Re: Hall/Space Rental

Thanks for the suggestions. I had thought about White Eagle Hall previously, but thought the space may be too big. I reached out just to see anyways.

Also reached out to Cathedral Hall and Brunswick Center. I'll reply back with what they are able to accommodate for future reference. Also going to continue to look for other spaces, so if I find any I will post those as well.

Hall/Space Rental

Hey all,

So I just starting to search for a hall rental for a surprise birthday party. This would be for about 60-100 people and would be held on a Saturday in January. Just looking for something with tables where I can hang decorations and everyone can mingle. I'm looking for places in downtown where I could rent out space to accommodate this many people.

Ideally I would love to find something where we can bring in our own food and booze, but understand that may be a bit of a stretch. I looked into Amelia's, but I think the space may be too small. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Landlord Charge for AC Unit Installation

Thanks for the input all. I honestly don't mind paying a fee (still unsure of what the is) to have it installed. It was more the way the landlord went about explaining how we have to pay and how he came off. That coupled with the fact there is no question of our other unit going in and the new windows being installed it raised some flags for me.

Landlord Charge for AC Unit Installation
#4

Hey all,

So here is the scenario:

I live in a 8 unit apartment building and our landlord just replaced all of the windows in the living areas. The old windows were terrible, rotted wood, drafty and should likely should have been replaced long ago. Due to that fact we have used a portable AC unit (large floor standing unit) as a window unit would have ripped the window framing out.

As we just got the windows replaced I was excited to finally be able to get a window unit and get rid of my portable unit (save space and better efficiency). Anyway, the landlord is understandably very concerned about his new windows and does not want them messed up. I was told that we can not use window units and if we want to he must have out super install them and we must pay him a fee to do so. I can quite easily install my own window unit, he doesn't own it.

Is he allowed to do this? I should also note we have a window unit in our bedroom where the windows are newer, we put it in and out each season with no question from the land lord. It seems crazy that solely because he is concerned about the condition of his windows he would charge us to do something we can easily do ourselves. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Downtown Doctor for Checkup

So I need to visit a doctor for a checkup, haven't been in far too long and need to get immunizations from when I was a child (which I have documentation) confirmed for an application.

Any recommendations on a doctor downtown that does checkups and would either take weekend appointments or something in the evening around 5:00 PM?

Thanks.

Is there a list anywhere of everything that is happening in JC for Halloween? I know on Friday there is Journal Scare 7p-11p and Porta s having a party. I think Saturday Zeppelin Hall has something going on and the Iron Monkey.

Anyone know of other happenings?

Re: Downtown JC car break-ins (5th Street)

This happened to me when I was living on Jersey and 5th a few years ago. I got in my car and it stunk like cigarettes (I don't smoke), then I noticed my GPS was gone and all of the change I keep in my car. I could have sworn it was locked, but had no idea how they go in as no windows were broke.

A few weeks back I saw a suspicious looking guy (wraggly clothes, something just looked off) standing out side of my apartment, around 1st and Erie, pressed up against the chain link fence starring at that new building that was going up. I was waiting for my girlfriend just standing outside and I see this guy going around car to car, he had a bag and was pulling out what looked to be like remote car keys or something. It seemed like he was using them to try and unlock cars as he went around to a few. I called the cops and gave them a full description but I had to leave at that point so I'm not sure what came to be of it.

Ever since then I had wondered maybe someone used some kind of remote to get into my car, no holes under the locks or anything was found.

Is there a link anywhere online for this? Didn't know anything was reopening there already.

Anyone have any idea what is going on with this place? It's been closed the past few days. I saw two guys walking out of it earlier this week locking up the gate but it was totally closed up. Looks like there is some random stuff collecting up just inside of the metal gate.
