How DARE the council approve something that will bring entertainment and FUN to Jersey City. The nerve!

I, for one, am packing my stuff and moving immediately!

Gassing is illegal in NJ as it should be. It's a horrible way to die.

Also, there's no shortage of places that allow dogs to be offleash. If you're not in one of those places, your dog should be restrained appropriately. It's common courtesy.

While I love to see new businesses and certainly hope they do well, I'm not hopeful that an art-centric business will survive that far off the beaten path. For some reason, I don't think that Ram's and Binny's are going to help draw that kind of clientele.

But I hope I'm wrong!

Thanks for making this post blue, underlined, bold, and huge, otherwise I wouldn't have realized how important an issue this is.

It is (although I'm a little embarassed to admit that the first "person" I recognized in the video was the black and white pit bull). The victim has already reached out to her. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly.

I am getting tired of trying to walk my dog around the shards of glass everywhere-- on Grove, Mercer, Wayne etc. The broken glass surrounds every tree and also spills out onto the sidewalks. My dog has stepped on glass before and hurt her tiny paws. What do people do, smash bottles everywhere? I just don't understand and it seems to be getting worse-- I don't recall it being this bad last summer. Does anyone know who is responsible for cleaning sidewalks-- is it the building owners or the city?

I want to say it's right across from LITM...definitely around there. I don't think most people noticed because it just went from one crap store to another.

id rather see people opening up a nice clothing store or boutique themselves with similar styles on newark ave but yes an h&m would be better than strawberry or rainbow. but that's never going to happen cause people are obviously shopping at those stores keeping them in business. anyway, the masterminds behind jersey city would rather see a row of abandoned stores.

I'll agree with you here. I spend a considerable amount of time in Asheville, NC for my job and it boggles my mind how their downtown is sooo tiny but offers so much more in the way of shops, restaurants, and entertainment than JC does. Why can't Jersey City have successful independent businesses the way other places do?

I understand what you're trying to say here about chain stores and neighborhoods, but really? The most recent clothing store to open on Newark Ave. was a STRAWBERRY. Seriously, a Strawberry...I didn't even know those existed anymore.

Anything that could potentially set up shop on Newark Ave. that doesn't cater to the dollar store demographic should be welcomed.

Could I please have an explanation as to why a license for an intact dog is more expensive than for a spayed/neutered dog?

This is pretty much always the case for dog licenses. The reduced fee provides an incentive for dog owners to have their pets spayed/neutered.

One could also argue that the fact that intact dogs are more likely to be picked up running at large and are responsible for the majority of dog bite injuries might be reasons. Animal control's time (and tax payer dollars) are largely spent addressing complaints that involve intact animals so perhaps it makes sense that their owners pay a higher rate (but that's just a thought).

While I appreciate your outrage and agree there should be consequences, I don't know that jail is appropriate. She does have a special needs son that relies heavily on her.

It's definitely sad all around. I feel bad for the dogs.

The walk is definitely do-able (I lived on Belmont, one block over from Kensington) and as stated, there are a lot of other people doing that walk during normal commuting hours. The bus (#10) is also pretty reliable in my experience. Only a few times did it not come as scheduled.

Hoboken Animal Hospital is, hands down, the most expensive veterinary practice in the area, not to mention they will push every possible thing they can to make money, regardless of the benefit (or harm) to the animal.

No bueno.

Can someone explain why the city has put up new lights on Columbus Ave as well as new Crosswalk Signals - yet the crosswalk signals only work if you press the button before the light changes?

I walk north on Varick daily and cross Columbus. With this new set up, the crosswalk signal does not work if you get to the intersection after the light has changed. Thus you have no way of knowing whether you can safely cross Columbus or not. It's ridiculous, NYC has crosswalks that actually add value 100% of the time. These new ones only help you if you are there before the light changes AND push the button.

Am I missing something here?

YES! I also walk this way everyday and it's a huge annoyance. You never know if you'll have time to make it across or if you'll suddenly have to do a mad dash before the light changes.

I know that someone had an issue about a year and a half ago with the dogs in the park attacking feral cats that belong to a colony there, but I"ve never heard of anyone having trouble with them otherwise.
