Maintenance provides for the maintenance of City traffic signals and street lighting systems and maximizes safety, circulation, and efficiency of City streets. The Division maintains and analyzes traffic collision records, speed surveys, traffic counts and reviews traffic control plans. Division staff is also responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on traffic issues and concerns. This Division is also responsible for street/lane closings, handicapped parking permits, dumpster permits, installing and replacing street signs and post, and road markings such as crosswalks, 25 MPH, stop sign marking, double yellow and speed bumps.

Well Healy probably doesn't have a campaign contributor with a paint brush, he probably only has contributors that sell yellow traffic lights. The real crime here is the city unilaterally decided to convert Grand Street into a four lane thoroughfare, eliminating resident parking and creating an unsafe pedestrian condition. If there were only two lanes of traffic, it would be much safer to cross the street, but its really super important that non-residents can get to their offices on the waterfront, so local residents' safety is not that important.

I actually cross Grand and Liberty view drive monday through friday and am always very nervous because there is no light. I had no idea that it was due to something as simple as a color. I will also be making a call...

I think Liberty Harbor even offered to paint them yellow, but that wasn't satisfactory to D'Zuza.

It's bad enough that the light hasn't been activated, but there isn't even a temporary stop sign for the cars coming across Grand at Liberty View/Barrow.
I guess the city is just hoping it has an accident and then loses a lawsuit because of negligence. I'll be calling those numbers.

I've heard the same thing (about the color of the lights) from a good source. Those lights have been hanging in place for almost a year now. Asinine is too kind a word to describe the situation.

Please make a point to encourage residents and Beer Garden friends to contact Joe D'Zuza, Mayor Healy and Steven Fulop regarding the activation of the traffic light at the corner of Grand Street and Liberty View Drive/Barrow Streets in
downtown Jersey City. This is an important first step to improving the safety on the street. Joe D'Zuza 201 547 4530 JC Traffic and Engineering He is the guy responsible for turning the traffic light on. My understanding is that the light is electrified. Mr. D'Zuza is refusing to activate because the light is black and not yellow like the other traffic lights in the city. This seems like a ridiculous reason to put people's lives in danger. PLEASE CONTACT JC Traffic and Engineering, Mayor's Action Bureau and Councilman Steven Fulop. Your input will make all the difference in making our neighborhood a safer place to live. DEMAND THAT THE LIGHT BE ACTIVATED NOW! Mayor's Action Bureau City Hall, 280 Grove Street Room 105 Jersey City, NJ 07302 Tel: (201) 547-4900/5555 Fax: (201) 547-5749 Web: Online Help Center Jack Carley, Director Councilman Steven Fulop PO Box 13025 Jersey City, NJ 07303 info@stevenfulop. com
