New York Presbyterian is one of the best hospitals in the country. I see Sandra Hall-Ross, and I really like her.

Though no one wants to hear this, you should pick and visit a doctor when you are well, not when you have an emergency. When they know you and your history they have a better shot at giving you great care. Dr Hall-Ross even saw me once when I got my calendar screwed up and went on the wrong day.

Anyway it's a schlep up there - 68th and York, but we live in a place where a short train ride will get us to some of the best medical care in the country.

I heard on good advice that Portside Medical is ok if you deal with Dr Levine and that Dr Witt is as useless as a bull with tits !

My Wife and I have been going to Center for Family Health, a clinic of Hoboken University Medical Center, for at least 9 years. It's not a ritzy practice, but it's clean, well run, and because it's part of a teaching hospital, even if your regular doctor is unavailable, you can ALWAYS get seen that day by a resident. If your problem is over the resident's head then an attending doctor is available.

We've found that for basic healthcare, and gatekeeping like prescriptions, referrals etc, they're pretty satifactory and conveniently local.

Im thinking of visiting her office and I'd like to know if she has been your dr before? Is she a good dr? Does she genuinely care about her patients? What were your experiences with her/her staff? Is there parking around her office?

Im very curious and would like all the information that I could get.

Thanks again for your help!

I'm looking for an urgent care medical office with weekend hours in JC or surrounding areas.

Not in need of the ER, but probably need to be seen by a doc asap.

Google didn't turn up much and I'd rather not go into NYC.

Thanks.

Thanks everyone. I wound up going to the ER because we called around and nothing was open on a Sunday. We would have had to drive 30-40 minutes out of town to get to one of those 7 day a week walk-in clinics.

Normally don't like to be alarmist and use the ER in that way, but good thing I did. Caught an eye infection that was spreading pretty quickly.

Can anyone recommend a general practitioner in jc? I have only been to some of the clinics in the downtown area and am looking for something a little less chaotic and a little cleaner.

i went to vita med on Newark ave with Dr Majchrzak a few weeks ago. i needed a physical done asap and i just sorta went on a whim since they were the fastest place that took me. they're located on newark ave by the court house, and a few blocks away from the JSQ path station (prob like a 10 min walk or so).

their waiting room was modern, clean and large. staff was helpful, and the dr himself was very pleasant. he was very attentive and thorough. they also had a bunch of other doctors in the same place so if you needed a specialist, you didnt have to go far. the best part IMO was that they took my blood samples right there.. in the past, i would have had to go to a separate lab the next day.

hopefully i wont get sick and have to go back anytime soon ... but if i do, i think ive found my new primary doctor

This is so far the best doctor's office I've seen anywhere, since they're always willing to take anyone, even a new patient, same day. Even if I don't think the doctors are that good, realistically all they have to do is care enough about the patient to actually see them and write whatever prescription is needed.

So far as other Jersey City doctors, for example, I was told by Dr Mangia's office to go to the ER for something very minor (actually on multiple independent occasions). At the time he was my Primary Care Physician, so I had no choice if I wanted to be covered. It was real fun when, under that plan, I had to visit him once for each visit to a specialist, to get a fresh referral. So if a specialist tells me to come back in a week, that is a new referral. Maybe sending people to the ER unnecessarily was his revenge for people coming to him unnecessarily just to get a referral.

I have been using my NYC Doc for years but looking to save some travel time and find someone locally. I went to Newport Medical but wasn't really pleased. It had a clinic-type feel to it and I would prefer a smaller practice, perhaps newer facilities/equipment, etc... Any recs are welcome, thanks.

There is a Portside Medical. The entrance is on Dudley Street.

Portside Medical‎
150 Warren Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302-6443
(201) 309-3000‎

There are some reviews here

I went there last year and saw Dr. Sabia Ali. She was okay, but I didn't feel it was the right relationship. This year, I decided to go to a doctor in New York City. But, maybe you might like one of the doctors there.

There are some really good new doctors at Portside Medical. Dr. Marquis (used to be Fabrikant) and Dr. Kimble are great. They have limited hours, but if you are lucky enough to see one of them you will probably be very happy. They both do women's health as well as all the general practioner stuff, so I can get my pap done there, which saves me an extra doctor's visit. Good luck finding a new Dr.!

Dr. Perez is a very good doctor and has a great bedside manner. Be sure to tell your friend to get to the office by 7am so she can put her name on the waiting list.

Dr Witt ... you can't be serious.

A friend of mine wouldn't allow her to offer care or place a band-aid to his pet dog let alone a human being!

I've been going here since the late 90's.

Balacco & De Marco Family Practice aka Hoboken Family Practice
108 Washington St, Hoboken, NJ 07030
(201) 656-5688 ‎

Dr DeMarco is my doctor. Excellent place for emergency appointments/last minute and other issues. I highly recommend him. My friends have used Dr. Balacco and they liked him too.
