Re: Osborne endorses Symes in Downtown council race | Campaign notes

Indeed, her tenure working as chief counsul for a major Jersey City real-estate developer seems to have been so brief that she forgot it herself! It is left off of her experience listed in her campaign material and website

JP,

You don't feel that Rebecca Symes being chief council for Dixon Leasing, a major property investor and developer in Jersey City, represents a conflict of interest in running for councilperson?

Do you feel that her severing her formal relationship with Dixon Leasing resolves any conflict of interest that may have existed?

And now this Rebecca Symes Dixon Leasing lady is running for Ward E councilperson!

How does corrupt stuff like this continue to happen in Jersey City?

What's the best place to buy jerrycans? Don't want to be caught without gas like those people in Florida.

Fuel vital not only for evacuation by motor-vehicle, but also to run generators at home as power-cuts will be widespread.

Someone was paid to erect barriers keeping folks out of Liberty State Park, and state park police remain on duty, preventing anyone sneaking past the barriers.

How does closing Liberty State Park save the state any money?

Surely if the objective was to shut down state operations and save money, leaving the park open and unattended should be the result.

I don't think this is correct, aren't you responsible for the bike from the time you check it out until it is checked back into the dock? If it is stolen or damaged I think you are on the hook for $1,200.

Check the terms and conditions.

> $10,000 after reval, that's the likely property tax rate for a $500k unit. That will definitely suck.

The 2% rate is unsubstantiated speculation.

Based on how hot (scarily hot) the market is all over Jersey City right now, 2% is not what the rate is going to be. These over-taxed homes in Greenville being discussed, they are on the market now for $300,000! There aren't $100,000 homes in Jersey City anymore. Brownstones in Bergen Hill are $700,000, even remote, less-nice parts of the Heights are $400,000+

I think that the overall tax base is higher than many people realise, and therefore tax rate will be lower than 2%.

I don't think you can clip a high-end hardened steel D-lock like the Kryptonite in Brewster's picture with bolt-cutters, not with 3' ones, perhaps with 6' cutters you could (6' bolt-cutters will snip most chains too!)

On You-Tube there are videos of cropping low-end Kryptonite locks, and even then, watch the struggle they usually have.

I think Brewster's photo has been cut with an angle-grinder or hacksaw, look how smooth the cut is, when something is cropped it will have the depression indents where the jaws bit, and be more uneven.

If someone can find evidence of a hardened D-lock being cropped I'll stand corrected, but I have not seen or heard anything first hand.

Maybe? What planet are you on? This wanker should go down for a long time. With his track record this grevious assault should be treated no differently than had he committed it with his own hands.

Henderson Lumber no good?

Not that I expect them to stay open much longer, they are surely in for a much greater windfall then Pallisades when they sell up to build some disproportionate condo-monstrosity.

I checked and it is Rebecca Symes herself, general counsel for Dixon Properties, who is also president of the Harsimus Cove Neighborhood Association.

I am with you Wishful, this is a recent phenomena over past 5-6 years.

Yes, news media have always hyped storms, but this idea of preemptively and often unnecessarily closing things down has taken off only recently.

Why shutdown things before you know it is necessary? Why not wait and see what conditions actually turn out like?

Activist Crossing Guards.
#28
Home away from home
Home away from home

Does anyone know the bounds of responsibilities and duties of the crossing guards?

All over downtown I encounter "activist" crossing guards, who go beyond helping people across the road and take on the task of directing all traffic through 'their' junction, often doing a poor job of it and causing more confusion and danger than they resolve.

Are they authorised to do this? Or are they supposed to stick to stopping traffic to let people cross, and then getting out of the way again afterwards?

Chris at CKP construction, 201-332-6699.

He fabricated a replacement cornice for me from scratch to match historic photos at 249 Second Street, go-past and have a look, it's lovely. CKP seem to be the masters of this kind of work in Jersey City.

He is known and trusted by the historical preservation officer/department, which makes getting historical approval far smoother if you are in one of the historic districts.

Negative parts are: 1. difficult getting in his schedule, things can drag on waiting for him to actually begin work, 2. It's not cheap!
