Looks like this place (which was now just called Lotus) is closed with brown paper on the windows and a sign that says ?closed for maintenance?. Anyone know what?s going on? Personally the 2x I ate there I didn?t think it was that good. Wondering if ?closed for maintenance? means permanently closed and we?ll be getting something else in that space.

Well if it does not suit your fancy, there are _many_ options somewhat close by on Newark Ave, JSQ area.

I heard a rumor that the Lotus (no longer Blue Lotus) Indian restaurant in Vladimir's space on Erie at Eighth Street is up for sale again, though I can't find it mentioned anywhere.

The food in the latest incarnation was/is decent, didn't seem to change much when switching from Blue Lotus to Lotus.

Blue Lotus was some of the WORST Indian food I have ever had. Ordered twice from there, first time a Chicken Tikka Massala and the second time a Chicken Bhuna. On both occasions the meal was just lumps of chicken in a watery mildly spiced sauce - there weren't even onions or tomatoes in there. They managed to burn the naan the second time, but they still included it in the order and sent it to the customer rather than baking up (read: microwaving) a fresh one. There was no third time.

No tears when an appalling restaurant that provides its customers with a terrible service withers a dies a deserved death. Nothing wrong with that location - just a shitty product.

I just wonder how many of you that love it didn't notice that they're G'ing you on your bill with apparently repeated "mistakes" that have to be programmed that way to happen in the first place.

Maybe I'm too big a stickler on getting what I paid for and not having hidden charges, but if you're trying to nickle and dime me on one thing, to me it also stands to reason that they're trying to get over on me some other way.

Beats me folks, some of you also think Orale is the height of cuisine in the area. I think that place isn't just bad for the money, but not good regardless of price point. Same with Left Bank Burger.

(that said, the food here is much better than both of those other places, I simply can't abide by scummy business practices)

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner there. I've been there twice in the last two weeks, and I think the pricing is well suited to the portions, the atmosphere and the service. The first time I went, I had the goat curry, which was $18 and the last time, I had chicken tikki masala which ran about $14. Both very reasonable! Someone in this thread commented that for cheaper fare, Journal Square is your destination. I completely agree, or try one of the places on Grove St, where it's more fast food.

I really enjoyed the garlic naan too! So happy that Blue Lotus has arrived. I used to order from Amiya and for some wacky reason - and this was a couple of years ago - they did not serve naan on weekends/Sundays for delivery. I thought that was odd! I started going to Spirit of Laxmi which was pretty awesome too.

I ordered from them and their food is ex-cel-lent and well balanced - something we never had with the Embankment. I fully agree with Chama, give 'em a try folks!

I never have a budget when I eat out, and so I judge the dinner on its merits. The night I was there the waiters were courteous , and, I tip on that . Their work has nothing to do with the food. And, I was satisfied with the food anyway.

I will echo the sentiments. Great food, though not sure it beats Amiya. Prices are high, though again, so are Amiya's.

Menu is on their website here: https://online.bluelotusnj.com/JerseyC ... t.php?m=product_list&c=20

I've been a few times now. The food is very good, I think you get a lot of food so the price is justified.

I have also experienced the issue with being overcharged. In my case, the bill was correct but my CC was overcharged. I noticed this and they had to reverse the charge on the card and re-bill. Glad I caught it before I signed.

I don't think it was malicious but definitely something to keep your eye open to.

I would encourage people who enjoy Indian food to go and try this place out. We had dinner at Blue Lotus couple of weeks ago and really liked their food, portion sizes and courteous service. If budget is your main concern you are better off going to Little India in Journal Square, but quite frankly we did not find this place "overpriced". It is just so conveniently located near home! I think this place is a great addition to the neighborhood.

2 cent review.

Polite staff, decent sized portion of overpriced food, and it was certainly tasty, but be careful of their register.

My meal was $20 (had a twenty buck groupon), and they said the total with tax was $21.98. I asked if I'd gotten the priced on the food wrong ($17 for the lamb korma, $3 for the onion naan), but those were the prices.

They seemed a bit confused at how their computer came up with 10% sales tax and said to just pay the proper $1.40 amount, but there's really no way a computer 'accidentally' rings you up at 9.99% tax. That has to be programmed that way.

So yea, between the prices and poor arithmetic, I'll probably skip this place again.

Just took a look at the menu. I have to say I'm not excited. I have high hopes to get a restaurant in that location considering its close proximity to me. After looking at the menu with its high prices and nothing outside of the normal Indian standard fare I'm afraid I'm going to still be looking. I will give it a shot maybe I'll be proven wrong.

Grand Opening today? Walked by 131 Erie (Ginfi, Parkside Bistro location) earlier today and grabbed a menu from Blue Lotus, pretty extensive Menu. I spy dosas! And other southern Indian dishes along the usual tikkas and tandooris.
