Parents need the behometh strollers because they are convenient to carry diapers/toys/books/change of clothes/bottles/food and the other sundry items that are required to go for a walk with an infant. Sorry raising the next generation is such a bother to you.

Also, back to the topic at hand, the old dudes by Helen's are harmless.

Moxiebaby or anybody else - any other buildings in that general area you would recommend taking a look at based on your experience. Travelling alot for work so anything I can immediately eliminate would save some time. I am interested in a large pre-war apartment.

Poor Guy? He tackled a cop. He has a long rap sheet. He should go away and do the time. Sounds like the streets are safer without him on them.

I live on 7th between Cole and Monmouth. Overall it is a good area and your wife will be fine during the day. THe McNair kids tend to make some noise in the afternoon but they are harmless. It is great to be close to both Hamilton Park and Jones park. I have never had (knock on wood) any problems with crime or vandalism. We used to live over by VVP and this area feels much more like a neighborhood.

The only problem in the area is the "Musicbox" for the fights that spill out onto the street, the screaming and overall seediness of the patrons. Also since most of the folks that frequent the Musicbox don't live in the neighborhood, I have had a hard time finding parking spaces on Thursday and Friday nights. I attribute this to the Musicbox crowd parking in the neighborhood. Parking all the other nights seems to be fine.

It is a nice neighborhood. Just has one loud spot that gives us all the opportunity to kvetch.

Silly question.....Is McCann still gainfully employed by the city? Or consulting or whatever. Funny thing in the business I run we really, really never re-hire people who have been convicted of ripping us off. We call that a "best practice"

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Waterman and came away genuinely impressed. His story made sense to me....he wants his kid to get a better education.

His answers were very well thought out and I really dont know much about Edison Schools but it really just sounds like he had a job managing the office and not formulating education policy. I am looking to hear from some of the other candidates, but I think Mr. Waterman has my vote at this point!

The teacher's contract isnt the real problem. The real waste is in the administration.....just take a look at the Empire that Epps has built there. He makes over $250k!!! They have by my count the following people making over $100k:

1 Deputy Superintendent
7 Associate Superintendents
14 Special Assistants
2 Executive Assistants
1 Highly Skilled professional

These people are ADMINISTRATORS who work for the board of education. The money isnt getting to the classrom!!!

Epps is currently angling for an extension on his contract. His term has been an utter failure and huge waste of tax payer money. It is time to change up the composition of the school board so we can prevent them from renewing Epps' contract. Get angry and get involved. The same level of corruption that we see in city hall is in the board of education.....remember Ed Cheatem?

If you have a car there is also a driving range in Roseland run by Essex County. Still mats and still covered. But on off peak hours it is not too far away and less crowded than Edgewater.

I am sorry but how can Sean Conners abstain on this vote! It really shows a lack of spine. He can't decide between his family (McCann) and the teacher's union that got him elected.

Music Box Cafe
#18

I live on 7th Street. At the corner of Monmouth and 7th we have a horrible looking bar called the "Music Box Cafe". Last night a fight broke out at this lyrical little establishment and the patrons came streaming out into the street screaming and raising hell. This is not atypical.

I live almost a whole block away from this place and yet atleast once a week the patrons from this bar are creating some type of disturbance that gets me out of bed. I can only imagine the troubled sleep of the people who live closer to the bar.

My question is.....does anyone know if there has ever been an effort to close down the Music Box? Or are there any other steps that the community could take to make the place respect its neighbors.

As a regular user of the LP driving range I am a little sad that I will have to drive all the way to Edgewater to hit a bucket of balls. (Please let me know if anyone knows of a driving range that is closer!).

But I am very excited to have a county course to play in Jersey City! If my memory serves me this will be the first county course in Hudson county.

I cant imagine it will be ready before spring 2011.

Let me start by saying that I am not making fun of anyone's medical condition, but I had the opportunity to sneak into the media room and see the press conference and Mayor Healy did not look well.

His hands were visibly shaking as he held his statement. The shaking was very pronounced and frankly made me feel sorry for the guy. I dont know if he has a medical condition or if this related to the stress he is under......

Brennan's comment about changing his vote was a complete joke. It shows one of two things: 1. he spent so little time thinking through the issues that he could be swayed by such a minor incident or 2) he felt so guilty about casting that yes vote that he was grasping for anytype of justification. Either way it was a sad reflection upon the deliberation style of our new council president pro temp.

Looks like things keep getting more interesting for the Councilwoman........

Jersey City Councilwoman Nidia Lopez didn't get a New Jersey driver's license until after election
by Amy Sara Clark / The Jersey Journal
Tuesday July 07, 2009, 6:06 PM

Amy Sara Clark / The Jersey Journal
Newly sworn in Jersey City Councilwoman Nidia Lopez at her first City Council meeting on July 1, 2009 at Jersey City Hall. Jersey City Councilwoman Nidia Lopez had an out of state driver's license until June 15, when she switched it to New Jersey, a Motor Vehicle Commission spokesman said.

State records do not indicate where Lopez had her license before, the spokesman said, but it is likely her former license was from Florida, where she owns a 4-bedroom home.

Lopez was sworn in as Ward C Councilwoman July 1. She was elected to the office May 12.

Last week, The Jersey Journal reported Florida officials are investigating whether Lopez improperly received tax exemptions for her Orlando home between 1997 and 2008. They denied her claim for 2009.

The investigation came to light after Jimmy King, who finished second to Lopez in May's municipal election in Ward C, filed a lawsuit in Hudson County Superior Court challenging Lopez's Jersey City residency.

Yesterday the Jersey Journal reported that Lopez has violated Florida law by being registered to vote in Orlando at the same time she's registered to vote in Jersey City and by voting in both places in 2003, according to a Florida official

No doubt that this joker is related to someone. I am sure he will be suspended with pay for several weeks and then once the storm blows over quietly be re-instated. Just another example of how the government in this city does not serve the interests of the citizens. Instead government in this city serves the interests of a small clique with the right connections.

Is there a time period someone must be a Jersey City resident before they are eligible to run for office? I know for some states have a two year residency requirement before you can run for the legislature.

Obviously if she is still a resident of Florida she would be ineligible to run in New Jersey.

This place seems like it has a split personality part grocery, part cafe, part deli. The coffee here was fine and I had a sandwich which again was fine. I was a little disappointed because I thought this place was going to be a real cafe where I could sit and do work. The smell of the cleaning agents on the wall made it hard for me to find the deli items appetizing.

The owners were very friendly.
