What time did the kitchen close? I was there from about 10:30 until midnight.

A detailed description of Zeppelin Hall...
The place is separated into two rooms each having their own bar and each having access to the outside area. Three security guards were outside carding people as they walked in. The first room (west) has two tvs and I think a fireplace, the second room (east) has s small covered stage (against the east wall) and a projection screen (against the north wall). Both rooms are lit by white pinspots with some highlights of color. The line for food was long at times but it helps if you get your beer first and then wait in line for food. You basically line up at a large "kitchen" window which opens outside. I agree that the kitchen might have been built too small for the space. In the outdoor garden there is an outside bar covered by a tent, it did not seem that it was open yet. Also the flights of beer was not available yet, only mugs and pitchers.

Can't we have like a week moratorium on bashing the place?
Although, come to think of it, I'd rather 90% of the gloomy gusses on here stayed away. And what does a drinking hall have to do with the Sandbar? One is a drinking hall. The other is a night club.

Yes, I have been to several beer gardens, and appreciated them for their character. Which was lacking at this one when I rode by, but maybe that will change. The pics I saw of the inside looked pretty nice. Psyched to have the place in the hood. I might just wait till they iron out some kinks first. (Having tried Skinner's opening week, I learned my lesson).

jennymayla, have you ever been to a beer garden? They generally just look kinda like camp sites. A bunch of picnic tables surrounded by a fence. Hopefully some trees.
Showtime, I haven't been there yet, but most beer gardens have an outdoor bar where you line up to get beer, and then another stand for food. No waitresses. I want to go check this out today during the day, if it's open.

What is the set-up? How does it work? "Line for food" makes me think you get your own booze and food from ... what? ... booths? ... and so then there's no table service. Which is ok, I just don't want to sit there waiting for the waitress to come over. :) Sorry, I was at a German biergarten once in Frankfurt but it was so long ago, I've forgotten. :) I might try this place out tomorrow ...

you're psyched that it took you 20 mins to get a beer and even longer to get food? doesn't exactly sound like a good endorsement.

It was crazy busy there on opening night. It took us about 20 minutes to get our first round of beers. This place is huge!!! The line for food was even longer than for beer. It was very loud inside and there wasn't even any music playing.
My suspicions about the total number of beers on tap were true, there are only maybe 50 or so beers being poured on the 144 lines at this point but I'm sure they can add plenty more as they go forward. Overall very impressive.

There are over two thousand parking spaces just behind or south of the Bier Garten. Google the site and you will see the whole schmear.

There are nice photos on the hobokennow site:
http://www.nj.com/hobokennow/index.ss ... this_isnt_in_hoboken.html New beer garden to open tomorrow in downtown Jersey City by Carly Thursday June 25, 2009, 5:48 PM The garden and long benches outside the beer hall. No, this isn't in Hoboken, but it's close! Zeppelin Hall, a European-style biergarten is scheduled to open tomorrow in downtown Jersey City. Zeppelin Hall is located in Liberty Harbor, the new development built by former North Bergen mayor Peter Mocco. Our good friend over at New York's Sixth sent us these exclusive photos from inside and outside the beer hall. Zeppelin Hall is located at 88 Liberty View Drive, just off Grand Street. It's a short walk from the Grove Street PATH stop or off the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. It's right by Liberty State Park -- there's a little bridge you can cross to get to the park. The biergarten has a full menu -- say hello to "Von Zeppelin Wings" and Sauerbraten and 144 American and European beers on tap. Opens tomorrow!

If it doesn't rain, I'll take the over on that. Sure - there hasn't been much (any?) "traditional" advertising, but I think that's a smart move and really not as necessary as it used to be. By choosing certain media, you can better shape your clientele. Besides, there's more awareness of it than you'd think. It'd be great if this thing succeeded as a local gem. The last thing Liberty Harbor needs is another Sand Bar-type of attraction. Not that Zeppelin could handle it anyway - there's not a lot of parking in the area.

I rode by there last night (which lead to the bike wipe out, grrrr). Kind of un-wowed by it. Looks like a campsite.

But it seems among the people I talk to that there is a universal interest in descending on Friday night, which could cause a problem if only 800 people fit at the place or they expecting a small turnout on opening night. How many people are you talking to?? Jennymala's got a point - there's a lot of interest on the local forums but I say that translates into only a few dozen people at the most. And outside of these sites I wouldn't have known about this place either. My opening night bet is that the outside tables are a third to half full.

The concept is great. Hope it prospers but it's true that other than here I also would not know of it. If you build a better mousetrap you better advertise it or no one will buy.

If it weren't for this website and a couple other local ones, I wouldn't know this beer garden was even happening. And I live two blocks away from it.

Really depends on the business and what it brings to the neighborhood. Take the Sandbar for instance. If a business is inconsiderate and only helps to degrade an area then yes, I wish them to fail. This "Beer Hall" is still not open and its impact is TBD.

I have seen no advertisements for this place, and the only "talk" I have heard has been on this site and on Kannekt. So I'm thinking that the crowd will not be as large as you might expect. In the early days, anyway.

"I am concerned that a lot of people will be there with a bunch of friends. Maybe too many, actually"
So do you want a new local business to fail? Or do you live there?
