Except that when you raise fares more people drive instead of take mass transit, which leads to congested roads which means costly new highways. But that's okay because then the federal government will pay for most of the cost of the new highways, and the feds can just print more money when they need it.

The Fed shouldn't pay for the highways, but then, it doesn't a lot of things it shouldn't do.

you do realize the fed pays for highways the same way states do, with a gas tax..

http://www.api.org/statistics/fueltax ... _diesel_summary_pages.pdf

.. just saying

yes, you are correct everyone should pay a usage tax for whatever government service they consume. However increasing the cost of public transportation is a regressive tax, due to the nature of the service. Poorer people rely on public transportation disproportional more than middle to upper class people do. Thus in general an increase in the cost of public transportation will have a greater economic (reducing the disposable income of the poor who as is have very little margin between "making it" and not) impact on the states economy than raising the cost of private transportation (people who in general have the option of driving most likely have greater margins to deal with).

When i read things like this i thing; finally govt workers are taking as big of a hit as the average worker. If you really delve into it, they arent at all. The NJ Govt worker is the highest paid, as the most generous package of any other public employee system in the US. Its better than most private sector jobs, and finally its coming back to bite these ppl.

take a look at this current serious about NJ taxes;

I am not a lawyer nor do i claim to have an insight into tort.

But doesnt speculating about compensating future dependence leave lawsuits such as this one open to near unlimited amounts? Also from my experiences her auto insurance/homeowners/etc etc will have un/under insured stipulations that will assist her further.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Just a thought to improve safety, at the sacrifice of parking

In FL (only place i have seen them), they placed islands in the center of the roads causing divers to make slight turns and hence slow down.... just a thought

I looked at the schedules for the ACES train...and that thing takes way too long for not making any stops. Why in the heck would it take almost 3 hours????????????????????????????????????????????

That's not convenient at all. So you're not getting home until 5am? Why not just stay overnight, and park for free. So long as you're not going alone, and you can split on gas/tolls. Does this train drive 25 miles per hour?

THe reason it takes 3 hrs is the train has to go to Phillly first then to AC, there is no rail line that goes all the way down the coast. I actually throughly enjoyed ACES, AC on the other hand sucked...

I am all for competition (i know capitalism left this country long ago, circa 1935), but it must be a on level playing field if these trucks are not up to code, not being licensed properly, and so on down the list, there is no reason that they should be allowed to operate. If however they are, and stores are just bitter abt competition the brick and mortar places should suck it up.

There is a whole thread abt it... try searching for more details.

I have been there a few times to get tubes, cliff bars, CO2, and other little things. They are nice guys, although selection is somewhat limited due to store space. Prices are all the advertised MSRP the company puts out, nothing surprising like other LBS's.

The 2009 Model Season is ending (or ended this week) and the 2010 are now being sent out. So maybe you can snag a deal somewhere!!!

Good Luck!

Or how about the proposal to extend the Light Rail to the meadowlands? its embarrassing that NYC has no real mass transit to one if its major sporting arenas. There are apparently the occasional busses that run from the Port Authority, but they do nothing to alleviate the congestion of thousands of cars coming in and out of the stadium on game day. and it does nothing for the fans who live in NJ. It would be nice to be able to hop on a Light rail and go straight to the stadium to save a lot of time and money. And Im sure the ridiculous Xanadu complex could only benefit from more mass transit too.

THey are nearing completion of the NJT rail line to the meadowlands

Not sure how he got it, but you can see any ship in the NY Harbor by checking the AIS system, a raido signal that all ships emmit to alert local authorities of their name, direction, call signs, flag etc etc

here is a free one for NY harbor:
