Furniture Repair (vintage)
#1

Any recommendations for a furniture repair person? I have a dresser from the 1940s that needs some structure repair and possibly have it refinished too.

I am looking for a reasonable price and good work :)

Thank you!

Does anyone have guardian dental dmo? If so, could you reccommend a dentist? All the great dentists mentioned here are not covered by my insurance. I hate just picking a random name from an insurance book.

Anyone know what happened on Coles near 6th and 7th? Cop cars blocking the street and I thought I saw police tape by Guillo's (which does not surprise me.)

does anyone know if there are renderings of the park renovations? I would love to see them. I could only find the ballot questions (which were interesting) about the renovations.

I want to say this is so horrendous and my heart and prayers are with the family and this poor man whose life was taken.

Does anyone remember that a few years ago it was really bad downtown? Remember this article in the NY TImes when the Guardian Angel's were patroling too.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/05/nyr ... onspecial2/05njCOVER.html

I attended the neighborhood watch meetings then and perhaps I should start going back. The best thing criminals can know is this is our community and we are united and watching. However, I think how could this act have been stopped... It is very said and frightening. :(

average rent for studios and 1 bedrooms

I am wondering what people on average are paying for a studio or 1 bedroom apt in downtown JC. I keep seeing rents from $1,300 to 1,700.00 for a decent place on a "safe" street. It seems crazy to me having lived here for awhile. I am considering a move but can't belive the $$$.

It also seems like brokers have taken over the rental scene since I last looked for a rental

Re: Car being broken in?

This happened to me a lot 2 summers ago. I had a 1997 Honda Accord. My car was broken into about 3 times and there was nothing in it. I had the club too. Finally they stole the car (got the club off and everything) and it was found near Wayen Street. I was usually parked behind a brand Lexus or BMW....

At that time a lot of Honda's were being broken into. The older Honda's are easier to break into and a sought after car. There is a tab on the outside of the window that makes it easy to seperate it from the car. You can then get some type of device in to unlock....or you can smash the window.

It really stinks. In my opinion as soon as it gets warmer car thefts and break ins are on the rise. I hope you report it to the police (not a great experience for me)....and you should also tell the Neighborhood Watch who really does care.

Thaks, Scooter. I had about 8 tickets on my car when it was stolen last year too. I just called the parking Authority and they gave me anbother number and the tickets were wiped clear. I never had to go to court. I did pay the impound though. Sorry to hear your ordeal too.

B.S. Car impound and bad treatment.

So I am still really mad and it takes a lot to get me really mad! Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Yesterday I got out of my full time job early and was on my way to my holiday part-time job. I went to get in my car on 4th and Jersey and it was gone. United Water was fixing a water main break where my car was parked. There was a really nice cop there directing traffic and she told me it had been towed with 2 other cars and taken to the impound. She knew where I lived and had tried to notify me but I was at work. I was told not to worry that someone from United was going to take me to get my car and that it had been paid for already. The supervisor from United said the same and was very nice and apologetic. There was another woman waiting to get her car too. As luck would have my good friend walks by and drives us to the impound. When I get there a car is speeding out and the driver tells me they are closed except all the gates are open including the one where our cars are located. SO?no one is there and I want my car and get in it and start to drive out. A worker comes out and tells me that I can?t do this. I explain the situation and they say we are closed. I say this is ridiculous my car is paid for, I am in it, the cop and United just called here and I want my car. I start to drive my car out, as does the other victim. Another man comes out and shuts the gate to the street. I call the police and so do they. About 7 cops show up. The woman that I am with is irate and rightfully so. I explain the situation and they do not care. I am told instead that the water break happened last week. I say clearly there is a water main break right now on Jersey/4th. The officer there can vouch for everything and I have a full bag of ID to show this car is mine plus the car keys?. They say no. No cop knows how to work the ?computer system? and we can not take our cars. We are told that we are trespassing and that we could be arrested. The woman that is with me is leaving today for 2 weeks. I am left without a car to get to Thanksgiving with my family (PS I could not even rent a car because it they were all taken for the holiday already) and also will not be able to get to my 2 jobs. They could care less?.and we are told to come back on Saturday when they re-open.
There is so much more rudeness that goes on but this is already long enough. I go back to the cop on the street and she apologies profusely as does the United Water Supervisor.

I am waiting to get there on Saturday and have to pay?I know this is going to happen?like when my car was stolen (it had a police report) and it was impounded and I still had to pay to get it out!

Planning on contacting the mayor?s office?.

I think the EMT did the right thing. I would rather go through the hassel of being evacuated than dead. If some crazy person did have a bomb and blew up the block everyone would be bitching that the EMT should have said something. Unfortunately this is the world we live in and everyone is under suspicion.
