I was leaving Target last week to hear a woman say "Did you just ask me out?!"

I looked up to see a friend talking to one of the guys. Apparently, he asked if he could take her out sometime.

Her responce (albeit kinda bitchy) was "Seriously? You are selling candy outside a Target and you want to take ME out?"

At this point i swooped in and said "Baby, I'll take you out right now." and we walked away arm in arm.

The reaction from his friend was priceless.

Seriously, the fact that this thread is called "Gangbangers & Reese's" is hilarious. Those kids aren't gangbangers, they are just pushy dudes trying to con you out of a few bucks. Just ignore them. I'm sure Target is aware of their presence. True gangbangers are selling drugs or have other people to sell drugs for them. Not a lot of money in the candy pushing business.

I have never ever had an experience like that and more often than not, I don't buy candy from them. A polite, "no thank you" and it ends there.

I've run into these clowns as well- Forget the "lying is wrong" argument for a second (it is). These guys are different from the usual candy slingers. Extremely obnoxious, will follow you towards your car. Obviously trying to be intimidating (or as intimidating as you can be with a box of candy under your arm running your mouth in a big-box retailer parking lot).

They should absolutely not be there. Candy slingers are all over downtown and I've seen dozens of them over the years...these guys are in their own league. Real jackasses.

I notice this a lot. The Asian Indian imigrants seem to tune out everything around them. When danger lurks they ignore all fore warnings but when tragedy strikes they cry wolf. While in Shop Rite I was passing one up with my shopping cart nearly hit her because she wouldn't move when alerted. I believe they (Indians) think the beeps, bells, horns, and hollers are just the crazy American kids, kooks, and nut heads acting stupid. Also why don't they walk on side"walks" ?? Streets are for cars !

Cuz, they don't have sidewalks back home and therefore share the path with cars and cows.....

It?s very annoying. I can?t see why any business owner would allow it, either.

Well that's the basic excuse most of the fools on this blog make for these kids behavior. As if their only choice is something that is slightly illegal or something that is horribly illegal. "It keeps them out of trouble" is the common phrase. It's the same excuse they give for the late night bb games in Hamilton Park or the loud, disrupting parties at Grace Church. Bend over backwards not to upset these "children" after all most of them are minorities and this kind of behavior should be expected. Another case of the closeted racists showing their true colors. Let these young men get real jobs like most people. They can flip burgers or whatever part-time and learn the value of hard work. Right now they are nothing but a bunch of Henry Hills in training.

It may not be "harmless" in the sense that no one's being forced to take out his wallet, but if I bring boxes of cookies to work and pass them off as my nonexistent daughter's girl scout cookies for a little extra pocket change, I'm still doing something wrong here, right?

I know this stuff is relatively minor in the big scheme of things, but we shouldn't forget to teach our kids that lying is still actually a bad thing.

1) they are not kids

2) they are friends with newport security and some target employees, that's why it's allowed to go on

3) it's not about the candy, just dont want a bunch over-dressed hoods coming up to to my face everytime i go in/out a store asking me to buy candy..in slang. It's not legal, if they want to setup business, fine, rent a stand in the mall and sell all the candy they want.

Hassling people as they go in/out any stores here is not fine, and yes if that's what they want to do they should go back to greenville...

As long as it's only Indian families that they strong-arm and verbally abuse. Makes sense.

You don't have to give them money if you don't want to, but there's no reason to go out of your way to prevent them from making a little bit of money in a perfectly harmless way.

I'd rather them selling chocolate, than drugs or worse mugging someone.

Come on people, totally harmless, even if its not going to charity.

Seriously what is so bad about them or anyone selling candy? Is saying "No thanks" really such a big inconvenients to any of you? I have not read one good reason on here why they shouldn't be able to continue selling candy.

I'd just email Target corporate directly and complain about the issue. If they won't allow the Salvation Army, they certainly shouldn't allow these "youths" to harass shoppers.

Yeah, we also met them at Target and they were way overly aggressive - and not in a salesman kind of way -- really for no reason -- oh well, they were honest that the money was for music studio time. I'm not sure why the manager at Target lets it go on.

Interestingly enough, didn't Target prohibit the Salvation Army from setting up their holiday collections in front of any stores a few years back.

Gangbangers or not, for the most part they are harassing people for money and that is something I do not appreciate no matter how nicely they ask. Of all the days they spend trying to swindle money out of kind hearted people, maybe they can go put that energy to better use by finding a job or volunteering their time.

Ferris, Lincoln, Dickinson and Snyder all have later classes for students in the twilight program. Classes don't start until about 3pm or 3:30pm. Many of those students are a little older then an average high school student. Snyder also has its own music studio for the kids that attend there.

What is the big deal that they are selling candy? Either buy it or don't. I support any kid selling candy whether I think it is going to charity or the kids pocket, they could be doing worst things with there time.

I usually say "Sorry, I don't have any cash", which is true for the most part. I dont' carry a lot of cash on me and when I do, I'm not going to spend it on candy.
