Ahhh, The Culture wars.
I guess it's not hard to find something to disagree on. Wanabet that the person who started this thread will be voting McCain/Palin? It's pretty easy to know what buttons you can push on this site to get guaranteed, over-the-top reaction. Wouldn't it be funny if the national Republican party got to the point of accusing Obama of being in favor of leash laws. And forcing everyone to clean up after their dog. Or banning Pit Bulls. Or being in favor of more 99? stores. Or BJ's carts on every corner. Or non-prescription fashion glasses. My god! What's the world coming to??  Better vote for McCain!! Before it's too late!!

i don't mind the hipsters. they're safe. i like safety. in fact, i prefer them to the yuppies. when yuppies move into town, they bring expensive cars. expensive cars that criminals like to steal, which brings criminals to the city.

I feel foreign in the city I was born and raised in. If I see one more person with the t-shirt with scarf combination, I'ma flip. When I go Downtown now, I feel like I walked into an Iphone commercial. But oh well, I guess they'll help the rest of JC eventually, in some indirect way.

I like seeing younger people everywhere in JC; hipster or IT geek, I don't care. They bring certain freshness to the neighborhood and they probably spend more money on coffee, food, drinks, clothes, etc. than others. I think lux condos and young people both add to the desirability of the city. I'm for both!

The word "Hipster" doesn't define, in the slightest, the almost hip-"ish" yuppies who are moving into JC. If you really want to know what a hipster is, go to WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN. Find a more applicable word if you need to categorize the people moving into JC, but trust me... HIPSTERS CANNOT AFFORD TO LIVE IN JC!
Also.. why is that all of the people who post on this thread sound like Fashion/Style Police?

I like the hipsters, they make me laugh. I saw a little Asian girl with tight jeans, black frame glasses, flannel shirt and army hat riding a bike with a banana seat yesterday.
As for the occupants of luxury condos, they won't mug me and don't hit me up for change every time I buy a sandwich. So neither of them are that bad.

I'm getting confused...hipster, hippie,yuppie, yupster, new yorkster, nerd, geek, geekster, poser, wanna-be, mid-westerner, california dude, surfer, stroller moms, dog walkers, poopsters...
whats worse? i say the luxury condos because construction starts at 5am across the street from my house and it sucks now that I no longer have the AC on to drown out the noise....

I really like the neighborhood, I shop and dine local, and I support stuff like the Loews. I'd be really sad if people thought I was bad for JC.

So what, exactly, is wrong with people wearing prescription-less glasses? Seems to me just another way of accessorizing. Most people don't really NEED belts to hold their pants up, I see girls wearing pashima scarves when it's not chilly out, hats when it's not sunny or raining, headbands that don't keep hair out of the face etc. Who the hell cares? If anything, I'm flattered that people want to emulate my blind ass.

have always found JCs version of the "Hipster" to be pretty harmless, especially in comparison to certain areas of Brooklyn where it is like a 365 day a year parade of people trying to outdue each other with tatoos, attitude and costumes.
More concerned with boring mopes filling up all the luxury high rises. getting a little to crowded around Grove with that scene.

In my line of work, i have to deal with a fair number of hipsters.
I've commented on people's glasses, only to have them tell me that they are fake. And if you ever venture into an Urban Outfitters, you'll see that they sell FAKE glasses.
